Those extra rails in the middle are called guard rails. Most train bridges of that type have them. They help to keep train from completely derailing where it won't hit the bridge God forbid it does derail.
The center rails across the trestle is to prevent derailed cars from getting out of the railbed completely so they do not tumble or possibly fall off the trestle
Wow! This is now one of my favorite videos on youtube. I bet it was something to see in its heyday! Not much spookier than an abandoned railroad trestle!
The cost of rehabbing the trussel and tunnel on that line would be more money than the power plant is worth not to mention the rest of the rail line rehab.
In todays money I would say your probably right however, if they ever reopened the power plant it would not be powered by Coal it would probably be converted to Natural Gas and you would not need the rail line for that. Thanks for watching.
I’ve actually been across this bridge and explored some of the buildings on the other side. That bridge was so scary to cross. There is another amazing place right by there in Templeton with a bunch of abandoned cars and boats!
They won’t keep anything from derailing. They are meant to keep a derailed car from wandering away from the tracks and striking the bridge structure itself.
@@douglasskaalrud6865 Absolutely correct, about any derailed train car somewhat centered on the bridge's deck so that the derailed train doesn't strike the bridge's truss structure itself, that which is responsible for carrying the train across the river there.
Thanks for joining us on this adventure. Yes, I did not feel that good about walking out on this trestle at all, kind of felt like walking on thin ice ha ha.

This is a “Through Truss” type bridge

Yes, derailing would be especially bad when going over the river ha ha. Thanks for the info and thanks for watching.
Still in better shape then some of the Penn Dot bridges we drive across daily !!
Ha Ha so True, so True. Thanks for Watching.

The rails in the center of the bridge are to help keep the train from falling off in a derailment.
Ok ,that makes sense now that you say that. Thanks so much for the info.👍

@@DoortotheAbandoned You're welcome.
Who was the rail road company that supplied the coal for the coal burning plant?
The Pittsburgh and Shawmut Rail Road Co.
Keep the train from derailing off the bridge
👍
if train would derail the center rail would stop the car from rolling over an coursing mess an dammed to the trestle
Thanks for the info, that would be very important when crossing the river on a Trestle. Thanks for watching.
