Dec 31 1999 my dad and step mom went to my aunt and uncles to countdown None really believed anything would happen although my dad had spent about $20,000 upgrading the network in his insurance offices So the girls and on the floor on their stomachs watching the countdown , my uncle slips into the laundry room and right when the ball drops at zero he flips the breaker and shuts the power off to the house....my aunt and step mom screamed like the end of the world was happening It was awesome
sawftbunzzz. I understand where the poster is coming from. Zegler has left an image of herself that unfortunately cannot be unseen by most people. Myself included. Actors are supposed to be able to disappear into their roles to be convincing. But thanks to her mouth and shenanigans she has made that almost impossible at this point. She needs to disappear for a while until her RL actions and SW connections fade from people's minds.
I'll give them points for awareness... They were smart enough to keep the rabid chihuahua's name off the poster, so maybe 3 people might get tricked into walking into the theater not expecting her.
I agree Chris, Ortega and Taylor-Joy have amazing presence. Anya shows up in Dune 2 and she almost derailed Austin Butler. Zegler THINKS that she is on their level. Which is sad.
I was picked out to join a "Y2K" team in my company in 1999, working with this issue, supporting customers etc, also involved in being ready during new years eve, and absolutely everyone knew it all was bs, and nothing would happen, i think it was mostly motivated by a "better....than sorry" mentality
I think I can speak for most of the 80s babies, we are beyond ready for early 2000's nostalgia as long as it's done well and it actually pays realistic respect to the era. The late 90s, early 2000s was literally the raunchiest, edgiest, attitude filled era of pop culture... It was beautiful.
You can't do 80s/90s/early 00s nostalgia with woke BS in it. That's not what anyone was thinking about back then and would crush any hope of recreating that social culture. I would love it but only without the woke....and no Rachel Zegler EVER
It was a very hyper sexualized era. And porn wasn’t really that available online yet. So watching a Britney Spears video was such an overwhelming experience. 😊
Al Capone's vault, Y2K, the Mayan calendar, Barak Obama......all massive flops that happened in my lifetime. Making a movie about Y2K was always going to fall flat.
Didi was also a 2000s nostalgia movie that came out this year, but that movie rocked. So that nostalgia can be done already, just has to be done right versus whatever this mess was.
Grease (the film) came out twenty years after the story was set (1958) and it worked at the time (still does). Twenty years seems to be the right amount of time after a thing has happened to make movies about it.
My time of extending grace and separating the art from the artist is utterly over. It could be the premiere film of the epoch. I will not see it because of her.
Yes, it was a problem, and while the media was busy scaring people, IT people just quickly and quietly fixed it in the background. Then because the media has so overhyped things, most people thought the whole thing was a hoax because the issue was fixed and nothing went wrong.
Has any film starring Zegler made money yet? Seriously, she even managed to tank a well established franchise(Hunger Games) and lost its money once you add the reshoots and global marketing???😂
You mention how the film should have been raunchier, should have been funnier, should have been gorier. That sounds like a Troma Film. I wish it was like that. The way you guys describe it sounds more like Can't Hardly Wait (which was still pretty funny), but maybe not as good even as that. I do like the general idea of the film. I like that alot, with Y2 actually happening I wasn't expecting that, and it sounds awesome. But I think you are right. What I'd want to see is Troma but with a more modern style (not "for modern audiences).
on Y2K, i remember doing a drum roll with only a snare drum and the new ride cymbal i'd just gotten for christmas, in my room at the 1999 into 2000 NYE. my parents were watching "Rising Sun" on cable and they were like 'wth are you playing drums at midnight??' i was like 'it's y2k!' nothing went wrong that affected us, as far as i remember.
It's mostly because she's been clever about giving off small signals of being less woke. She has all the same political views of any actress of her generation. But she sees which way the winds are blowing. Shows she's smarter. But she also has a decade of experience on Ziegler. She's a decent actress. But yah, I don't think she's amazing. She'll likely get better because she seems to really care about it as a skill. Actresses have a problem in that they often hit big when really young and don't have the time men have to improve and develop as actors.
Considering the flick sounds like maximum overdrive where mooney didn't get final cut .. I bet he might start doing a particular substance like steven king did ! And that quote of Allan's should be on rachel zegler's career epitaph !! HEHA !!!
I was 13 in 1999. The Y2K panic was insane. Instead of celebrating the new millennium, people were losing their minds over computers that can’t go beyond 1999 going haywire and the world coming to an end.
I just don't get the idea of Y2K where machines become sentient and the clob together like something from Small Soldiers where the Commandos made their war machines from amalgamated parts and then go on a killer rampage. It just doesn't add up, I get its supposed it to be wacko but it just feels weird.
This movie could have been a Horror version of Superbad, maybe a decent comedy again, from A24. One of the rare studios that still, hopefully makes creative and somewhat original films. Then stupid executives come in and ruin it??? I hate to say it but nowadays when a big studio aquires a smaller company like A24 they go from unfortunately making edgy projects to them being watered down, and not always, but often in this current woke climate, unwatchable if not unrealistic. Warner Bros used to be one of my favorite studios and made some of the best movies of all time. But like the other big ones activists have, if not completely taken over, influenced how they are run bowing to ESG and DEI mandates. These new policies are disgusting and destroying the entertainment we love! Unless this is some kind of ultimate conspiracy to change society or just how we should expect entertainment these days this model can't realistically continue. With or without Zegler's involvement It sounds like Y2K will be DOA once word of mouth gets out how this movie seems to be 'missing something' or needed to be more gory and sexualized. I can't see it making alot of money. Also I heard there are certain inaccuracies when it comes to everything from wardrobe to production design reflecting the period. With movie theatres suffering and the public thankfully appearing to not go for the current crop of woke material Hollywood has to offer I really hope this is cyclical. Maybe a great studio like A24 will not be forced to be a casualty when it comes to making films that make you think, are honest and remind us of a time when studios like Warner Bros didn't just make content but made terrific entertainment.
The cuts and the toning down most likely happen due to the test screenings and or the ratings board. While his friend loved the original cut it doesn't mean every one loved it. Remember this test screenings are filled with random people who are pretty much pulled off the street. I had a friend who once got to be in a test screenings for Lethal weapon 3 and in the cut he saw had Riggs being killed at the end which thought was bad ass. Of course we all know that didn't happen in the movie released in theaters. This shit happens all the time long before all the stuff you and so many others bitch about. It is nothing new.
Not sure if you remember when Jussie Smollett got impaled in the back of his head by the Xenomorph in _Alien: Covenant,_ but something like that would need to happen to Rachel for audiences to tune in.
Yeah, I kept thinking, "the Brits did this better with stuff like Attack the Block and Shaun of the Dead". Need a bunch of good laughs to make the serious parts hit harder.
Does it feel like a mish mash of ideas from other movies but hollow/shallow with disconnections between aspects of the film? I'm getting a feeling that there is a lot of AI driven content that is just....empty. And with people that aren't really actors but vessels for it. At the end, you don't remember anyone's names and don't really care about the fates of anyone in it. Fail.
Kyle Mooney IS SO CRINGE. I was so happy when he left snl. I don’t get his humor. He’s always the same guy. Also, he’s balding. Just own it dude. He’s like Bowen Yang. He is always Bowen Yang. Even as a masculine football player he has an effeminate speech pattern. He can’t escape it. Where was I? Oh yeah, Kyle Mooney always does the big eyed head twitch stoner guy.
Better film: Turbo Cola. A friend of mine made it a few years back as a low-budget film. It centers on a group of teens at a gas station on Y2K New Years Eve, and the employees decide to rob their own store. Grounded dramadey, available on streaming. Edit: For clarity, Turbo Cola has no apocalypse; it's just set on Y2K.
Having Rachel Zegler trying to embody someone from the 90's carefree era is like having Dic Cheney embody a Hippie from the 60's
Spot on
Well done, perfect analogy 😂
Weird, weird! 😒
Dammit! Now, I have that image in my mind and have to see *that* movie!
The Simpsons Halloween did this.
8:54 "Rachel Zegler passes as a normal, pleasant person.".
......her most difficult role to date.
I for one refuse to watch anything she's in
True testament to her acting ability
Kinda like the 1990 that messed up
Dec 31 1999 my dad and step mom went to my aunt and uncles to countdown
None really believed anything would happen although my dad had spent about $20,000 upgrading the network in his insurance offices

Your uncle is awesome. I wish I did that kind of prank that day....😂
@davidpoole5595 That's epic 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Immediately lost me with Rachael Zegler.
This could be the best movie ever and I wouldn’t care
You live a sad existence I Don't like her either but open up your mind.
sawftbunzzz. I understand where the poster is coming from.

He didn’t miss out movie was trash
@@sawftbunzzz Surprise not everyone bases their "existence" on celebrities lol
Yeah it takes me out of it too
Zegler is movie kryptonite.
I'll give them points for awareness... They were smart enough to keep the rabid chihuahua's name off the poster, so maybe 3 people might get tricked into walking into the theater not expecting her.
Ur not even worth it
Chris’s thumbnail was enough for me not to see it.
@@ZeglerIsQueen2 Zegler is a nutter.

Breakfast Club meets Maximum Overdrive 😂😂😂
I was picked out to join a "Y2K" team in my company in 1999, working with this issue, supporting customers etc, also involved in being ready during new years eve, and absolutely everyone knew it all was bs, and nothing would happen, i think it was mostly motivated by a "better....than sorry" mentality
Rachel Zegler?
Nah. I'm good.
Is the movie...Weird, Weird?
The Simpsons’ Treehouse of Horror episode did the Y2K scenario better.
Man I miss those, they were so good up until season 6ish
0:07 Funny how that advert has none of the main actors listed.
so a Maximum Overdrive remake.
Without the big trucks
Or the AC/DC.
And missing a coked out Stephen King directing. 🤣
The Wish version of Maximum Overdrive.
No Green Goblin, no AC/DC and no killer lawn mowers= NO Maximum Overdrive!!! 😂
So it’s maximum overdrive
That's a great bad movie.

@auntykriest Exactly my point.
Without the big trucks ??
They chickened out !!!
Maximum Overdrive.
This is the kind of movie that should be remade. It's a funny premise done poorly. Id love to see that original cut
Oh wow, Thank you for mentioning the original cut was so different.
Isn’t this movie like 25 years too late ???
I think that’s the bulk of the joke.
Is Zegler in Night Bitch too ?
If Zegler is in it, I'm out. Won't support her hate and delusion
I don't think I've ever disliked an actress as much as I dislike Rachel Zegler
Looks like a horror version of Super Bad.
Al Capone's vault, Y2K, the Mayan calendar, Barak Obama......all massive flops that happened in my lifetime. Making a movie about Y2K was always going to fall flat.
Had to put Zegler in the thumbnail to get the rage-bait clicks lol
Didi was also a 2000s nostalgia movie that came out this year, but that movie rocked. So that nostalgia can be done already, just has to be done right versus whatever this mess was.
1999 we had stuff like American Pie, Road trip, National Lampoon's senior trip, as romcom-teenager try to get laid... crazy
Grease (the film) came out twenty years after the story was set (1958) and it worked at the time (still does). Twenty years seems to be the right amount of time after a thing has happened to make movies about it.
About what? 25 years to be exact, about an event that never happened...maybe a satire on fake hype would of worked.
The movie was absurd and silly, but not woke. Women can be computer hackers. Some of the first computer programmers were women.
They better release the unrated version of the movie!🤘
My time of extending grace and separating the art from the artist is utterly over. It could be the premiere film of the epoch. I will not see it because of her.
The film is so unbelievable, who would have a crush on the Zegler, nope nada, negative , negatori naw, No just no
When it gets to digital!!?!? Wow physical media is sadly almost dead.
I was a programmer at the turn of the millennium. It took me about 15 minutes to fix the potential issues. Lol
Yes, it was a problem, and while the media was busy scaring people, IT people just quickly and quietly fixed it in the background. Then because the media has so overhyped things, most people thought the whole thing was a hoax because the issue was fixed and nothing went wrong.
Flaming June - Laurence Alma-Tadema.
Beautiful.
Maximum Overdrive for sure
Original cut has been deleted
A24 went full Blumhouse with Y2K. Never go full Blumhouse.
They ripped off Maximum Overdrive

Yes Wokeness is the liberal version of the Production Code. At least we still had timeless films during the code enforced era.
Movie kicked ass. Y’all taking it too seriously IMO.
That's really sad to know that they actually had a good film that got destroyed by the studio.
She was very very weak in the Hunger Games movie.
I liked it
Dumb actress meets dumb script. A Director with his lense stuck in the muck. The Producer hired Rachel Zegler, now we're all out a buck.
Does Zegler want to be the next Fran Drescher ? Does she want to be President of SAG-AFTRA ???
You lost me at Kyle Mooney and confirmed it with Rachel Zegler
So it’s literally Maximum Overdrive with a girl boss? Lmfao
A film about nothing
Yay
I'm surprised that anyone outside of Gastonia, NC knows who Fred Durst is.
The singer of a band that's sold multimillions of records? Not a supruse whatsoever
Oof.
From comment sections all over YT, this girl Zegler really needs to take some advice and lay low for a couple of years.
Thats why even that 90s show failed because they can't recreate the 90s without offending someone
I'm surprised that no-one has brought up the Simpsons Halloween episode.
Fred Durst plays...himself?
I'd love to watch y2k I was in college when this happened but I'll pass on it with Rachel Zegler in it 🤢🤮
Jenna Ortega is an overrated actress herself lol
Just started the video. Which of them review the movie without having seen it?

From the trailer my immediate concern was who is this movie for? The teen audience weren’t alive for Y2K and won’t get the references
