Bravo
Ah, thanks for uploading that. Wonderful job on the AS3! Brings back some great memories. I had one in 1974 when I was 17 and could move up from the FS1E. I used to love that nice crackle the exhausts make. :-) I used to ride like a lunatic back then and eventually I broke the crankshaft! I put second hand engine in and found that the old crank cases were in hot demand from the racing boys. They paid good money 'As long 'as you're certain it is an AS3 not an an AS1'. So off up to Scotland they went. I had an RD350b after that during the boiling UK Summer of 1976. Brilliant days!
Buddy of mine had a brand new one up in Kiruna that very year. I had a CB125 Honda, also brand new. Fantastisk restauration, grabbar! From southern California ~ Ride Forever!
THANK YOU FOR THE POST. MY CAUSIN TONY PERES MOREIRA 1954-1989, HAS ONE OF THIS IN THE EARLY 70, BRAZIL., AND I NEVER SEE THIS MOTORCYCLE BEFORE, THANK YOU ONCE MORE.
Yamaha sold that great little bike for one year in North America [1972] and called it the LS 100 . My first street bike , the first of many RD & RZ two strokers.
Wow I had one as my first proper bike after the Fs1e . My mate had a more modern RD 125 DX, it was much more reliable but the AS3 looked much nicer and I don't think the RD ever got the top end speed I got on the AS3 . Love to own one again now, 36 yrs later.😢
Exactly same colour as mine bought new 1972 U.K. , very fast at the time ,manufacturer quoted top speed 72 mph i often got 80 mph or a little more , the racing version did 115 mph @ 10600 rpm Very poor MPG though , lucky to get 35 MPG town riding . And that steering damper , great at speed but deadly if you forgot to unscrew it for the roundabouts .
Amazing, see that Instrument cluster with Analog tacho and speedometers. I would like to see those in modern bikes. Bike manufacturers should scrap digital ones. Thanks.
That’s a beautiful bike, a superb job and a very professional finish. I’m currently restoring an AS3 and I’ve a question about the spoke nuts. Are they nickel/chrome plated steel/brass or zinc plated steel with a gold phosphate tint.
With fuel injection starting to show up in two stroke dirt bikes, I have hopes for a return of the two stroke street bikes. With fuel injection, the mileage, and emissions can be very much improved.
lovely bike.. my mum had one as a commuter in the 70's - i used to clean it for pocket money.. it was bought for 40 gbp at the time i remember. certainly not 40 gbp today- my dad took it to 150kmh (90 mph) on the bypass to test it... pm me with the price one like this would go for? - i think maybe the headlight brackets were chrome not painted..
my brother had one of these as his first proper bike. i used to take it for a good blast without him knowing. It was very quick and smooth for a 125. He wrote the bike off the first day he rode it! Shame.

Hi Peter, they are zinkplated silver on the spokes, and the nuts goldplated
in the UK the engine cases where black I believe. she looks and sound beautiful
mine were silver. I think RD125s were black.
