    That is a nice design of a shelter and one that I do not believe that I have seen before. I frequently use both nylon and poly tarps configured in different ways as shelter for camps. My wife and/or I often use these configured tarp shelters for either sleep or as a covered gear storage/kitchen area. Will now add this configuration to the setup options as well. Thanks.

    • @lonewoodsman
      @lonewoodsman  6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Thanks Lonnie. I love this configuration especially for winter ( which is when I camp the most ) it is very well suited to having a fire in front. And having the sides semi closed in is nice for shifting winter winds. I'm really glad you liked it and plan on using it. I take it as quite the compliment coming from someone of your skill level. If you look through and find some of my hot tent videos you will see the green tipi I made thanks to your video showing how to make one. So thanks for that and thanks for watching, take care my friend.

    Having the triangle fly is a great touch. Lots of rain or snow, it will help block a lot of weather from coming in.
    It looks like with just a small lowering of the ridgeline, you could really hunker down inside this setup.
    Great shelter idea, great video. Appreciated

    • @lonewoodsman
      @lonewoodsman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Lord-Snowflake Try using just piece of paper at home measured out to the size of your tarp. It will give you an idea of how it will work. Other than that just set it up as you would a square tarp. It will be a little different due to your tarp not being square, but it will still work.

    I’m really loving the versatility of that tarp. An option for nearly every situation with all those tie outs, and being a square tarp. You saved me a lot of time in finding the perfect shelter option.
    I know you’re busy with work, but hope you still can find time to get out.

    • @lonewoodsman
      @lonewoodsman  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah me too man. I had tentsmiths make this tarp just like the old one that I made ( only bigger ). And I found that having all these tie outs really helps out with just about any pitch you can imagine. And yeah work is pretty intense right now, but winter will be here before we know it. Thanks for watching, take care my friend.

    I noticed you talking to Shane Slone about the 1100 para cord Brian. You referred to going to natural cordage. That 550 that you are using is ideal. You don't need an upgrade or downgrade. The only reason for biodegradable cordage is if you are leaving it behind. I liked your Adirondack tutorial. Especially the part about keeping the palms up. I learned that at a young age while building houses. I noticed that your last steak had an angled edge on it. I'm just guessing but I think that you were running out of time and you didn't bother to blunt the edge up on it LOL! Excellent tutorial my friend and I positively love your tarp! I can't say enough good things about it brother. Thanks for the share!

    • @lonewoodsman
      @lonewoodsman  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don't get me wrong 550 is great stuff. The only reason I'm thinking of a change to natural cordage is to be more traditional. I know I can't get rid of all modern materials nor do I want to I just like the traditional look. I can't remember where I learned the palms up tip when hammering, but it is a good one to know. Haha, and your spot on about the stake it was threatening with rain and I was rushing to finish up. Not that it would have mattered I had my tarp and a poncho in my pack. I just didn't feel like hiking back out in the rain, lol. I'm liking this tarp as well, looking forward to my first camping trip with it. Thanks for watching, take care my friend.

      This is my first 12x12 tarp, I'm still getting used to it. It has so much more room than my other tarps. I do love the coverage it provides though. I look forward to winter camping with it. Thanks for watching, take care my friend.

    manufacture of that tarp you are using? Where did you purchase it?

    I like the advice on turning your hand over when placing the stakes. I don't understand why you didn't pull the corner out at the top instead of tucking it back. Takes away from the aesthetics.

    • @lonewoodsman
      @lonewoodsman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually only pull the peak down when the weather is less than ideal. Having the peak down takes away from the view while under the tarp. Thanks for watching, take care my friend.

    What camera are you using? I've seen several misc videos now, yours included, which seem to have a weird static-like noise when someone is speaking. I can only imagine it's the camera, but maybe TH-cam's processing?

    • @lonewoodsman
      @lonewoodsman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm using a canon t5i with an external rode mic. The noise you are hearing in this video is the wind. I just went and checked it. Thanks for watching my friend, take care.

      It a custom design of my own creation. I just sent them a rough drawing of what I was looking for and they made it up for me. If you want I can E-mail you the design I came up with. They should call the tarp The Lone Woodsman, lol. I have a lot of people wanting to get it.

    what is the name of the knots and how did you attach to ridgeline?

    • @lonewoodsman
      @lonewoodsman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the starting end of the ridge line I tied a Siberian hitch and on the other side was a truckers hitch. Attaching the tarp was done with two prussic knots and two toggles. I have other videos showing how to tie each of the ridge line knots. Thanks for watching, take care my friends.

    OMG, @ 6:28 stepping all over that poor tarp. I guess if you are camping in your backyard and happen to have $$$ for many tarps that is ok, but for the rest of us.....

    • @lonewoodsman
      @lonewoodsman  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, I wouldn’t call putting one foot in it “stepping all over it”. And I’ll tell ya if a tarp can’t handle me stepping on it without it being trashed I don’t want it. Because a tarp like that is junk and I can tell ya this tarp can definitely handle me putting a foot on it. Thanks for watching.
