How many of you think there will be a major food shortage in the USA before the end of 2020? I'm talking about the supermarkets being practically devoid of food. I personally think the odds are about 50/50. I've heard bad things about the first half of September.
In order for there to be a genuine, severe food shortage in America, I think we would have to have something happen that would be so bad that all our systems went down. I don't see that happening. I hope you don't worry. There will always be enough food, maybe not what you are shopping for, but there will be food. People are so used to having 6 varieties of canned beans, they freak out if there are only 4. The term "food shortage" is thrown around too much, and all they are referring to is maybe not enough wheat or corn for a season. Broaden your connections by not just relying on a few supermarkets in your area. Find small grocery stores, produce stands (they are all over!), and find farms that sell their own things like eggs, milk, etc. When you have a lot to choose from, you can relax. And grow stuff/raise chickens.
I have read about shortages due to aluminum cans. Well last growing season they laid off most of the people in the plant here in the United States because there was no demand for them that surpassed what they had. They usually make them all year. We usually are eating canned food and grains from last year's harvest but I know we are already in this year's harvest. There are shortages in rice due to countries stopping exports because their crops are failing. Italy has lost most of there olive trees, olive oil and olives. Flour and thing made with flour like pasta. All canned items even sodas. So yes there will be shortages. If not why is FEMA and the United States government buying up all the survival food, that the long term 30 year food.
See huge short fall in CO2 gas, needed for food transport in bulk and other industrial gasses also, the market, gold prices, even iron ore are spiking up! The Stock Market rise is in direct opposition to the economic reality all indicators suggest major collapse of the Stock market...tens of millions facing evictions in US...and other issues. It doesn't look good :(
I started a Ruth Stout garden last year, but I purchased a dehydrator and any time there was a sale on veggies, I bought and dehydrated. Dry canned oats, beans, flours, pasta and rice. Have a partial garden this year and will increase the size for next year. Doing some container gardening as well this year. Potatoes, sweet potatoes, Tomatoes, Carrots, Bush beans, some herbs and strawberrys. Found a kids pool in the garbage and drilled holes. Planted lettuces and strawberrys. I get tired because I am 76, but there is a joy in planting and eating your own foo raised without chemicals. I like your channel. Information in a very matter of fact way. When the toilet paper debacle occurred I was prepared!!
Everyone in my small circle of friends and family were sick in December and January. That fever was super high and wouldn’t break. My daughter had bloodshot eyes and breathing problems. Thank God she and everyone started healthy. I think that was the Covid also
All depends... what part of the world do you live in? Apparantly NYC was contaminated thru Europe... not China and the West coast... with the middle getting hit just now.
I'm in Oz and got sick two weeks before Christmas after coming into contact with a very sick chinese lady at the shops. Headaches for three weeks, felt like I was 80 years old, unbelievable fatigue. My young son had a fever and a cough and not much else for a two days then he got better. I sort of recovered but in February ended up with breathing problems. Two days of feeling like I was drowning. Couldn't get air. Definitely pneumonia. Got sort of better again but have never fully recovered. Lung problems now and fatigue. It comes and goes and I have to be really careful. I do think it was an early case of covid. So good people, please take the good advice on this channel. When you are stuck at home unable to get supplies for your children you will feel so much worse and it can really drag on. You don't always get sick and recover quickly. Cheers
@@moyamontgomery1468 The leftovers people are getting either from the first time catching the virus or the second time now showing up, People who have thought the virus was not real and refused to mask the sick slimy snot from their mouth, is now pushing up daises or with severe leftovers. some can not wipe their own butt any longer from the brain damages and have been placed in long term care. It seems so nuts to me when people fuss over the mask, when all through history masks have been used to safeguard from a contagion. My greatgrand mom told us all about the ladies used petticoats to make masks to save the ones who faced reality that there was a contagion in the people. A contagion in people, is a contagion in people. My family and friends of my family lost a lot of hard heads during the 1918 influenza contagion. The only ones who made it was the ones who wore a mask. I am here because my line of people wore masks made out of petticoats and quilt fabrics..
@@ColleenH38 Is this your own well, or city lines? I had friends in Arkansas with land with gas deposits, they agreed (back in the 60's or 70's) to allow drilling as long as they had personal private unlimited access, they had already set the farm in an unbreakable trust for them & their kids, that allowed for additions, you could keep your underground rights there then. Don't know about now.
The Lord helps those who help themselves. Action with the love of our creator is the way to prepare. Educating our fellow villagers is a form of action.
Yes but God doesn’t want to babysit you when you run out of food. He wants us to think for ourselves in these times and prepare and help others so he can fight the big fight.
Re: your emergency kit - as a hobbyist woodworker, I keep a half-dozen "overnight disposable" diapers and a good-sized bottle of sterile saline in my shop. If I get a wound, a bandaid isn't going to cut it (pardon the pun).
I've been luckily finding some good canning supplies at the local hardware stores. Every where else, nothing other than super inflated prices for canning supplies. I also purchased a vacuum sealer, it's helping more than I had anticipated for preserving food and lowering food costs. Stay safe everyone.
As soon as our office closed in March, I began seriously prepping. One thing I think is important is sprouting. I bought very inexpensive sprouting lids (already save mason jars from tomato sauce) and another inexpensive sprouter thing. Alfalfa seeds, mung beans and especially raw sunflower seeds in shell. Sunflower seeds can be sprouted between wet paper towels on a cookie sheet. Lovely two leaf with some substance to them. Great base for a salad. Fresh clorophyll plants very important when other greens are not available. All fresh beans can also be sprouted, so consider when thinking about the amounts you are storing. Add some for sprouting.
Lydia Helmick No, you need to buy people grade -usually black and white ( but raw). Google sprout sunflowers. You eat them when they are two leaves. Great in salads!
Dont forget extra light bulbs and and extension coeds , also extra wax ring for toilet ,brakes and fuses , filter for you air conditioner and your heating system. Also one think my husband and I gave are a few cases of pidia light. We are elderly and get dehydrated easly.
Great info! I would add that we should try to get eye exams/contacts/glasses renewed now and have dental check ups if possible. Thanks for the valuable information!
I had an abscessed tooth during the “stay home” order. It was at least two weeks to get into the dentist (only taking emergencies). If I hadn’t had nano silver (10%) I’d have lost my mind. The dentist gave me an antibiotic, but honestly, the nano silver worked better. I just went back to it. I’m just saying, I’m not gonna be caught without it. Word to the wise...
Rough-Hewn Homestead Colloidal silver is from 10 nm to one micron in diameter. Nano silver is less than 1nm in diameter. That increases not only the areas in the body it can reach, but also increases its overall diameter by volume. I started buying it back when Ebola was breaking out in Africa. A Dr. wrote an article about it, saying it had been shown to kill the Ebola virus in military tests. It was quickly taken down, but she had named a website where anyone could buy it. I did so. It’s worked great for me. I’m not putting down colloidal silver, and I’m not a Dr. but, I can say, I won’t be caught without it! It really saved me when I had that abscessed tooth!
Now is a good time to get some one-gallon Mylar bags and packages of oxygen absorbers and start practicing heat-sealing low-fat, dry foods in Mylar. You can find plenty of free tutorials on the internet that show you how to do this. Store the filled Mylar bags in either five-gallon food buckets or in clean cardboard boxes to keep the Mylar from getting punctured. Use painter's tape and a Sharpie marker to make labels for each filled Mylar bag. A special heat-sealing tool will save you time but a regular clothing iron and a flat board will also work for sealing Mylar. Now is also a good time to stock up on 20 or 25-lbs bags of white flour, rolled oats, white rice, dried beans, dried peas and dried lentils to re-package in Mylar for long-term storage. You can get the big bags of basic foods at Costco, Sam's Club, WinCo, Smart & Final and from Amazon. Wheat grain, if first frozen for 72 hrs. to kill the microscopic eggs of grain-eating insects, and then allowed to come back to room temperature can be stored directly in five-gallon food buckets (no Mylar or oxygen absorbers). The wheat grain is just dormant seeds which can be kept alive for sprouting if stored in the presence of oxygen. Sprouted wheat is a vitamin-rich alternative to salad greens and other fresh vegetables when your vegetable garden is not producing in the winter. Wheat grain can also be soaked overnight and then cooked the next day in a fresh batch of water just like you would cook brown rice. Cooked wheat grain also tastes like brown rice. And wheat grain stores far longer than brown rice can. Having food storage is better than having money in the bank, because money may not help much if food prices skyrocket or there are food shortages. Food storage is insurance against hunger. Now is the time to stock up on granulated cane sugar and salt for storage directly in two-gallon food buckets (too heavy to store in five-gallon buckets; no need for oxygen absorbers for these two foods). Also a good time to buy raw honey (keep in original container and store in a dark, cool pantry). Both sugar and honey can be used as antiseptics for minor cuts and scrapes if you do not have antibiotic ointment (do not use raw honey on infants, toddlers or anyone with a compromised immune system). Now is a good time to buy a nine-shelf food dehydrator and start dehydrating fresh, frozen or canned vegetables and fruit. The really big bags of frozen veggies and fruit are economical if purchased from Costco, Sam's Club or Smart & Final when you cannot grow your own food. And get some non-stick sheets that fit on your dehydrator's racks so you can dehydrate the really wet, drippy stuff such as frozen fruit, canned tomatoes, applesauce, tomato sauce and tomatillo sauce. Excalibur is a good brand of dehydrators. Store your dehydrated veggies and fruit in Mylar with oxygen absorbers. Now is a good time to get a couple of one-burner butane stoves and cylinders of butane fuel so you can safely cook indoors if the power grid goes down and the weather is too bad to use that outdoor grill. Just set the butane stoves on your kitchen counter top when you need to use them. Now is a good time to buy cotton handkerchiefs, cotton tea towels and cotton dishcloths to use just in case you cannot get more facial tissues and rolls of paper towels. Now is the time to create a stockpile of toilet paper just incase there is another bout of excess panic buying of toilet paper. Now is also a good time to stock up on bottles of original type Dawn detergent. Dawn is much gentler on your hands if you have to start handwashing your cooking pots if the grid is down and there is no power for your dishwasher appliance. Dawn is also gentle enough to use as a shampoo/body wash for yourself and your pets. Now is a good time to stock up on bar soap for handwashing. The fat in the soap is supposed to be deadly to the covid-19 virus, so use soap instead of detergent for that frequent hand-washing. Now is a good time to assemble a hand-sewing kit or get an assortment of basic colors of thread for your sewing machine. You may have to repair/patch your clothing instead of just replacing damaged garments if there is another Great Depression coming. Prepare for the possibility of being out of work for a long time and having to live very frugally. If you have growing children, now is a good time to make arrangements with other nearby families to exchange gently worn hand-me-down children's shoes, clothing and toys. If there is another Great Depression that puts many people out of work, a children's clothing exchange can be a big help on reducing costs. If you live in the suburbs, this autumn is a good time to plant some dwarf fruit trees or blue berry bushes or blackberry brambles in your back yard or side yard. Homegrown fresh fruit is a good source for Vitamin C and makes those bland food storage meals taste better. Use that stored white flour and sugar, some of your stored cooking oil and some diced fresh fruit to make hand-pies in a skillet on the butane stove.
If you do not have the money for mylar bags you can use soda or juice bottles because they are food grade. You can store beans rice pasta and other dry foods just put a oxygen absorber in and screw the cap on tightly. Oh, AS you fill up the container tap it on the counter ot table you are working at to packing it better. Just store them in a box.
We cut up old clothing into baby wipe sizes, and put in ziplock bags . We have bags full of them, incase there’s no toilet paper, or a baby in the family. They can be washed as if they are cloth diapers, or throw away.
I've been into foraging for wild foods lately - it's very interesting and something that was done as a common thing 2 generations ago. I remember foraging dandelions, for example, with my grandmother as a little girl, along with several other things. I got a few books on the subject about local foraging, and have canned several foods that I've locally foraged, all off my own property (so far) this year. I've done fancy rose petal syrup, pickled fiddleheads, and Japanese knotwood jam. I plan to do more. I also have a CSA from a local farm. I enjoy canning and I put up at least a couple hundred jars a year. Usually no need to buy jars, lots of people have jars in the family from previous generations that they are happy to give you, yards sales, thrift shops, Goodwill, Salvation Army stores, etc, very cheap - they are universal sizes. Then you only need the lids.
When my children were young I taught them to recognize both dandelions and plantain, both are easy to find and plentiful. Just in case I taught them skills when they were young, long before any of them were teenagers. Today I would add grape leaves, and clover to the list for children to identify, maybe more. When camping I showed them how to prepare baked potatos wraped in foil, and placed in hot ashes. A lot of simple things like that, that could help a child survive if need be.
May I ask what books you bought? My husband mentioned wishing he had a book on local plants and their uses months ago before the pandemic and I'm wishing more than ever we had bought some. Thanks!
First time :-) Your so right, people laughed at me because of my pantry (full) well who is laughing now. i am stocked with food and get extra every week to rotate , so while people rushed out and grabbed every thing. We stayed home :-) I have been doing this for years and glad i did. Oh not forgetting animal feed. you take care.
Each week we've been concentrating on one thing; oral hygiene, hair care, lotions & sprays, snacks, etc. - as each category has enough, we move to the next category of items we'll need and may be difficult to find.
How am I just now finding you? I was having a high stress, freak out kind of day, lol, BUT this just soothed me back to normal. 💚 It’s really great to meet you, we’re new here! 💚
We even tried to buy a new freezer because ours was having problems and it was too old to buy parts, everyone said people were panic buying freezers too and they were back ordered for 3 months!
Thank you for this video. I had never seen any of your videos before. This one just popped up as recommended. It was great. I will definitely be checking out your other videos and your blog posts! Looking forward to learning more!

You are so right about the prescription meds.. We are on a 3 month mail program but that didn't stop us from getting a notice that the meds. were unavailable. I called the mail-in pharmacy and they told me that the hospitals had pulled all the respiratory meds. they could get from the pharmacies. We had to go through 2nd and 3rd choice meds. until the doctor finally hit on 1 the pharmacy had available. Toward the end of the winter Insulin was in short supply. All the pharmacy could tell us was go to the hospital and get a shot. Can you imagine the cost of daily emergency room visits for an Insulin shot?!! Thankfully we were able to get a bottle of Insulin and get through until Insulin was back in stock. Even if you don't need it now, stock up.
I keep osha root on hand. It's stopped my colds and upper respiratory infections in their tracks.Boiling a few pieces in a pot of water creates a great tea for colds and infections.
April Cervantes oh my gosh so much to learn, so happy I my daughter had forward me Amy’s TH-cam video, as I started to listen to it, I started to read everyones comments. I’m so excited to learn from you guys thank you for the tips.
Good reminders. We should all have this on hand even with out covid. But I think people often forget about over the counter drugs. And different age children need different strength. Ie infant child teen/adult
Plus if money is online only it can be hacked. Some of our stores are only taking card payments. We don't have bank accounts as we don't make enough to keep an account open. Daniel is more cooperative when he first wakes up so school work at home must be done all at once with no breaks. He tends to want more break time than work time. In my experience you are more productive if you work more and take shorter breaks. They are planning to reopen the schools on September 8 here.
Interesting that you said that you got sick in January because we did too, and just like you, we rarely get sick. Haven't been ill in 5 years since going Keto. Thank you for taking the time to make this video to share your knowledge. I just found your channel today and decided to subscribe because you cover a lot of things that I need more guidance with. Again, thank you.
A lot of good advice, thanks, anything that has long shelf life or nonperishable items are great to stock up on but necessities should be first, if your new to prepping try not to let it overwhelm you, God bless and stay safe

Yes Hod will and there’s plenty of food 🥘 here in California! Tissue paper 🧻 too! People just Panic Buying, because of Videos like this!!! People now want Lysol “Toxic”
Mizz Clecle everyone needs at least 2-3 month supply of Necessities, but not to try to buy it all at one time taking from others. Just buy a few extras each month. I have 7 months supply of paper goods, canned meat etc. But no way could I buy it in one shopping trip😱 i just buy a couple extra cans of our favorite items. Gosh 2 12 roll of charmin TP is $25.00 and i could never buy 20-30-40 packs at one time😳 but and one each month is doable. I do not believe a home can be prepared for “ the end of the world” I mean if its the TRUE end of the world, the only help is Jesus❤️
Mona Morgan yes, I agree 🙏🏽 I see it’s plenty on shelves now except for Lysol! Which I don’t really use. One ☝🏽 meal a day is good for me. I know what it is to skip a meal 🥘 Yes, Jesus is our help 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 And God will make Provision for us👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
EXCELLENT LIST!!! Thank you for sharing this Amy! If I may, I have a few notes that might be helpful for your followers that I was thinking of as I listened: Canning Lids: I heard a fairly recent podcast somewhere with the person who runs Lehman's that even when the website says they are backordered on canning lids, that you should still order them, because as they come back in stock, they will fill those orders first. Take that for what it is worth. TP: I've discovered that Sam's club will have TP in stock from time to time for online ordering even when they are out of stock in stores. This is how we have managed to slowly build a reserve. Feminine Hygiene: With two teen girls and myself we go through a lot of supplies, we switched to menstrual cups and oh the savings! Pro tip: a jar with hydrogen peroxide and water to soak the cup in for a few hours to a few days after that week will eliminate unsightly stains and help to clean them completely...it is far more thorough a cleanse than boiling. Bottom shelf vodka is a great substitute for rubbing alcohol to make homemade hand sanitizer. (although I prefer soap and water) Cash reserves: Having multiple denominations, especially smaller denominations are useful to have on hand. Sometimes during power outages mom and pop stores will still function on a cash basis and this means you can buy that ice when your card isnt working. In addition to Amy's awesome Herbal Companion (which I reference constantly!! It is already lovingly dog eared and stained with coffee too, haha) may I recommend the books Herbal Antivirals and Herbal Antibiotics by Steven Harrod Buhner, as well as his paper online about Covid 19 care. They are excellent resources and extremely educational. I love the fact that he has a ton of legitimate research sited in these books. Finally, Living Web Farms on youtube has a bunch of great resources for sustainable living, gardening, livestock care, and preparedness. I look forward to when perhaps they can collab with Amy! Thanks again, Amy! You are a gem!
Natasha S. Excellent suggestions!!! Thank you, I’m new to canning, I started about a year and half ago, I love it 🥰 but run out of ideas to can, I do try to can some of the meals I grow up on... I experiment lots. I also started Stock piling
Oh my, I just spent the last hour reviewing the online article by Steven Harrod Buhner. So much information in eighty pages to absorb. Thank you for sharing this!
Just ran across your channel & it's great! So informative! I'm a low income urban dweller who lives in a tiny apartment. My front yard's a sidewalk & my back one's an alley. There isn't even a blade of grass on the property, much less a growing space. Would like to have some advice which targets people in my situation. Thanks.

I have used my cloth pads for nearly 20 years! I can't use a diva or other cup due to a tipped uterus (so painful to have one in!). When I had babies in cloth diapers I realized cloth pads were a no-brainer for me too.
Solid information. I did subscribe. And the two videos I've watched I've liked. I only mentioned this to make your videos a little more appealing but you tend to prattle on, lengthening the video quite a bit. I love the information. I'm an herbalist myself and Have Not disagreed with one thing that you said. Thanks for continuing doing what you do.
It’s actually good advice. I started dieting for that reason. Less that I am concerned about COVID. More that I’m concerned if supply became an issue, I would suffer from deprivation and take more than my share. Better to accustom myself to eating less while there is plenty. Not my only reason for dieting of course, but it did cross my mind.
@@stillwatersfarm8499 I learned to diet and fast out of necessity. I raised two daughters on less than $15,000 per year. No child support. Saved every extra penny. When I was suddenly disabled at age 47, I was able to retire comfortably. Currently, I'm 65. Weigh 115 pounds. My low weight also puts less stress on my injury.

Thanks for the reminders, I have my own apothecary, but, Tylenol, is low, added peroxide to my list. Hoping for the best, but, planning, for the just in case! Don’t forget if you live near a dollar tree or 99 cents store you can stock up on items , like band aids, alcohol, peroxide. And use those coupons, at the market, target, Walmart, for toothpaste, laundry soap etc. Go digital or printable if you don’t want to clip from the newspaper inserts 😊.
OH MY GOODNESS, I’m so happy my daughter forward me this video, so may things I didn’t think of, although I thought I was doing good, as far as preparation for what we could be facing not far down the road!!! THANK THANK YOU for taking time out of your day to point out things that truly slipped my mind
As I live in Canada things are a bit different. But due to our short growing season there are tons of things that you can grow in pots need to go inside the shed in september not to freeze at night but great way to get veg. Kale, beets, peas lettuce ect take some cold and are very nutritious a good veggie stock made with those will go a long way.
Love this video, Amy. Here is another filtration system: air filters to fit into slightly-open windows. Check out Air Guardian filters if you have slider windows.
I feel you have many common sense ideas in your list but I feel you missed a big one...learn to live in frugality now. Eat less, spend less, use less. Begin now so there is more available in your stash later along with the extra you acquire and also less shock in lifestyle. We began eating less in February and acquiring more even back then. By mid March we had gotten a half piggy in the freezer and a quarter cow...we acquired our garden seeds and I have lost 16#...had it to lose so all the better. As the garden comes into full production I’m feeling more confident in our preparedness as our consumption drops at the same time.
One meal a day is enough, make it a good one and get in a groove with it. If you get hungry again before bed, a few cheese and crackers will enable you to sleep well. Only exception is people with illness or on medicines or pregnant - then listen to your body. Healthy people do not need to eat 3 meals a day. Intermittent fasting is good for you and calorie restriction extends life. Get used to drinking more water and moving. Your body will thank you.
I believe it's an American thing, this obsession with food, especially homesteaders. Don't take me wrong, we here in Europe have homesteaders too and people do store food and prepare but it's not to the level of obsession as in the USA! For example European homesteaders talk about other things than just food, hobbies, nature, how to help with regenerating forests, etc but most American homesteaders obsess only about food, food and more food!😵. We eat to live, not live to eat. People should learn to eat less and be mindful of others, humans and animals and trees, etc. Just my two cents😁
@@thelandofmint I agree and eating to live IS the best approach...but right now, after being at home since March, all I really really want to do IS live to eat...I want reservations at the best Seattle dining spot and an indulgent dining experience complete with far too much liquor and wine and a dinner bill the size of a car payment. I really wish that instead of spending July 1-July 15 working my behind off on a double large garden this year, to do my part in lessening the strain on the food chain here, that I had actually been staying at our friends country home in France...like we planned...for a year...celebrating my 50th birthday. I wish we had just gotten back and were still complaining about the inferior service we had in our first class airline seats and been writing my letter of complaint to the airline. But instead, I’m living in the USA, where Covid is not under control, it is getting worse for a million reasons I shan’t even touch on, but the rest of the world can see from any distance exactly why it is happening. I am in desperate need of a manicure and pedicure for all the seemingly permanent garden soil stuck beneath my nails, and my pale Northern European complexion has been lost to a very dark tan even after two bottles of spf 50 have been smeared all about my exposed skin since the sun came out in May. What I do know, is that I’m doing a great job ensuring my household has clean organically grown food that will allow us to minimize our exposure to Covid by basically eliminating our trips to the grocery store. AND if it comes down to a severe break in the US food chain...which is totally a possibility...I know MY family will eat. I would love to stick around and discuss saving the forests, world peace and starving children of Africa, BUT I have to go clean the chicken coop, gather my farm fresh eggs, weed a couple garden rows, harvest my beets, plant a row of Chard and then make dinner. Cheers.
Amazon's prices for so many things is absolutely through the roof! Things that are normal price are out of stock. I was looking for odor eliminators for my cat area, and saw sprays priced $14 on up. Are you kidding me? I decided to just make my own with a spray bottle and a tablespoon of bleach and water.
I have found them in Dollar General and most all grocery stores. Most ecspesally the discount grocery stores. Goodwill and garage sales. Just check the rims for nicks. If I find lids in a store I buy as many as I can afford. I have even bought a new gasket for my pressure canner. I have a dial gauge but I bought a seperate weight that can be broken down into 5, 10 and 15 weights so I do not have to worry about the gauge.
I have four packages of cans for canning but twice I tried to buy a canner the presto third 23 quart and twice it was on its way and they both were canceled one through eBay one through Amazon I cannot find the presto 23 quart canner -- out of luck
You're better off buying local honey, the honey is made from the usual flora in your area. Also if you take your garlic and place it in a small canning jar top it off with that honey you'll have just about the best antibiotic on the planet. You'll have to burp the jar for about a week. Use the honey in your tea and eat the garlic clove whenever you are feeling like you're coming down with something. When I had the covid symptoms beginning I did that plus 1tbs apple cider vinegar 3x/ day, neti pot 2x/day, vitamin d3, high dose vit c, elderberry syrup, and guaifenesin. I was over it in 3 days.
I don’t know how I came across your channel but glad I did. I love the way you presented the info and like the tone of your voice. I was lucky to get some elderberry extract tin April. I am looking forward to learning more about the others herbs you mentioned. Thanks so much for taking your time to share.
Wish I had hens, but I'm too busy to get them this year. With hens I could stock up on canned milk and hen feed. Then stay home all winter. Tylenol is bad for your liver? Oh crap! I went through over 600 extra strength Tylenol last year. I think I'm using a little less this year. Saving time and money is one thing, how you spend time and money is more important. I one buys long lasting tools/knowledge, the money is not there to waste on unnecessary things. I'm not a theist but, wrt the spiritual preparation, there's also having a vision of how your current actions effect your personal vision of the future you want to see. It is very depressing to go through life not knowing why you do anything you do. It might be possible to trade labor for produce with a local farmer.
I'm late on making my elderberry syrup for the winter and taking it. We have been using the overcounter ones right now. I normally add fresh ginger to my elderberry syrup and will start looking at putting rosehips in it.
I felt like people thought I was nuts for saying this very thing about Fall/Winter. May I add to make sure if you use propane or kerosene to fill up now. We use both. One to cook and one to heat. Also you might mention for those with health issues that rely on machines to prepare those also. Generators only go so far if you are not able to get gas to run them. This is from experience. 😳 Keep hobby supplies stocked also. I crochet. So I can make blankets, shawls, etc.. And may we all get through with good health and full tummies. I just hope all the rioting and anger stops soon. God Bless.
Thank you Amy! This was a great list. Very helpful for what to think of for the future. I am excited to hear that you are making a herbalist course. I will keep my eye out for more information. Thanks again and I pray your family stays blessed and well.
Our little mom & pop grocery stores seem to have lots of canning supplies but the big chains are running out. I finally invested in some tattler lids. I haven't used them yet, kind of saving them...
Great video! It's always a very smart idea to just be prepared for virtually anything. As for this pandemic I guess it depends where you're located? In terms of shortages. Everything seems to be stocked back up here in Northeastern Canada. I don't see any shortages at all anymore. Some things cost more now, some things haven't gone up. I don't think we're going to see a shortage of anything and I don't believe we will go back on lockdown. I just don't see it. But I'm all for self-sustaining and preparedness. You can't go wrong if you're prepared.
G'day, l'm watching from my home here in Australia 🐨🦘🇦🇺😁👍 Summer is coming up in December here in Australia, and apart from stocking up on food medicine and other stuff etc, l can't stop thinking of buying small plastic pool for my backyard.
Don't forget to buy books about gardening , prepping , canning ,hunting , natural home remedies, first aid book etc. Buy phone solar charger and stock on medications . Prepare for winter and make sure you have a second heating source ...wood , kerosene heaters , extra thick blankets etc. If the grid goes down plus the pandemic lockdown and living in a high crime city....we are done !! 😱
East coast Love If you haven’t heard of the Foxfire Books, check them out! They explain in detail the ways people lived on what they had available on the land...www.amazon.com/gp/bookseries/B00CJDHL4Y/ This is the site that the project was started from. Students went out to rural elders homes to learn their stories and wisdom before it was gone for good. I have books 1-5. Now that I looked it up, I’m going to go ahead and order the rest. Yeesh. I talk too much!
now is the time to get what you can, because with the food shortages coming, and everything else that is happing , you need to be prepare, we know that we will be locked down again, we live in a HOT ZONE so it will happen, our kids will be doing remote until Step. 18th but feel they will just keep it that way the rest of the year, I just canned 4 pints cherry tomatoes and 2 blueberries, by the end of summer should have at least a case of both, have other stuff have to can also, still getting canned food and medical, just do not want to get into our storage, in stead just took what I needed but made sure to replace what we used, that way, we used the old and put the new up,
Yes, and try to get the companion book for dental. Also, Dr Joe Alton has several great books written for layman. (“Dr Bones and Nurse Amy” here on YT).
Thanks Amy! I already have prepared for alot of this but the herbs I need to read your book again. I have elderberries to make syrup and have been taking elderberry capsules for around 5 months. I have asthma so I reall need things to help with that.
I’m so panicked, the money we spent to start a garden was a waste because all our flooding. I don’t know how to can. After my savings went to medical bills...I feel scared for my family. I did get rain barrel and sawyer mini. Trying to spend $20 extra a week for extra food and supplies we wouldn’t normally have, but I feel like time is running out.
That’s terrible I’m so sorry!! Even just buying canned food while in the process of learning to can could slowly and less stressfully allow you to grow your stash and also your skills. I find that I get overwhelmed with all the possibilities but being realistic to your situation and current skills can help you maybe work smarter rather than harder. Blessings to you and your family you’ve got this.
You can go to the grocery store and get items that are shelf stable and use your freezer to freeze fruits and veggies. Any canned food is better thank no food. Be blessed
water bath canning is very simple. look it up on youtube while you can. used book stores carry lots of books with recipes. you can can in any large stock pot, use a towel at the bottom if you don't have the thing to go in the bottom. start simple with jams, tomatoes, salsa and peaches. learn the difference on water bath or pressure canner. You can do it!
I would recommend getting the Ball Canning book, or The Farm Girl's Guide to Preserving the Harvest book. Both are very very informational. There are also a LOT of videos on YT you can learn from. As far as food storage, you can just stock up with canned food from the store now. Or, as I mentioned, reach out to local orchards and farms. A lot of times they sell their imperfect produce for super cheap, and it's a great way to stock your pantry with canned goods. Deep breath! You'll be ok!
Paula, you are probably alot further along in your preparation than you think. I've seen people literally fight over supplies. I always buy one or two extra water bottles (still shopping once a week)and put them down especially since I live in Florida and we are now in hurricane season. I also have great nieces that need monthly supplies.you can get l lot of tampons, pads and wipes at your local dollar store. They may not be name brand, but they work just as well!I try to put a little cash aside as well.Wishing you good luck on your prep.
Well, I guess doing something is a way of coping with feelings. We don't know what's coming. Stockpiling is at least something we can do. I haven't stockpiled anything since this whole thing started. I just buy things after work. I work at a grocery store. Can't imagine it half empty.
@@TheFewellHomestead Thank you. I had mixed feelings about pulling them out of my garden. But, as you know, they'll be back! Thanks for your answer and I look forward to seeing your mullein clip.
Some people really do not have extra money. Not everyone wastes money. Not everyone can afford to prepare as much as you do. Some people are doing the best that they can. People do the best that they can. However, you do give some good advice.
You’re into homesteading, homeschool, and herbs? You’re my new favorite person ❤️
If not why is FEMA and the United States government buying up all the survival food, that the long term 30 year food.
watch for Sept 18 / 20. a game changer
thefirst noob also, there is going to be a shortage of pickles due to a mold problem on crops. I stocked up.
See huge short fall in CO2 gas, needed for food transport in bulk and other industrial gasses
also, the market, gold prices, even iron ore are spiking up! The Stock Market rise is in direct opposition to the economic reality
all indicators suggest major collapse of the Stock market...tens of millions facing evictions in US...and other issues.
@Marty Wheeler so true

Cheers

I don't recommend freezing. We may be without power. Learn to can everything!
@Jo Gill Good for you. Sounds like you've got your act together! 😊
Eggs in all the baskets.
@Jo Gill Do you have a recommendation for solar power? What do you use to run your freezer?
We have a standby generator that runs on natural gas. It has our entire home running like normal just 8 seconds after power loss.
The only way to truly prepare is a relationship with theLord😃
The Lord helps those who help themselves. Action with the love of our creator is the way to prepare. Educating our fellow villagers is a form of action.
Yes but God doesn’t want to babysit you when you run out of food. He wants us to think for ourselves in these times and prepare and help others so he can fight the big fight.
The lord has led you here to hear the message. Take heed. Prepare
@Von_Nightmare_ Luciferian I'm so sorry for you
And the lord will prepare you!🙏🏼💯
Can you please do a video all about canning for beginners? Don’t know where to start!
PRETTY PLEASE!
I always get buy one,get one kitty litter,and/or cat food, especially if you're in a hurricane area!
Golden3000997 are you saying the black sunflower seeds we buy for the birds can be grown between paper and eaten as salad greens?
Thank you! Got a brand new prescription glasses a couple of weeks ago.
And don't forget to get prescriptions renewed ahead of time. I maxed out all my refills.
@@Hummingbird-ns1fp Is that similar to colloidal silver? I'm not familiar with it. Thanks!
Literally the best video in a long time. Very very wise and helpful. Thank you
Prepare for the worse and hope for the best.❤
Just store them in a box.
some really good suggestions here! Thank you. The cotton dishtowels, great idea! If you have no paper towels
those will come in handy!
God bless you Linda for your meaningful post and information !
@@thefirstnoob5577 yes!!! Many thinking outside the box for cheap alternatives.❤️
We cut up old clothing into baby wipe sizes, and put in ziplock bags . We have bags full of them, incase there’s no toilet paper, or a baby in the family. They can be washed as if they are cloth diapers, or throw away.
Baby wipes can be a subsitute for toilet paper also in a pinch.

EXCELLENT LIST!!! Thank you for sharing this Amy!
If I may, I have a few notes that might be helpful for your followers that I was thinking of as I listened:
Canning Lids: I heard a fairly recent podcast somewhere with the person who runs Lehman's that even when the website says they are backordered on canning lids, that you should still order them, because as they come back in stock, they will fill those orders first.
(although I prefer soap and water)
Cash reserves: Having multiple denominations, especially smaller denominations are useful to have on hand.
Excellent information!!
Thanks.
Thank you Amy! I know I'm going to come back to reference this video again and again. Very helpful information.
I think your advice are great, thanks for all the good ideas. Warm hugs from the French Alps.
Amy, I just came upon your YT page and subscribed. You are a breath of fresh air. You have a very calm demeanor and get right to the point. I look forward to viewing more of
your posts.
Great video, Amy. I think my favorite part of the video is your suggestion of milk thistle to take with Tylenol. Thank you! Spot on about not trying to make homeschool like public school. I am a former public school teacher who is going on 19 years of homeschool. They are two different animals. Thank-you🌻katie
Cloth menstrual pads! I know I know... But from experience it's a great option.

I have used my cloth pads for nearly 20 years! I can't use a diva or other cup due to a tipped uterus (so painful to have one in!). When I had babies in cloth diapers I realized cloth pads were a no-brainer for me too.
@@WellEditedCo how did you make them? Plz share. I too have issues with Diva Cup
@@frithar waterproof sheets? Which ones?
Solid information. I did subscribe. And the two videos I've watched I've liked. I only mentioned this to make your videos a little more appealing but you tend to prattle on, lengthening the video quite a bit. I love the information. I'm an herbalist myself and Have Not disagreed with one thing that you said. Thanks for continuing doing what you do.
Thank you for your extensive teachings. Looking forward to herbal classes. Stay safe and blessed.
To save money and improve health, learn to diet and fast. Obesity makes you more susceptible to cardiac disease, diabetes and Covid as well.
Sorry, but no way Jose!!😆
@The Calming Kind That's okay. As a Registered Nurse, I continue to give advice for a healthier lifestyle.
Let’s go back and rewatch this and send it to some of my friends I can’t believe all the information that you have - your amazing
You tube has suture classes for college students. If you get the stuff learn how to use it. GET A BOOK TO EXPLAIN HOW TO USE IT BECAUSE YOU MAY FORGET WHEN YOU NEED TO DO IT. Sweet Gum is a component of tamiflu. Those sweet gum balls can be made into a tincture. Some people make mimosas tincture for nervous issues. California poppies have no opium but still some people make tincture out of it to help people getting off pain meds or drugs. Love this message. I have been stocking up for a while now and I love love love home remedies and use them all the time.
Oh my goodness we got sick too in January. I tested negative for the flu and two weeks later i got sick again and tested positive for the flu. We really think we had covid19..we did get covid19 we are now recuperating from it.. God bless!
I was sick as a dog in January too. Was told I had pneumonia. Took four doctor visits, three rx's and a shot and three weeks before I felt better. My lungs are still sensitive. It was rough.
@@dianewalmsley4800 I've heard of several others that were sick like that too but this virus was lab created, used to control the population. Most govts are not for the people.
I just came across your channel and subscribed. I love your dedication to give information :)
Thrift stores always have canning jars. Walmart has the lids
Heather humblebee art Sotack not many jars -6 - at goodwill today
Not right now they don’t. 😩
They’re all closed here...
Heather humblebee art Sotack I’ve had no trouble finding jars and Dollar General. If that helps any..
Michaels too!
Thank you. Your information was very helpful; and much needed at this time.
Cheers.
I already can’t find mullein. And as for canning supplies, I can’t find them in stores but I do see them on amazon for about 3X normal prices!
Janice Crowell, I can’t find gallons of apple cider vinegar. 🧐
Kathy C I found one at Wal Mart, White House brand, for 9.97! Organic with mother!
I have four packages of cans for canning but twice I tried to buy a canner the presto third 23 quart and twice it was on its way and they both were canceled one through eBay one through Amazon I cannot find the presto 23 quart canner -- out of luck
I got it in January also. I rode the fever and only took one spoon of Manuka honey every day. No other drugs, no aspirin, Tylenol or ibuprofen...
WHat is the primary differences between this honey and local honey?
Rogue, what is Manuka honey?
Tractor Supply has food grade buckets and gamma lids.
You are such a sweet heart. Thank you for sharing life saving skills.🐓🐣
My current goal? Getting a hand pump on our well. No power, no problem. Something to think about. 💦
Replace paper products with cloth! Bidet for the bathroom reduces TP usage and it’s much better for septic systems.
I used a peri bottle instead of tp and a norwex cloth.
I've never seen this channel before but I am so impressed!! Subscribing now! ❤
I'm late on making my elderberry syrup for the winter and taking it. We have been using the overcounter ones right now. I normally add fresh ginger to my elderberry syrup and will start looking at putting rosehips in it.
Amy, thank you for sharing. I also am preparing for this fall and winter. Your video really helps. I am looking forward to your herbal class.
God Bless.
I all really start restocking my supplies buying flour and cleaning supplies,I be done by middle of August
Store food only in food grade plastic buckets from Walmart. Home Depot and Lowes dont sell food grade buckets.
They actually do now ☺️
Thank you Amy! This was a great list. Very helpful for what to think of for the future. I am excited to hear that you are making a herbalist course. I will keep my eye out for more information. Thanks again and I pray your family stays blessed and well.
Lp camp stove solar panel will keep your ref running or a generator
Do you know why the canning lids now say they are good for 18 months? I thought they were good for a very long time.
Not sure, but I know they don’t seal as well anymore either
You prepping for more than a second wave are prepping for something a lot worse then you think keeping prepping
Dylan Solomon what do you think is coming this fall?
A societal collapse of a civil war
Hunger games
The great depression
I have a really small freezer but its about full I'm canning growing a garden I'm getting food grade buckets but I don't have miler bags
A lot of what you would put in milar bags you can put in glass canning jars. I have a Food Saver system. Wouldn't be without one. Country Blessings!
I don't use mylar bags. I either vacuum seal in mason jars or just toss in the buckets.
Amy, hugs to you and your family. I appreciate this info so very much. It’s a great reminder to be prepared!! I’ll share this video for others. ❤️
Women just remember the term on the rag. That is what you will use and wash when the over the counter stuff is gone.
DIVA CUP
This is so important. Just last night I placed a huge amazon order. I did not order the right stuff. Not at all. Janice
On Amazon you can buy a case of Scott bathroom tissue(80 rolls) for $39.95.
thats not bad
Thanks so much for doing this, it was really helpful and the push I needed to get in gear now.
Save the lids that don’t get bent all up you can use them again .
G'day, l'm watching from my home here in Australia 🐨🦘🇦🇺😁👍
Summer is coming up in December here in Australia, and apart from stocking up on food medicine and other stuff etc, l can't stop thinking of buying small plastic pool for my backyard.
I am WOKE. Thank you Amy!!!
Great level headed advice tysm
Don't forget to buy books about gardening , prepping , canning ,hunting , natural home remedies, first aid book etc. Buy phone solar charger and stock on medications . Prepare for winter and make sure you have a second heating source ...wood , kerosene heaters , extra thick blankets etc. If the grid goes down plus the pandemic lockdown and living in a high crime city....we are done !! 😱

This is the site that the project was started from. Students went out to rural elders homes to learn their stories and wisdom before it was gone for good. I have books 1-5. Now that I looked it up, I’m going to go ahead and order the rest.
Yeesh. I talk too much!
Buy a generator now before you need it! In cold climates you will need it.

Thank you for the advice! We all need this 🙏🏻♥️
now is the time to get what you can, because with the food shortages coming, and everything else that is happing , you need to be prepare, we know that we will be locked down again, we live in a HOT ZONE so it will happen, our kids will be doing remote until Step. 18th but feel they will just keep it that way the rest of the year, I just canned 4 pints cherry tomatoes and 2 blueberries, by the end of summer should have at least a case of both, have other stuff have to can also, still getting canned food and medical, just do not want to get into our storage, in stead just took what I needed but made sure to replace what we used, that way, we used the old and put the new up,
Love and prayers from Alabama ❤️🙏
Amy, I have a book "Where There Is No Doctor." I'm not a medical professional, but it seems to be a good book.
Yes, and try to get the companion book for dental. Also, Dr Joe Alton has several great books written for layman. (“Dr Bones and Nurse Amy” here on YT).
I'm going to try & buy these books. Thanks for info.
Just eat healthy, exercise and maintain a low weight. Common sense sanitation. I haven't seen a doctor for more than 10 years.
I have that book. I took it with me on a mission trip to the Amazon in Brazil in 1995 when I was in nursing school. It was really helpful.
I’ll have to order that one. Thanks for the info. We love having actual books on hand.❤️
Thanks Amy! I already have prepared for alot of this but the herbs I need to read your book again. I have elderberries to make syrup and have been taking elderberry capsules for around 5 months. I have asthma so I reall need things to help with that.
I also have asthma what can we keep on hand that helps besides essential oils??
I’m so panicked, the money we spent to start a garden was a waste because all our flooding. I don’t know how to can. After my savings went to medical bills...I feel scared for my family. I did get rain barrel and sawyer mini. Trying to spend $20 extra a week for extra food and supplies we wouldn’t normally have,
but I feel like time is running out.
Please tell us if we should be using first or second year mullein leaves for these uses. Thanks.
Doesn’t matter - both are fine.
Wonderful video, thanks so much!
