    Hey I posted an incorrect comment on the fuel pump video but it turned out to be this part!!! It was hot to the touch too! Your videos are the best! Thank you.
    Check engine light code: p2293 and was cutting out while driving 09 CC 2.0

    Hey man, I just wanted to say a massive thanks for producing this video as it helped me sort the fuel supply issues on my mk7 GTD. After replacing the fuel pump (it was making a horrible sound similar to a bag of bolts being shaken, but the new one did the same), replaced the fuel filter (which actually really needed replacing!) I was left scratching my head until I came across this video. Ordered a replacement fuel pump control module, swapped it out and boom, car started first time and has been running amazingly since. Previously the car would run for somewhere between 15 secs and 5 mins before cutting out. Thanks a lot!

      I second this! Changed all the same parts on a mk7 2.0 TDI and even wrapped the fuel pipes but it still sounded terrible, as soon as I changed this module everything was fine

    Great info Charles. My FPCM just failed recently. It began exhibiting all the symptoms about a week or 2 ago, random stalls, difficult restarts. But with all these, if you waited a certain amount of time, depending on the ambient temperature outside, anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour the symptoms would temporarily disappear, only to rear it's ugly head again sometime later, depending on the outside temperature. Volkswagen did issue a recall on this part a couple of years ago ( I am the second owner) but I never had the service performed because I never saw any symptoms and assumed the previous owner had had the service performed. (Lesson learned). However, this summer so far we've had a warmer than normal summer where I live. That compounded with the fact that my A/C is not working probably made matters worse and accounts for the reason the module in my vehicle started overheating. If it hadn't been for the recall, I'd have probably replaced the part myself after seeing how simple it is to replace. Like you said, the most difficult task in the replacement is removing the back seat and pulling back the small piece of carpet hiding the rubber cover (I have a 2009 VW Passat station wagon with the 2.0 L Turbo B6 engine). Thanks again for the post. I never miss your videos. I find them very informative and always easy to understand.

    Can this or lpfp cause misfires?

  • @gglovato
    @gglovato 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    potted electronics are pure evil, btw, that's a terrible design as potting compounds are terrible for heat transfer hence you leave the backside of the power packages on the surface where you attach a heatsink of some kind(i can understand why they potted it due to the posibility of gasoline fumes nearby, then again there's a submerged brushed pump INSIDE the tank AND penetrating vessel connectors so moot points there).
    Also, not likely a regulator, but the power mosfet that drives the pump, likely pump gets harder with age and eventually module goes bye bye due to thermal stress.
    Has VW released an updated revision?(if not, they should, with far bigger components)

    Can someone HELP PLEASE. I have a 1.8t Passat 2003 manual. Car cranks but will not start. I’ve changed out fuel pump, fuel pump relay and fuse. AND TESTED them. All fine. Tested relays and they click. Even when I turn my key to 2 position I hear them click. Battery also dies very fast after charging and cranking a few times. Mind you I’ve been at this for a few months. I know I’m not getting fuel to my lines because when I spray started fluid In my mass air flow sensor it fires up but doesn’t turn over ( engine shakes and stutters). I thought it was my ECU not sending voltage to my relays (took the ecu fuse out, was a little corroded but it made the car crank again once I put it back so it wasn’t the problem ). But I ordered a new one only to get Immobilizer activated on my dash after installing it in the ecu box under the hood driver’s side.. I thought it was the auto theft system being triggered by me changing fuses or the relay but idk why that would prevent fuel pump from priming... Also my passenger side window is broken ( window half way down) I don’t know if that would trigger my car to not recognize my key or what not. I have the battery light, check engine, ecp on my dash. I’ve also changed spark plugs and tested my starter and starter relay. All fine. ( fuel pump relay and starter relay click ). Still no luck. I charge my battery ( becuase car has been sitting for a while and I can only crank it a couple of times before it dies again.... im going to buy a fuel pump control module to see if they would be the fix. Again, fuel pump not priming, no sounds coming from it. The new or old one.... would the fuel pump module make my pump have no power? Any answers??

The symptoms for my car were engine was turning off wile usually I was coasting.Error code P2293. After the engine turns off it usually starts easy and was working until the next time it happens again. Nightmare. Thanks Humble Mechanic!

    I have a 2010 passat 2.0T that after stopping or idling for too long, shuts off after trying to accelerate and I have to coast to the side, the battery is on and fine but the engine shuts off. It takes a few tries to restart sometimes but then runs smooth until it decides at a random stop, to do it again. It will also do this if idled for like 10-20 seconds. Could this be the issue? Or is it the fuel pump itself?

    • @terrymoss7127

    • @SilentMott
      @SilentMott 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It was in fact the pump control module for me. It was a quick fix, for around 150 bucks. It COULD also be a bigger issue with the internal pump itself I've heard so cross your fingers its not that. I also had a water pump fail on me not 2 weeks later which cost me 700, ain't ownership fun? I'm definitely learning to keep a MUCH closer eye on my car these days, it seems like a part of VW ownership. Good luck.

    Thanks for this as well as all of your other videos. Your comment at 3:25 is gold - "remember you have to have power going into it and out of it". Diagnose - don't just replace parts. We'll see if it fixes my GTI or if it is one of the many other parts of the fuel system. Apparently, KISS is not found in the VW engineering vocabulary.

    Thanks, Charles, @Humblemechanic, I've been watching for years! I could smell something burning from the back of my car and of course, it was the FPCM. I am ready to install BUT where do you recommend relocating the heatsink module in a 2012 VW CC? I don't want it to catch fire or anything, especially since it's right on top of the fuel tank. Crazy design BUT your time, effort, support, and energy are appreciated!!

    I am VERY appreciative of all the videos and information. I'm 99% sure I've fixed this problem just by replacing this part. We've only driven about 20 miles, but so far all is well. :-)
    Does anyone know the differences in the versions? I had "F" version that failed. I bought a new one that was supposed to be version "H", even says "H" on the box that I received, but the PART says "G". What gives, and what's the difference?
    Our symptoms were: Stalling at idle only, then progressed to stalling while driving at low speed. At first it would start right back up, then it got worse until it required several attempts to start. At this point CEL was on and code was P2293. As an experiment and to help troubleshoot the problem, I raised the back seat and applied an evaporative cooling towel to the module. I believe it helped me get home on the last drive before parking and waiting on the part to arrive.

    I have a 2010 VW CC and it is having misfires on cyl 1 and P2293. I have read that it could be anything from the low pressure fuel module, hpfp, to the thrust sensor? How would one troubleshoot between all these parts failing and find the actual culprit?

    Hello does have this part something in common with measuring/calculating of the fuel temperature? I have 2010 EA888 engine (1.8 TSi) and my VCDS in group 106 contains value "Fuel Temperature (Calculated)" which shows me values about -50°C (yes minus 50 Celsius, ie. about minus 60 degrees Fahrenheit). Any idea if there is some coincidence? I have some problems with very rough cold starts. I also noted error P0087.

    I love this series and your videos in general, but you have a bit of a bad habit of saying that you'll place links to certain things in the show notes and/or description. . . and then not doing that. I can search for your other video on the in-tank fuel-pump and the ShopDAP video on the pump module, but it'd be more convenient if they were linked here.

    I just fell victim to a faulty FPCM... In my case it melted & caused a short circuit, causing the fuel pump to be constantly running at high speed, even after the engine was turned off and doors locked!! The factory-installed was revision F from Romania, current revision is J from China, with a metal heat sink exposed on the big flat side. I disconnected the battery for the time, until I purchased one from the Stealership & replaced it as DIY.

    Is it safe to cut one of the wires that go to the fuel pump (the positive if can be found), to add a relay driven by an alarm?
    Or maybe this can cause a change in the circuit (even if a relay is just a switch) and as a consequence demage the "regulator"?

    Hi, my car dies randomly it has code n762 mechanical failure, replaced the high pressure pump and still not working... after searching the fuel pump relay gives 9 volt and no start, after switching some times the key and then it give 11 volts to the pump and then it starts. After a few meters driving it dies and it shows 9 volt again. No heat from the module or something. And if the car runs its like normal... is there a way too measure the modul? (Car battery is good)

    My VW CC 2009 Sports has been acting funny and now it won't start. I was only having the P2015 intake manifold check engine light and was driving fine. Even though i planned to replace the intake manifold and runner position sensor. The No start looks more like a fuel pump issue. It cranks and behaves like its about to start, but wont start. It looks like its the engine is starved of fuel. I checked the load reduction relay and the fuel pump relay. I want to check the transfer feul pump to see if i get supply to that point but wasnt able to take out my seat to make room. However, i become discouraged as i started getting different check engine lights; P0444 Evap emission system purge control valve circuit open came first, then P0030 H02S Heater Control circuit bank 1 sensor 1, then P2294 fuel pressure regulator 2 control circuit. Then my front window driver side started malfunctioning, whenever i try to crank, the window rolls down a little and kept doing that, then it would not raise up more than the level it rolls down to if i try to raise it with the raise button. It oprerates up and down but just wont go up beyond a certain level. I hear relay click when i operate other windows but i dont hear for this window but it operates. Another thing i noticed is that even if i disconnect the window raise relay, the window still operates. All these make me just think the ECM might be malfunctioning and discouraged me from even making the effort to check fuel transfer pump

I check the control module but it's not very hot and it looks in very good condition. Also the cam follower has a little damage on the black bottom. nice video man. I have an 06 passat 2.0T. with extreme rough idle. I have codes P2539, and P310B (both codes are low fuel pressure sensor codes.). Can this fuel pump module cause these codes. I get around 700psi at idle, and around 1250psi at 3000rpms at the fuel rail pressure. Is that normal? And the low fuel pressure sensor stays at about 1.9volts at either idle or 3000rpms. I will really apressiate your advise. I'm a little lost here.

    I'm having a problem with cold starts in the morning. My engine idles very rough until it's fully warmed up. I already did a intake valve cleaning with walnut media however it made no difference. Could this module be an issue? Already replaced coil packs, Spark plugs, pcv. Any ideas would be appreciated. The colder the day the worse it misfires when starting from cold.

    Hello, I have 2010 CC and I have been getting misfires. I had VW dealership change spark plugs and clean up fuel system. Now my car keeps jerking when its being driven at steady rps anywhere between 1000 to 3000. If I accelerate it does that fine. I have no codes whatsoever. I read that i might have bad ignition coils so I ordered R8s and it still does the same thing. The "jerking motion" is more noticeable when engine is cold, once it worms up it is little less but still there. Could this be a problem? A lot of people saying it might be carbon build up in intake valves but my engine has 55 000 miles and since i have been owner for about a year now I have always put 93 gas in it. Any ideas?

    My 2008 Passat LUX recently started just cutting out after being driven around 30 minutes. After sitting for ~45 minutes, it will eventually crank. If trying to crank too soon, there is a rough sputtering sound. The symptoms seem very similar to the I will try to get the codes checked soon, to see if if matches the common codes for this issue as well as if there are other issues.
    If the control module is overheating, is it a definite sign the CM needs to be replaced? I now think I should look at replacing the fuel filter (173,000 miles on it). Is it possible that a fuel filter full of sediment would cause the CM to pulse more often and overheat. So, basically has anyone seen a partially plugged fuel filter be the cause of the CM overheating?
