As a newlywed & young mother, we always had classical music playing in our home. As we added children 4, 5, 6 & 7-I needed more quiet and stopped playing the music. Now, I want to play it again even with the children having access to their own Your Story Hour downloads and other music. Thank you for the reminder of how rich these pieces are and the basis of understanding what good music truly is.
I think you did really well with the Swedish words! I really enjoyed that you chose to highlight Carl and Karin Larsson, I grew up with Carls art, we had a couple of art prints framed on the wall and for several years our monthly wall calender had Carl Larsson paintings. It’s the first art I can remember actually studying and enjoying.
I realize I’m 7 months late to the discussion, but just wanted to comment with my takeaway. It was striking to me to notice how many things in the Larson’s’ life are back “in fashion“ again! (Or perhaps were timeless enough that they never went “out” of fashion?) The white chairs in their dining area. The greenish bead board on the wall under a shelf. The traditional Swedish decorating look that’s still very much woven throughout IKEA. Even Karin’s very full eyebrows! Haha! I loved it all. I’ve been very much inspired by these chic assignments, to realize that there are classic artists out there I love and would actually enjoy decorating my home with - something I’d never really considered before. Exploring the composers has breathed new life into my every day routines as well. Thank you!! ❤️
As a Swede I feel very proud hearing you talk about Carl and Karin Larsson. He really captured the Swedish home so well. Swedish is a really hard language to pronounce, you did a great job saying Karins name the second time :) Thanks for the video! 🇸🇪💙
I love Carl Larsson's paintings so much. I love looking at his incredible and beautiful interiors -- and all the wonderful detail and vibrant colors. I didn't know that his wife was also an artist! Also, that they had 8 children! Amazing. I also love Elgar's music. Thank you as ever and always, for the inspiration.
I was unfamiliar with Carl & Karin Larsson before the Chic Assigment and while I have enjoyed so many other artists you've shared in the Chc Assignment, they are my favorite for so many reasons. Thank you for all the hard work you put into these assignments. I enjoy them so very much!
I found that I save at least $20 a week when I meal plan. A tip for other ladies with chronic illness/pain, like me, is to plan an easy meal to be on hand for that unexpected flare-up day. Thanks, again, Jennifer. I really look forward to your upload days! ❤
It amazes me how Karin Larsen had 8 children and still had the time to be so actively creative, especially in those days where you did not have and conveniences that we have today such as pampers and formula to say the least.
Karin Larson Bergöö was an amazing woman, but she had help, she hired other women to help with washing and cleaning. I hope that the next time I get to visit the area, Dalarna, I get to visit to their home.
Hello Jennifer, I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, because I love this assignments you encourage us to do. You not only make me see as a homemaker but as a person, and I was blocked since years ago only thinking about cleaning and clutter and food, but you recalled me about art, music, history and that I like all that and all this culture not only makes me better but healthier. Big hugs. I do appreciate your videos so much
As a Swede I was so happy you talked about Carl Larsson and his wife Karin Bergöö. I have visited their home several times and seeing how they lived is so inspiring! Also Karin had her very own style, wearing very airy dresses unlike the fashion of the time. I think you did a good job with the pronunciation :) Karins name is pronounced like Kaarin Beryoe
Like the overachiever I am, I plunged into these assignments with glee. I've been a Larsson fan for a while now, but Elgar was a lovely revelation for me, so thank you! It felt a bit overdone for me, a single empty-nester, to make a meal plan, but I did, starting by writing a list of my go-to meals and deciding which to keep on the menu. That was eye-opening and fun and I am already reaping the benefits of more intentional meals. On a rare cool-ish day, I did some weeding in my fall storage closet and feel I have a nice base wardrobe that reflects my style. I must share one funny story--your summer-to-fall "fashion show" vid included a simple gray surplice-bodice dress that reminded me vividly of a decade-old very similar dress I thought I'd bagged up and taken to the Goodwill. I remembered how many compliments it fetched when I wore it, how comfortable and versatile it was and thought..."what did I do???" So, at 9pm, I scrambled upstairs to see if, by any chance, I'd kept it....and voila! I had! I rescued it and it is now in the mix for fall. Thanks so much for all your hard work and continuing inspiration! Autumn, here we come!
I can never chose a favorite Carl Larsson piece I love them all, especially when they have flowers and greenery! Still get my F/W capsule wardrobe together, just looking at a couple scarfs. I've always been a meal planner, thought I am actually trying the vegetable Gratin and tomatoes and pasta you had in a recent video, we have zucchini and tomatoes from our garden. The next video sounds great! Thank you Jennifer 💐❤
Hi, Jennifer! I also enjoy these videos! I've been following along since you began. I enjoy meal planning too. We purchase a 1/4 beef and store it in the chest freezer. Having meat on hand helps make the decision easier too. I've been utilizing Walmart's Pick up service (our only food store in town), which helps keep me from buying items I don't need. I haven't gone through my clothes yet. I'm waiting until Labor Day weekend. I'm not quite ready for summer to end. School has been delayed a month, so sorting out my Fall wardrobe just doesn't feel right. Plus I've lost 20+ pounds so I'm excited/nervous to see what fits. I will definitely need to buy some new items...yay! Thank you for having these assignments.
I loved the way you spoke Swedish! So cute 💕 I think it is significant that you also brought up the artists’ wives in the video. They made all the difference in these men’s lives. Without them, there probably would not be magnificient paintings or divine pieces of music.
I actually live in the area where Elgar was born and where he walked and cycled on the Malvern Hills . My husband is a guide at his birthplace . His great German friend Jaegar is actually the subject of Nimrod . Don’t you think this is such an irony since it is so often used during war commemoration services and Elgar was devastated by the First World War ? My own favourite recording of his Cello Concerto is the one by Jacqueline du Pré , conducted by the great John Barbirolli . This whole area is still very aware of Elgar’s life and music and his contribution to events such as The Three Choirs Festival and his great choral works such as The Dream of Getontius . You mentioned his wife’s family reaction to their marriage but she said she knew she was “ in the presence of genius “ . I fell in love with him as a child and that feeling has never waned .
Totally agree with his wife, Carol! He WAS a genius! And not just Nimrod. There's one moment, I think maybe two measures, in the variation dedicated to his wife, where you know, not just assume, but KNOW how he feels about his wife. It is soul-stirring.
As I only own 6 dresses (all of the short-sleeved), 1 blouse (short-sleeved too), 1 skirt and 1 cardigan. I won't probably store nothing away, but simple wear my clothes with tights and the cardigan (because it can get cold here where I live in Europe) during fall and winter. We started mealplaning over 4 years ago, best decision ever to waste less food and to save money!
That does seem like a match made in heaven, how neat! Thank you for this check-in and mention. Meal planning makes all the difference and I took down my dresses for fall. I’m looking forward to the crisp air🌹
Hi Jennifer! Wonderful video. You are probably aware of this, being a Victoria magazine fan, but there was a lovely article about the Larssons (with gorgeous photos!)in the July/August issue. I really enjoy the Chic assignments and love getting a monthly dose of culture!
Hi Jennifer, I really enjoyed learning about Carl and Karin Larsson. His paintings are stunning and her interior designs are lovely. Thank you for posting a wonderful video. Have a lovely day. xoxo, Karen
Blessings and love, I already jump to a Monthly Meal Planning and I love it. I was doing the weekly meal planning but it was difficult sometimes to weekly make time to plan. I also coordinate with winter and what I am looking for our nutrition, combining some super gourmet meals with others more simple. Of course sometimes things changes and that is ok I we don´t follow the plan. The thing is that I feel prepared. I love so much the art of Carl Larsson, it remembers me of a chilean artist Benito Rebolledo, for their focus in family and daily life. We listen a lot of Classical Music with my kids and share what we imagined with the music is so much fun. Impressive sometimes! For the wardrobe, we are entering Spring now, full of blossom and birds nesting. So glad to start getting off layers of clothes. Thank you for the inspiration
This is a truly wonderful vid 💐 🌅 Thank you soooo much for doing this - Not only did I learn some beautiful things, I am also soooo inspired by you 🍂🍃🍁🌿🌱🌾 You're an angel ❤️ Thank you 🍂
Thank you for another wonderful chic assignment! I really appreciate all the time and effort you put into them. I did not think I would like meal planning, but oh my gosh, it has been wonderful! I have saved so much time, aggravation and money. I let my family give me input on what they would like to have and then I post the week's menu on the fridge. This has cut down on the "what's for dinner?" question that was asked frequently throughout the day (major bonus)!
This was so chic again💐👨🎨👩🎨 what a power couple! Looking forward to your food vlog and meal prepping is a way of life for us in order to eat cleaner and have more discipline in our meals, also saves us time👨🍳👩🍳 on the weekends or special occasions we definitely become artist in the kitchen😀 as always best regards 🥀 Miss. Lilly 🥀
I am really enjoying the chic assignment with you. Loved learning about this couple it just goes to show how inspiring homemaking is, it truly is an art form. I will check out Elgar to. I feel such a sense of joy whenever you upload.
I recently resumed meal planning after a few months of poor mental health (and assoc poor eating) and feel better already. Roast leg of lamb n veggies Monday, leftovers Tuesday, cottage pie (beef n lentils) n veggies tonight, leftovers tomorrow, spaghetti with bacon, garlic, chilli n parmesan on Friday, leftovers Saturday. Easy peasy ! Stay safe and best wishes from Australia 🤗
This was so enjoyable--thank you, Jennifer. If anyone is interested in more on Karin, along with the book Jennifer listed (a favorite, mine is well worn), there is "Karin Bergöö Larsson and the Emergence of Swedish Design" by Marge Thorell. I am also working on my capsule wardrobe--after working from home for years, I need to ADD things to get to ten items!
I tried the salmon/crab recipe. It was a risk because my kids are so picky. But they ALL ate it ALL! 😱🥰 It’s pricey, so not a bi-weekly meal but it’s definitely on the Master Meals List as an option. And I figure - it’s still way cheaper than eating out at even a cheap sea food restaurant. ☺️ 🦀 🎣
I LOVE Elgar and can recommend LOTS of pieces by him. The complete Enigma Variations, conducted by Adrian Boult, considered to be THE recording, Pomp and Circumstance Marches (Land of Hope and Glory - March #1 - is always performed on the last night of the Proms), the symphonies (#1 is my favorite), and if you like cello, the Jacqueline du Pre recording of the cello concerto is widely considered to be the best ever. www.gramophone.co.uk/features/article/top-10-elgar-recordings lists their favorites, as well.
Jennifer thank you for this lovely Chic Assignement Check-in! I enjoyed the art and music. I wanted to mention that I am in the chic society, but I never have my name mentioned. 💕
Mommy K are you in the middle tier? I have 3 channels where it says "channel fails to load" and I have been posting in the community tab to try to figure out who they are. If you are in the classic connoisseurs (the lowest tier... the one most people join) they are not in the mentions. That is a perk for the two upper tiers. Please let me know. Thank you!
This sounds kinda weird but in our family we've been told Larsson is an ancestor. I can't confirm if it's true but we have many skilled artists like Larsson on our Swedish side of the family. So funny. My sister's name is Karin but its pronounced "car - in" she used to tell her teachers "like car in the garage." Maybe the pronunciation is a swedish thing....

He is one of my favorite artists. Even as a child I was fascinated by his works! I have the print "The Yard and Wash House" hanging in my foyer!!
Laura Ellen I had " the oversleepers gloomy breakfast" on my wall as a child ... I loved "crayfishing" and others.
Love it!
I just love the chic assignments so much, Jennifer. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to "seek out the arts" this way. :)
Thank you for the video. Not only was it educational but also relaxing. Such a positive space on TH-cam!

That is so neat!! Love that your husband is a guide at his birthplace-such rich history! I'm going to check out that recording of his Cello Concerto.
Jaegar? Is that not Jäger? Sounds like a pseudonym as it means Hunter?
I'm really enjoying this month's assignment. Thanks for keeping us cultured.
Hate meal planning, love having a meal plan.....
Your earrings are beautiful Jennifer!

Your Swedish is perfect! Come and visit Stockholm and Sundborn, you and your family would love it! 😊🇸🇪🎨

Just a note: you can download many of Carl Larsson's images on Wikimedia because they are in the public commons now. CL is one of my favorite artists.

I don't get your link in my email anymore. Do you know why? TY. I hate to miss anything.
Try unsubscribing and then subscribe again and hit the bell... that might solve it
I was introduced to Larson’s work by my mother, who would have been a kindred spirit to Karin😀
So funny. My sister's name is Karin but its pronounced "car - in" she used to tell her teachers "like car in the garage." Maybe the pronunciation is a swedish thing....
Worcester is pronounced more like Wus (weak person slang)-ter. Wooster.
