- Filmed along the Kings Canyon High Basin Route (KCHBR) in late August - September 2021.
It's been 6 years since I last visited the Sierra Nevada range in California. At that time I was walking to Canada along the Pacific Crest Trail, passing through some of these locations, but I left knowing there was so much more. The vastness made a life-changing impression that has occupied my thoughts across the years. Finally a chance came to go back to the Sierra Nevada and intentionally explore its scarcely visited depths.
This trip came towards the end of a year marked with disillusionment, pain, crisis and loss for so many of us. But after spending 11 demanding and absorbing days in sun-blessed wilderness I feel the warmth of renewed embers again.
When I recently came across this soundtrack by Jon Hopkins, East Forest and the spoken word of Ram Dass I knew what I had to do. I feel it captures some essence of why so many of us hike to heal. I hope it revives your embers if they're going cold. And if it puts you to sleep thats fine too!
I'm thankful to have shared this experience with a fantastic group from DC Ultralight Backpacking whose grit, skill, companionship and humor made all the difference.
More comprehensive KCHBR videos are forthcoming. Namaste y'all ☮️ 🧘♂️

Yes. Well imaged, and well said. We have never met, though we will recognize each other when we meet. Thank you.
A meditator hits the trail. Bravo.
Beautiful! Both the video and the soundtrack!
