Hi my name is Emi. I'm born in raise in small town just outside Quebec City, this is where my lovely accent come from. My #vanlife story starts in September 2018. After a long-term relationship that I was trying for more than a year to rebuild, I decided it was time to end this toxic relationship once for all. This is where I decided to move away from this man that I was still in love with. I put all my belongings inside my SUV (GMC Jimmy) and moved six hours from where I was living. I didn’t know where I would sleep, didn’t know where I would work but I knew I needed to make a drastic move. At that time, I told myself I will only sleep in my car for a month while looking for a place to rent. What I didn’t know is that one month became another month and another month. In the end, I end up sleeping in my car for a full year. Even if people will consider this the lowers time of my life, this experience was the best thing I couldn’t have done with my life. I took that year to focus on myself, decide what I wanted, and most importantly what I didn’t want. That year made me also realize that for so long, I was chasing the wrong dreams. I was chasing what society wanted me to be: to have a big house, a steady job, kids, get married… None of those dreams was making me happy. In September 2019, while I was actively looking for a van, I received a phone call that someone had found my cat (Kelly). After, trying for hours with no success to communicate with my ex-boyfriend (who was taking care of her), I decided to drive the six hours to go pick her up. Without going into too much detail, it turns out he wasn’t able to take care of her anymore. So I brought her in a cat kennel for a couple of days until I found a van we both could live in. I put all the savings that I had accumulated while living in my car and bought my van (a 2011 Ford Econoline that I end up adding a hightop) In the beginning, It wasn’t so glamour. My cat and I were sleeping on a mattress on the floor of the van. We both had to adjust. Now, my cat loves this lifestyle as much as I do; she looks at the window while I’m driving and she loves exploring new places. Since then, my cat Kelly and I are have been living full-time in my self convert van.
The greatest stumbling block to vanlife I have is my lack of confidence in my ability to convert my van to a living space. Watching you take on projects like this makes it seem possible. Thank you, Emi, for being such a great role model. 🥰🥰🥰

I will have one on the side door with some inside storage. That will be for a project at the shop next winter.

yes, sometimes nice to have a little outdoor space with a bit of privacy to work on and also hang a foldable shower curtain to keep van dry, and give you more privacy with your portable shower.

You are woman, you can do anything you put your mind to. Great job! My favorite zucchini recipe is just melt butter, add sliced onions, chopped tomatoes, cubed zucchini,salt and pepper . Cook on medium until zucchini is done and add Parmesan cheese in your bowl.

I found a new wildflower today, called scrambled eggs (Corydalis aurea). Toxic, don't eat it. But pretty and hummingbirds and butterflies love it. Thank you, birdies!

I am living in Mara Lake. Bc not super far from Kamloops. With my pets😂 2 dogs and 2 cats. I live full time in my 77 van. I love ur videos. Good job on the repairs. I need to make templates to do a few things on my doors its original.... kinda 😂 the engines running great had it all serviced last month. ❤

Emi-Have tiy looked into getting Pack Vacuum Storage Bags, Space Saver Bags? I think it would help a lot when it comes to saving space in your van.
They certainly do. The problem there is having the right type of vacuum to get the air out.😂
@@k8barkley They do sell boxes with a hand held vacu tube in it. You can remember the air by rolling it up. Check he box for instructions.

For testing that corner for a water leak, could you take it to a car wash and spray that corner?

Buy some vacuum bags to put your winter stuff. They work wonderful, suck air out and it’s really small and keeps everything clean.
You could put one of your stickers over that one little spot, if you want to.🙌

Living in Northern California, near San Francisco, is pretty mild year round. It's pretty easy to get by without insulation in the winter. But, it's almost unbearably in the van in the summertime. I couldn't live without reflective, since I don't have A/C or even any vents added to my van. If I can manage to park in the shade, it's easy to tolerate even "hot" days of 80°-90° temps for a few hours in the afternoon. My problem is that I used construction grade tape, and the adhesive has degraded over time. It's falling down in places, so I'm using magnets to hold up the old tape! 😆👀Btw, I LOVE 😍your new window shades with the magnets, AND your door screen! Great design ideas! Thanks for sharing.

I think it looks great.if my van weren't already breaking down I'd def redo some things..makes it feel new n different..good for you..enjoy watching😊I ripped off my headliner cuz it didn't stick anymore..couldn't take apart panels n stuff to pull the whole thing out by myself so I went to thrift store n for $3.99 I got a beautiful sheet to glue on..have had it for about 6 weeks but need a second person to hold one end while I do the other..also need the tool attachment to remove sunvisors..I'm in a 2 bed minivan for when my son stays..I'm also fairly stationary surrounded by no overnight parking ordinances which keeps me on my toes, lol..I'm respectful n quiet no drugs or alcohol inside but Ive been here 37 years..only last few in my van..I stay bc I trust the area and know many ppl..I switch up also..oh..n reflection is a pain..stretched in bed the other morning n tapped back window n that crap was hot as heck so it's def not helping much..

It appears the old buildings you were near Kamloops was previously a tuberculosis sanitarium and most recently a psychiatric institution. The homes around the big buildings housed the staff.
