- The St. Leonard Underground Lake (Lac Souterrain) is a subterranean lake located in Switzerland, and it is one of the largest underground lakes in Europe. It is situated in the heart of the Valais Alps in the canton of Valais, between Sion and Sierre, just a 10-minute drive from Sion.
This underground lake is completely submerged, and visitors can explore it by rowing boats. Each boat can accommodate up to 40 people. In a serene environment, multilingual guides will take you on a tour of this captivating underground world. During the 30-minute guided tour, you will glide over the clear surface of the lake and unravel its mysteries.
For this visit, we booked our tickets along with the SBB train tickets, so remember to make a reservation on the official website! In addition to being open for visitors, the lake also welcomes group bookings for small music performances or private events (which surprised me). If you have the time, it's a great experience to explore.
