    Hi guys😃, WOW Dave, very impressive. I missed the last sale but I have alarms set for this one. 😁 Shouldn't you be wearing one one those leather thumb glove? I was nerve wracked watching you carve towards your thumb with that extremely sharp knife 😲😲 Irene and Pistol🤗🤗🤗 Bravo on your story book. I've shown my granddaughter your videos before and told her about the book, then showed her you and Pistol signing a book and she said "maybe you'll get that one?". The book arrives and I wait for her next visit to open the package. When she opens the cover to see the signature she squeals "you got it, you got". 🤣. I couldnt tell her it was one of many.....she the proceeded to read the story aloud. You get 5 stars for sure. We look forward to reading future adventurous stories of Pistol, The Brave Green Bean Queen. Times a ticin', wish me luck lol. Have a nice day and Carey on😃

      Oh what a wonderful story about your granddaughter! I love that you guys love it! Many more adventures to come! Dave used to scare me if I watched him carve too closely but I know now he’s got some good techniques down and knows more than I do. 🤣 So glad you were able to get in and get something. Your collection is growing! 💕🥳

    I've always considered myself pretty good with an axe but you are seriously good! Tell me , do the spoons ever split whilst drying?

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks. Occasionally they do. Can’t leave them too thick or thin. Also some wood splits more than others. Sometimes putting them in a paper bag with the shavings will help dry slow which really helps.

  • @kevnrob1

    Beautiful work, Dave. How do you source your wood? Firewood, buy or collect fallen stuff?

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I carve green wood which makes it a big challenge. I’m always looking for downed trees. I have also been blessed with friends around the country who have land and wood to give me. And I have a big freezer in the van to store pieces to keep them green when I get some;)

  • @HaveFunWillTravel
    @HaveFunWillTravel 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Dave steady as you are, have you ever had a oops cut?

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I first started I cut myself quite a bit. Nothing major requiring stitches but I did superglue quite a few shut;) Then as you learn proper technique and don’t take shortcuts it happens rarely. Knock on a wooden spoon I haven’t cut myself in a long time😉😁

  • @tldiefend1
    @tldiefend1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    plan on grabbing one. wow what a process. How many hours did the spoon take to finish? I'm sure you have covered in a previous video but what kind of axe and knife do you use?

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. I’ve never really timed it. I’m always working on different spoons at different parts of the process. A couple hours I guess. That doesn’t include finding the wood, sharpening tools, etc. I currently use a carving axe handforged in the Ukraine. I have some of the tools I use on the products page of our website, careyonvagabond.com.

    Amazing work.
    Can i ask you, what is that black thing witch you use before oil? Thanks

    • @CareyOnVagabond
      @CareyOnVagabond  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. It’s a burnishing tool. Anything hard and smooth will work. When you rub the wood with it it closes the grain and polishes it. Makes for a very smooth finish without sanding.
