In this video you will learn how to make syrup chow. I prefer it this was as it packs extremely well making it easier to cast. This is a great carp and catfish bait recipe. Pack Bait is very effective to get them to bite.
Items needed
3lb of #2 chow
1 Cup all purpose flour
1 Cup soybean meal
16 Ounces of corn syrup

I've found through personal tests that most baits break faster once packed around a hook or sinker. You'll get a more accurate break time if you test it that way!

I really couldnt say as everyone has different opinions on how much they like to use flavor. I think it would take very little though maybe an ounce or two

Never did much good in the winter with syurp at pay lakes in the winter months
Seems that all baits are slow in the dead of winter. Fish are slow. I meant if it was made with syrup you could have saved it for next year as it wont go bad.

Not sure on that. I did a video a couple days later where I fished with it. The day I fished hi was in the low 40s and the ponds that I fished were frozen over the week before
Nice recipe but thats it dissolving in a bowl of still water.In a river or creek with a current thats not gonna last very long

I have a video where I used it in colder water. Takes longer to brake but as long as it's not a close to freezing temp it should be okay

I just made a batch like this but I used blueberry thrill by hawg sauce and wheat flour. How much syrup do you add if it starts to dry out

Its Trout Chow I believe aquamax is the brand think purina makes it
#2 #3 #4 is the one's we use..... 2lbs and about 12oz of any liquid and you can cast as far as you want. Use soda or Yoo-hoo even clam juice or pond water as long as its wet.
How about just pond fish food? Or catfish food? TSC near me has 50lb catfish food for like $20.

I made up a batch per the directions you provided. However, it’s been 11 hours and it’s still wet. I double checked the measurements 3 lb Aquamax 200 chow, 1 cup flour, 1 cup of soybean meal, 16 oz of Karo light syrup. What should I do? It’s too sticky to utilize at this point and concerned it won’t break down.
By the way, I did have a lid on my bucket for last 11 hours. I don’t know if you left it out in the open.
You are not the only one that has probably experienced this. It seems this year something at least in my area the flour is different. Allot of my syrup baits that involved flour started having issues. Millet is a similar recipe and it as well quit setting up. My work around on it and it will work with millet or syrup chow. Dump it onto a large baking sheet spread it as thin as you can. Heat your oven to lowest setting mine is 170 degrees. Bake for 25 min remove from oven let sit for 15 to 20 min then flip it and let it sit for another 15 to 20 min. Should be ready to go at that point. If you dont want to put it in the oven you can spread it thin on a baking sheet and sit it outside for about 30 min then flip it and let sit for 30 min again. Put in shade for it to cool and should be good to go. I will be doing an updated video for people that are having issues. What state are you located in.

have you noticed that the bean with chow works best in warmer months than winter?
I much prefer it made with syrup myself. Cast great and breaks nicely. That said if the water gets to a certain point say right at freezing then obviously it will break extremely slow. No matter what I do, I can’t get this bait to pack good enough to stay on the hook
Without being there to see your bait I really couldn't say what the issue is. I can sling this particular one as hard as I want and it doesn't come off but I have been using pack baits for nearly 30 years now

You could use wheat bran. Bean meal and wheat bran help the bait break
How does this break in the winter months when water is ice cold? Flour is a slow breaker so it’s kind of concerning for very cold water. Have you ever made it without flour?
I did a cold water test earlier today let water sit outside for few hours temp outside was in the 30s bait broke in like four and a half min or so. Any syrup bait will break slower in cold water.

Syrup chow works great in winter and you dont have to waste it. It will break in less than 5 mins in ice water! I make mine like millet though.

Took like 5 of your baits out last week. Did the best I ever did! Had issues flinging the chow and oats far so I still got to figure that out but that Panko goes a mile! Thanks for doing what you do

Should be ready in a few hours. If you have any issues spread it flat and let it sit for an hour or two flip it let it set and it should be good to go.
