  • Awesome First demo job with my CAT 305 mini excavator with a thumb on it. Also had my CAT 289 skid steer on site to basically pry up this driveway and sidewalk, load and haul all the cement and lightly grade the driveway itself. Was a fun job and definitely took longer than expected. It ended up taking a day and a half and I did it for one day but great learning experience because my excavator is almost brand new and looking forward to more jobs like this! If you ever have any questions about the machines, let me know I would love to help anybody out so fire away!

Wish you good fortune on your business, if you can take a bit of criticism positively, I can see you have few hours on the excavator or perhaps not that much experienced with removing concrete with thumb, there were many times where you broke such a small piece of concrete when you could have picked up a much bigger piece to go faster. Good luck, get more hours behind the wheel, you will get better

If you have a quick coupler, put your bucket on backwards to make quick work of the peices up close to the house. You might already know that trick already but if not it is really helpful.

I appreciate that! Yea I’ve never tried that but it would certainly help and be super fast! We were wondering how we were going to get those close areas and I decided to bring out my skid steer (Cat289) with its grapples we ended up using but I’m definitely open to any tips or suggestions! I appreciate it friend 😊🤙🏻

😃yah.. true that.. I thought of that too but kinda decided not to say nothing .. but then saw your comment....😉 good job anyways! I like to see people learn! It really takes time to get good at it, but he's going that way! I myself got in to excavating same way a 1.5 years ago!! Just decided to start it, went to the dealer, bought my first machine (3.5ton),
A month later another (1.7ton for really tight spaces), another (10 ton) in 3 more months) and then another (6 tons) machine. I love excavating! Don't be afraid of work and it's never been a shame to learn! I wish you all the best!

Usually we would be in the $3000-$3500 on something like this. I think I did it for $2500 it was for a contractor friend that sends a lot of work our way

Ang swing them in back and then load them instead of going back and forth

This is the kind of stuff I want to do with the mini ex business that I want to start. Did you consider using a breaker to make smaller pieces of concrete? Any difficulty for the 305 picking up large chunks?

So yea I’ve recently looked into getting a hydraulic breaker for similar jobs but I have to say the Cat 305 and my skid steer can get jobs like this done no problem at all. The leverage that the excavator has with its thumb while the blade of the machine is pushed down on a easily cracks pieces into pieces east to move. I’ll be honest the machine really didn’t struggle at all I think this machine is like the perfect size for jobs like this and for the most part easily loaded the trailer. Great power, great reach and mobility. I would highly recommend! Let me know if you have any other questions and follow my page because I’m always talking business and ways to get started 😊 If I can ever help, let me know 🙏🏻
