    This is the best review I’ve seen of this lens. You focused on what gives this lens character and how artists can use it to elevate their craft. I’m also not super technical all the sharpness tests don’t give me much to work with. Thank you for this review!!

      I appreciate it! I’m trying to make these lens reviews more artistic. Those sharpness do zero for me too haha. Like we get it.. lenses are sharp now.. now show us if there’s anything special to it. Really wish I was able to do a fashion shoot with it but didn’t have the lens for long

    The one thing I have learned from you is that in the end the gear is secondary to the talent you have and the vision and the location and subject matter or story. These days most apc or full frame cameras can do the job, unless you are in Hollywood on a huge production.

    Just ordered one and looking forward to giving it a test run. My personal goal of it is to simply replace my need for my Sigma 35mm and 50mm. They are good for what they are but I so prefer the flexibility of zoom lenses.

    Watching multiple TH-cam videos and yours being the final one on this lens, I pulled the trigger and pre ordered it. Being someone who primarily uses primes 1.2 and 1.4, I see this being a very valuable tool in fast pace situations such as weddings and story telling portraits. Also the rendering and colors of the images is well worth noting! Reminds me of my old cherished 24 1.4 gm on the wide end

      Congrats man!! And yeah dude I totally get what you’re saying. That’s something I’ve been kinda noticing is with all these fast zooms coming out their pushing the boundaries and it results in some very slight “classic” character when wide open. Kinda crazy we call EF lenses classic now 😂😂😂

      They do an Af adapter for the contax lens which I might try. Or you can rehouse it to M mount and then use the better M mount autofocus adapter. Quite fancy it but when this 28-70 will do everything so well might just save the character for my film shots.

And point of views are all about what we are doing in our lives ( we don't know what we don't know or/and experienced). So something that will happen always, is how you start to see things when you learn how optics really work in something like a Panavision Primo or a Angenieux parfocal zoom. Because those lenses push boundaries from conventional clinically corrected elements, to explore a deeper language. The same is when one hear for the first time a Loaded horn Hi End sound system. After that, there is no turning back. And maybe people need to remember this, the importance of a tangible cinematic experience, just like Nolan it's telling all this years. I can expand on the technicalities, but it's been proven that TH-cam can't handle it... it sounds boring. So it's nice you can make it fun.

    It's a $2800 lens, and it ain't close to perfect. People are going to need to REALLY do the math if this lens is worth the squeeze. It's an interest thing that makes a lot more sense used 12 months from today.

    • @cammackey

      @scotttuckerphotography 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cammackey 0:48 "sony made it insanely perfect" ... flares hard and green, loses sharpness near MFD, kind of gritty bokeh rings...no, it's not perfect, or close to it, but it's priced like other brand lenses that have MUCH better optical performance.
      not saying it's a bad lens, and I'm actually glad to see Sony doing something like this, but to pay $2800 for these perceived "flaws" deserves more than two seconds of absorbing marketing hype. the very essence of a "character" lens is to be imperfect in appealing ways. if the specific oddities about this lens are appealing to someone, maybe it's worth the money. doesn't seem to be a refined wedding-caliber lens like the Canon version IMO based on what all of the influencers have released in the last 24 hours.

    • @cammackey
      @cammackey  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      But again, who said that’s what makes a lens “perfect”? Were we told to think that’s what perfect is? How would you describe perfect? My verbiage of “perfect” was to poke at that fact. That people tend to think a perfect lens means it has zero issues.. Just take sharp.. to me, that’s not perfect. Perfection to me is a balance of sharp and soft. I love an astigmatism. Bokeh that quickly falls off with a swirly. That’s perfect to me. So, what do you think perfect is?
      To me.. this lens is perfection for the heard.

      Same. To be fair I was shooting directly into the sun which in professional use we don’t do that obviously haha. Maybe a little for video, but of course it’s for a moment and not a still.

    • @TJIzzy
      @TJIzzy 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @cammackey I probably would just key it out in resolve, push more blue & desaturate. Maybe you can test this on the FX3, but I keep seeing videos of this new lens having weird unnatural sudden jerky jumps. I didn’t have that on my FX3 + 24-70, so I wonder if Sony needs a firmware update for its ibis with this lens? CVP & Irene Rudnyks video section exhibited this, kinda interesting. Should be a sick lens though!

    This lens is good but don’t get it if you have the 24-70 f2.8 like that’s literally fine

      Oh 1000% agree. I don’t think anyone needs to “upgrade” unless they want a faster option.

    Great video, but first time I don't share your opinion. Too big, too pricey for a 2.0 instead of 2.8. Character? Trace amounts. For this kind of money I'll rather get two excellent lenses with actual character.

    • @cammackey
      @cammackey  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I mean I did say it had a HINT of character haha. It’s no Helios. The size I don’t find too big at all. Pricey.. sure but compared to the competition it’s similar. I can say, I think anyone who’s about to buy a 24-70 F2.8.. they should maybe save up a little more to jsut get this. Cause this will replace the need for a lot of clinical primes

    I've seen several reviews and the flare is pretty bad. It's not a pleasant flare. I guess it's unavoidable with glass design that complex.

      @cammackey  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The flare is kind of a bummer but I mean I’m shooting directly into the sun, it’s not like it’s a huge deal if it’s only there when you’re shooting into the sun.

    I might argue that the 50mm f/1.2 also have character not because that is extreme sharp edge to edge, but there is something with it that separate it from the other lenses. The contrast, colors are very pleasing when shooting weddings

      @@cammackey sharp wide open with little improvement in sharpness in the corners stopped down to f/2.0. Center is always sharp and with good contrast. The feel is kinda Zeiss Planarish . The 50 f/1.4 is more clinical. Worth a try for movie and stills if it happends to fall into your hands :)

    The clinical argument for Sony lenses is nonsense, when you shoot raw it doesn't matter, not to mention that when u just slap on a black mist filter you get all the character you can have

    • @g33k3301
      @g33k3301 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That‘s wrong, it‘s about the lens rendering, such as the bokeh (smooth, busy, harsh), CAs, field curvature, … many factors play a role.
