  • Customer came around for me to check his 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV brake system service required warning message and check brake pads which i found front left was wearing very thin.
    Then things got a bit more interesting when I came to change the brakes pads , where we replaced the front left brake caliper .
    I will be uploading videos here regularly sharing my experiences working around cars on my driveway, exposing issues, auto repair, auto electric, oil changes, services, projects and more...
    Cheers 👍

    It's nice to see a mechanic paying so much attention to detail. This is the way it should be done.

    Thanks for that.. Brakes stuck on on my Outlander on front drivers side. Just spent 2 hours trying to get the wheel off (stuck on) and back off the brakes.. I noticed the difference in thickness of the brake disk..I thought the inner one had worn ..lol.. !!

    Nice vid mate, be careful with brake fluid dripping on new pads - had a long time investigating poor brake power on MOT and finally find out that brake pads got brake fluid on them once bleeding was done causing brake material to be baked somehow, acted like a slider, not braked as it should.

    Glad to see the detail and proper pin orientation! I emphasize this because no one else does.
    Keep an eye on the bearings exposed to excessive heat! Top piston failure can be from gases released from old brake fluid when it boils.

      Cheers bud , I will check the bearing again on the next oil change … Good to know about the top piston failure 👍👍

      What does that rubber end on one of the pins do?

  • @greggrimer1428
    @greggrimer1428 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you have 71 miles on the guessometer with half a tank showing then brakes are rubbing for sure. I had drivers side caliper seized. Took it apart sanded it with 1200 and put it back, but it was pitted, so at some stage I will change the calipers.

    Good day eh!! Interesting that the disc was thicker on one side than the other. Nice job repairing the brakes Igor. A 'fluid low' message would be nice too!!! Take care!!!

      Cheers Mike the same here maybe a Mitsubishi thing , fluid low would be more appropriate specially for a new driver 👍

    I've never seen that with the disc either mate... very strange indeed... im guessing they can't be skimmed...top work on the brake job !!!

      I don’t know if it’s a Mitsubishi thing but definitely new to me mate 👍 cheers 🍻

    Good brake job mate. I have seen cheeper discs with a wider gap in the middle of the disc, having two thin sides to it. Less metal to keep the cost down. I would think it may warp easier than a thicker disc.

      Good to know mate , this Mitsubishi one was weird never seen it before 👍🍻

    HEV’s & EV utilize far less friction braking of course as a benefit of regenerative braking. Resulting in far less wear. Down side is apparent here as that low cycling rate might make piston’s prone to seizure. Interesting. Cheers Igor. 👍

      I had a Toyota Auris with over 100k the other day MOT check , and brake pad wear was minimal I mean about a mil it’s impressive … I have quite few customers with hybrids vehicles I’ll be reporting back any more caliper issues 👍

    A good brake job is always satisfying. I've seen plenty discs thin on one side couldn't tell you why tho🤔.

    What kind of cars do you normally work on? Evdrything you thought was odd is completely normal on almost everything ive worked on. I didnt wanna judge by your accent but the only thing i can think of is US regulations versus where you are. If youre in the US i dont understand the differences.

    Brake fluid is never low it just goes down when the pads get worn or if you have a leak

    This is a fantastic video. I need to replace the caliper on the same model. Please tell me where you bought the refurbished caliper from.

    • @ColinCarFan
      @ColinCarFan ปีที่แล้ว

      I can answer my own question for anyone who wants to change the caliper themselves. After buying what was stated as an OEM refurbished caliper for £73 from ebay (it was actually just a poor pattern copy) I bought the PAGID one from euro car parts. More expensive at £103 but it is a higher quality, refurbished, genuine mitsubishi unit and also comes with new copper washers for the banjo and new bellows/seals for the sliding pins.

    So would it come on after changing the front pads? We had to change ours yesterday and today when I got in it, stepped on the brake the service light came on? Now I got brake fluid bc it does look low. However just wondering what else it could be if the light does not go off? Also our headlights literally go out once every two or three weeks? What could that be? It’s a 2019 outlander
