The song “Tormento”, at Vina del Mar, 2017… en vivo (live)
So this video has subtitles that we had to pay someone to add for us. So far every request we've gotten for her the videos don't have subtitles. We are unsure of what to do. We can't afford to pay for subtitles on all of our videos, and we don't think the music will hit the same with us not understanding the lyrics.
It is actually very common for latin music to talk about sad things in a danceable and “happy” sounding song. For people that aren’t accustomed to hear that kinds of rhythms as sad it might sound strange, but I think is quite beautiful how sadness is portrayed in these songs.

It's because life is beautiful even while struggling. Sadness not only makes us stronger and wiser but also can give us some redemption, or the preciousness to remember a dear person; also even while we're still in that dark place the future just calls us to be hopeful.

Bueno acaban de reaccionar a la mejor cantautora latina su Majestad Mon Laferte, ganadora de varios Grammys.
When she moved to Mexico she fell in love with someone that was helping her with her career. He left her and she almost committed suicide. He died already and it hurt her but she said she forgave him . Saw her in concert and she sang that song and you can tell she still hurts . She is very talented and she wrote the song .
She has said in interviews that the song is about her own experience: in her beginnings in music, before she was famous, like all beginners, she had a hard time getting off the ground, she knocked on many doors; At that time, she had a boyfriend with whom she spent several years, who she thought was the man of her life and with whom she would grow old, but he, from one day to the next, left her without further notice, ending the relationship. She was very affected, she was very much in love and she went into a kind of depression that lasted until she decided to channel that grief and do what she does best: compose songs. From there came this and several other songs that make up that album.
In a presentation made at the beginning of 2016, Mon Laferte told those present how the popular song and the shocking story were born.
“I have a super sad song … that they put the horn on me. Yes, that's right, this is serious. They cheated on me about a year ago. I got depressed and wanted to commit suicide," said Mon, while the audience laughed nervously, without imagining that what the artist was saying was true.😢😢

well, this woman has soooo many good songs. What I wonder from you tough is if you noticed the lyrics, they were not very repetitive, there was eloquence and richness to it except the chorus of course, but she has many songs and many genres as well. You should check her out some more.
We had to have someone put the lyrics on this one for us as we didn't want to spoil it before listening for the first time. We are having a hard time getting them out on her other videos. As soon as we figure something out we will be back for more. We've reacted to songs in the past with no subtitles and we feel the reactions just weren't as good. We can feel the melody, but it's hard to get the message of the songs without the lyrics.

She went through so much in life. From growing up very poor in Peru to her dad leaving her when she was 6 yo. Then her n her boyfriend left Peru to pursue their music career in a music contest where she won 3rd place. In the midst he left her and went back to Peru. She struggled with her career for 10 years before her career took off. Her career took after she went through a tough break up where she contimplated suicide as mentioned in the song. She then started composing her own songs and lyrics. She changed her style by getting tattoos and dying her hair black. Her style in music even changed to a more dark, vintage sound. She even changed her name to Mon Laferte
