Two Blocks from the Edge came out and I was in high school at the time. Listened to the whole CD 4 times start to finish on a class trip. Will never forget how blown away I was by this group.
I think it was around 1959 that a jazz magazine had a feature in which they asked prominent musicians to identify other musicians by having them listen to recordings. Some musicians did very well at this. Later, when I was playing gigs, I began to recognize the way musicians phrased tunes, attacked notes, etc. Our brains do a remarkable job identifying sounds, voices, rhythms. Playing music well is largely about listening.
In my opinion, the most beautiful solo of Michael Brecker is not the longest nor the most virtuoso he has played, but on the contrary the shortest of his career: it is the one he plays in "Maxine" with Donald Fagen in the brilliant album "The Nighfly". His solo lasts only 33 seconds but that's enough for him to say it all, he doesn't need to add more !

And it still sounds good!
Thanks!

Sublime a meditation, beautiful, thanks!
Our pleasure!
Brecker has his own unique sound, distinctive voice!
Like all great musicians
@@JazzVideoGuy how many hours of Brecker videos have you gone through? How did you decide on this one?
Louis Gerrits, who moderates the Michael Brecker group on Facebook, selected this video from his colleciton.
Would you share with us, please, more (or the whole) of this incredible live concert? Thank you very much!
I wish I had the whole thing, but I don't.
