Shit is weird as hell and is a huge turn off, it’s something my friends have noticed as well. @@peen2804 I agree with you. However, in my experience, most people who bring up WoW are/were WoW players themselves lol. But there is definitely some sort of obsession. Can't blame em though. WoW was THE mmorpg while FF was seen as a weeb and shitty game. They feel the need to evangelize and praise FF over WoW. With the snowflake culture, I feel like that's just a natural byproduct of the positivity and no-BS treatment of the game and community. Shit sucks, but i'd rather have the snowflakes than the dickheads.

    you raised a good main problem with WoW is they keep removing and pasting over old content - the way you can choose an expansion you want to play out of order is absurd, make people play from start to end, make people get connected to the world; even though Cata ruined that regardless meaning old content is still set after burning crusade and wrath now, it's a fucking mess of a game and that's not even talking about the endless treadmill
    when I used to play WoW and new people would ask where to start I couldn't say anything because they'll never experience the game I did growing up with it - I've quit a while ago and have no plan on going back, I've been playing FF14 on and off since 2013 and finally delving into it properly I can't believe it took me this long to get into it, it's incredible.

    I’ve played MMOs for decades but I’ve played FF games for even longer than that. And as much as I appreciate how an 8 year old MMO (starting from 2.0) is actually experiencing massive player growth to the point that the director felt the need to apologize for not foreseeing the exodus from World of Warcraft, the thing I appreciate more is that Heavensward and Shadowbringers have both proven that really great Final Fantasy games can be made and loved in the modern era. For awhile I’d felt like Square Enix couldn’t get out of their own way with really bad spin-offs like All the Bravest or rereleases of classic games done in ways that people don’t like or the tortured dev process of what ultimately became FF15.

    If anyone wants further context for how alive most every aspect of the game is, there's still regular full clears of something called the "Baldesion Arsenal", which is a 56 player raid dungeon from Stormblood & basically the black sheep of the black sheep expansion. Granted you need to join a discord to get in but that was honestly true when it was current because Eureka is a special layer of hell.
    And even outside of the raid all 4 sections of Eureka have active and friendly players there pretty much at all hours who're willing to help out and haul out to the middle of nowhere to revive you. Just be sure to check you're not locked into an instance by yourself as that can happen.
    And I've seen dozens of blind synced runs of Coils popping up in the party finder lately, even ones that will fuck up a group of unsynced lvl 80s, (fuck you Nael!) because they had 0 idea what power scaling was back then and Coils still hits like a truck sometimes.

      From ARR to SB, the game has single-handedly a lot more better stories and writing than a lot of games that came the past decade. Mostly thanks to a lot of trash triple A that were pushed by rushed production lines in the industry, but relatively, FFXIV has always been one of the top-par quality games.

I ended up joining FFXIV the day before Stormblood came out (couldn't play until the next day since the ps4 took forever to download it). It hooked me from day one because I LOVE the story of FFXIV and the community is so kind. I'm allowed to do older content whenever I want. after seeing all your ff14 streams over the past 8-months, ive been wondering when you were going to talk about the game. def not disappointed!! absolutely a banger video, man.
    i started ff14 back in 2015, before Heavensward became a thing, and lv 50 was max lol. Also, yes... making a relic weapon was more than frustrating. I can't even imagine having to do it agian.(for some context: i made the relic weapon at the time for the ninja class i was maining... never touched the class again after HW came out, but have always kept that relic weapon with my retainer for the memories).
    i've come back to the game many times in the last 6 years, and each time i go back, i never feel overwhelmed by the new content. my buddies welcome me back, i have a blast going through dungeons, and continue the story like i never left. it's such a great feeling to know i can always come back and pick up where i left off, with the feeling that no time as ever been passed between. ff14 was and still is my very first mmo. That won't be changing anytime soon either. one more side note: this was also my first PS4 game i got as well. what made me want to try an mmo for the first time and it also being my first big next gen experience? well, it's like you said during the video. being able to play on console was the selling point, along with it having the FF name, and when i was gamestop the box cover of the blackmage caught my eye and thought that it was a badass looking set of gear lol. I have loved my time with the game in these recent years.

    Talking further about Sastasha, one thing that I really like about it is it brings players both old and new together in having no idea what they’re doing. New players are doing their very first dungeon and everything in there is new to them, obviously. Old players are suddenly synced down to level 17 with only about 5 abilities at their disposal, playing their class in a manner they either haven’t played in a while, or very well have never played in the case of changes via expansions or classes that start at later levels. You feel like a noob in Sastasha no matter who you are, and I think that helps bring players together.

    24:40 Harsh maybe but spot on. As someone who played WoW on and off, experiencing every expansion except Shadowlands because I just couldn't handle the increasing feeling of "YOU MUST PLAY EVERY DAY to even feel like you can access relevant content". Now I'm in FFXIV and it's so refreshing that no matter where I am, what level, what job, no matter what I'm doing, it accomplishes something, even just a small amount of time a day. Running old content on a daily can provide currency I can use on a current job for gear, or just save for when I decide to level up a different job, everything I do in the game feels like it provides something, no matter what expansion of the game it's from. It's been said countless times, but I feel FFXIV respects my time, and allows me to feel I've accomplished something even from a brief play session at the end of a long day, and that's what keeps me coming back.
    WoW on the other hand makes me think my short session one night would amount to achieving a tiny fraction of a percentage of something I need to do to access the start of the treadmill that they want me to get on, yet makes me have to run through an entire obstacle course backwards and blind folded to even reach. Why would I subject myself to that?

    As a person who played WoW from day one and also bought FFXIV 1.0, then came back for ARR I do have to say that there is one thing that has been consistent in FFXIV since the 2.0 launch. I've said this before: FFXIV would still be a great game (story-wise) even if you removed the MMO aspects (perhaps replacing player parties with the Trust system or something like that). The story itself stands on its own, and the MMO parts just enhance the overall player experience while never being a replacement for story-driven content.
    I also firmly believe that keeping PvP as a side-element nips the potential build-up of negative player interactions in the bud. There is no world-pvp, so players can't gank each other and build up toxic resentment that way. There is no story-based faction animosity, either. What PvP there is is presented as literal training and friendly competition.

    • @roetheboat1
      @roetheboat1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the "revolutionary" part of PvP that FF14 implemented is that it's basically completely isolated from PvE. You have a completely separate set of attacks and abilities from what you have in PvE. I genuinely think this is a fantastic idea because it allows for classes to be balanced for PvE without completely screwing over the balance in PvP, and vise-versa.
      I don't know of any other MMOs that handle PvP like this. I know there have been lots of different attempts from the other games I've played to try to properly balance (like having a special stat only used in PvP), but none that I can remember that just split a class into the PvP and PvE versions.

    • @Uldihaa
      @Uldihaa 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Now I’m heavily invested into FF14, getting into late Realm Reborn is really fun and sometimes I forget I’m playing an MMO because gameplay can feel like a really satisfying combo based ARPG. If you haven’t started it try out it’s free trial and hit level 40 cause that’s when the ball really starts rolling

    I don’t play MMOs (I’m a niche JRPG gamer even to the point of importing) but that shadowbringers trailer is one of my favorites of all time. That endwalker trailer is crazy as well. Idk if I’ll ever play the game (got a huge RPG backlog and school and work) but can’t say I haven’t thought about it

    14 is most definitely a journey in such a meaningful way, ARR can stutter in the start but man....once it gets going and you have a good FC? Amazing.

    Literally just got the game yesterday, got the complete edition so I've got the latest expansions so I can just keep playing it. I did forget about the subscription, but I think its worth it :) I've been sleeping on this game abit, never really sure if I'd enjoy it. Glad to say just starting the game, I'm enjoying sooo much! Learning curve with the camera controls compared to other games, but dam it looks good and its fun as hell!

      You can enable legacy controls in the settings. It's what I use. Might make it a lot easier for you.

    I think part of what you speak of with WoW of the "used to have those moments" likely were due to playing the game as it was new. I played up until my guild of 10+ years exploded in Legion, we were like a top 1,000 guild (lame humble brag) and I enjoyed it greatly. Stepping away from the game and only going back to it now due to Covid snatching my job returning to it I do feel that tug of wishing there was more.
    There are cool moments I've had of doing solo content (which is what I prefer, unless raiding) and throughout the years before there were moments that were had that I'll always remember, but what you stated is like 92% spot on. Lately I feel the pull of going back to my original server to my original guild (Undead & Fabulous if they see this) and just be able to talk to people again 'cause without people WoW feels....empty. Really I play it to pass the time and because I always felt like an amazing shadow priest.
    The age of the game definitely matters and with your current experiences with people discovering this content comes from them being brand new and experiencing it with fresh eyes, which helps greatly.
    All in all WoW is most definitely in decline and it doesn't help that Blizzard and Activision are going through this shit. Activision definitely made Blizzard worse (just look at Warcraft 3: Reforged as an example), but the harassment cases are something the entire video game industry has a problem with.
    It wouldn't surprise me if this or the next expansion are WoWs last. Which would be a shame as for me WoW meant a lot, had a few relationships due to it, friends and enemies, it was both a place to cause anxiety and escape from it, and it was the place I went to to escape the world as my home life was filled with abuse.

    I think you hit the nail on the head on why my assistant manager left WoW for FFXIV. He was a lifelong player for WoW and, for the last several months, he wasn't enjoying anything Blizzard was doing with the game. He was annoyed that you had to wait several weeks every update just to be able to fly around and a lot of the new content wasn't really worth playing. To him, the game just didn't feel like it respected players at all.
    Then a few weeks ago he told me he was gonna try FFXIV with the meme going around about how great the free trial for the game is. After a couple days of playing, he ended up buying the full game, cancelling his WoW subscription, and hasn't looked back. Every day he tells me about some cool new thing he's unlocked or started doing in the game. Like last night he was telling me about how cool fishing is and how much more interactive it is compared to WoW's fishing. He was even helping me get stuff done faster so he could be home in time to get on some fishing boat in the game.

    I remember becoming so addicted to wow that over the course of 3 years I played no other games but continued to buy them. When the time came for me to quit I turned around and had over 100 Xbox 360 games I didnt even take out of the shrink wrap. So when I played XIV on my PS4 in like 2014 for like a straight month because it came with a free 30 days I was kind of happy to just no life it. When I finished base ARR up to Praetorium the day before my sub ran out I felt like it was a perfect end cap to what I chalked up as just another JRPG on the list of games I really liked. Who knew that that 1 month would be the start of me playing one of my favorite games ever.

    Another great thing about FF14 is that you can do everything on one character. In other MMOs if you want to change class you either need to spend money or make a new character and play all the content again. In FF14 if you want to change classes, or side professions, just go to the corresponding guild and talk to them. Just change your main hand weapon or tool and you're all set to go. Don't like a change they made to the summoner? Head off to the Archers guild and take up the bow, or head to the machinist guild and learn to handle a gun, or hell, head to the botanists guild and go pick flowers, to take up bblackmsithing weaving or goldsmithing and start turning out gear. It's really hard to run out of stuff to do
