Björn cannot love, which is why he easily gets bored of the ladies of his choosing and doesn’t care much about his children either. Ivar has always been a very emotional character, and he puts his heart and passion into everything he does. He’s the son who loves most deeply and completely. But of course people want their villain and do not bother looking beneath the surface of such a complex character. He was labelled ”monster” the moment Aslaug told Ragnar about the prophecy, so that is what people view him as, even though other characters they adore did the exact same things or even crueller things than he did. Proves how easy to manipulate people’s minds are.

Ragnar told him that being king comes with great power, bjorn did everything he could for his people and that’s love, he sacrificed a lot even his life in the end, he probably would’ve died anyways but in that way he died a hero and honorable man. I think he had a mindset that was built for war, I would do everything in my power to prove to the gods that I was a good warrior and king too. all Ivar wanted to do was play dictator and scare his people into supporting him, he didn’t do anything for his people he did it for himself, he was selfish, he might’ve been smart but he was a selfish ruler, Ivar killed his child and to not let him suffer is not an excuse.
