Hey! Just wanted to let you know that they make lots of utility shelves with adjustable legs/feet so you theoretically could put shelves on your uneven floors and just adjust the legs to make the shelves level even if the floors are not! I mean, not to encourage additional storage/hoarding, but...

Basement is the worst place to keep photo albums. If you ever have a flooded basement or dampness issue... those photos could be destroyed. For your wedding dress, you can get a special storage box for it. But if you are not planning on saving it for anyone, you can donate it to someone who can't afford to buy one. Awesome job on decluttering!!! Love it!!

Yes empty jars are a challenge when you are a canner. I have to handle and move jars regularly. I am blessed with space for empties. I find they are much easier to manage in their original boxes because then they stack. Also the rims are protected from chipping which makes them unusable for canning. But we can only store what we have room for. I like how you talked through which ones work best for you and let the others go.

It is important that people think about what they keep and get rid of at a time like this! Also people use jars for other purposes now ! I know I do! I use them for spices and remainders of pasta , beans, etc! We have to think differently to reduce waste and take care of our families. This isn’t a criticism but to help others! I have changed how I use things totally in the last year and for the better! I have never liked to waste but now we can’t afford to in many ways! I also use jars for putting up any opened package like cotton or q tips etc because they may have to last a long time if we have shutdowns in this country. They can hold bandages and so many things and they will last almost indefinitely!

@@ImaTChure After you empty your jars then place a lemon slice or two in them once they have been washed well with hot sudsy water! Let the lemon stay in the jar for a few days inside the fridge! Then wash the jar again and place some baking soda in the jar! This works for me to leave that in the jar for a few days and then wash with warm sudsy water again! Never put the lid on the jar again until you are going to use it! This allows air to circulate and they should be fine! Good luck! Remember jars can be washed in the dishwasher but you still have to follow the steps!

@@devwanab2497 sorry...I just edited that...don't know how refrigerated got in there!!!
You can get activated charcoal at a drugstore near vitamins...in capsule form...they're good to take if you are trying to detox your blood and I'm researching for a supplement for the virus...but I wouldn't take if you take medications as it would probably defeat the purpose...
Newspapers absorb odors....also...my Mom used to cover the wood floors before putting down new linoleum because carpenter ants would not cross...I think it was perhaps formaldehyde in newsprint so wash the jars well...
One more....orange/lemon/lime skins any one of them in some water in the microwave for a minute...leave in the microwave to cool...also freshens your microwave after, maybe, burning popcorn or fishy odors....
      Hope that helps!!!

I didn’t even know January declutter was a thing but I have been doing it can’t believe how much easier it is to do things now that I got rid of things

I have more than 500 jars but not all in the house lol . I keep about 100 in the pantry room in case I find stuff on sale in the winter that I can put in jars. I also use the wide mouth jars and I use them for dry storage as well.

You could get a cute basket or something to put in your sitting room to put the throw pillows in so if someone wants one they can get one or you can get one for them instead of having them on the couch or chairs

I have a closet that I've been meaning to declutter but it just seems so hard 😫 but watching your struggle gives me confidence so thanks for that 🤣. And it's so weird I had the exact same sweets container before I got rid of it....at least I think I did 🤦🏾‍♀️

I've learned from many TH-cam videos, its advantageous to film decluttering. I have "lots of material". I have also more recently discovered The Minimal Mom and am working very slowly decluttering and culling unused items. By the way. I'm sure I can out do you in clutter despite having a three person family.

I keep ALL of the jars. I only get rid of chipped jars. You never know when you will need them. For example this past canning season jars were no where to be found. It was extremely hard to get enough for all of the extra canning I planned on doing. 😄

For canning jars. I have enough to be used in a year. So right now I have two boxes of the 1L jars for pickles and 1 box of the 500mL (original boxes they came in) and two boxes of the taller 250mL ones. Which is mostly the ones we have eaten since October(ish). A fee more biggest and smallest ones left since I didn't do fruit or jam this year.

Oooo a suggestion: A kitchen island/or two bookcases back to back with a counter surface on top in the middle of the room with storage shelves/drawers. Then you have a craft area with storage below for your quilting supplies (pick something you can slide the current crates into) and also storage area for canning supplies as well/a resting station for you jars. AND triple bonus, xmas wrapping surface and supply storage. Check out Bernadette Banner for her sewing room table, she did the two bookcases with counter.

You could lay long strong planks of wood from one side to the other, chocked up underneath occasionally for support. Then put shelving on top of them. An uneven floor shouldn't limit your storage capacity.

Try finding a cleaner's near you that preserves wedding dress in a show box. That way it will keep and be compact to store.

I keep all the jars. I love them but also they are expensive. Been canning 40 years. Also...I keep a cleaning tote in my kitchen pantry. It holds 6 empty jars, so once I cook and use them, after they are washed I carry 6 downstairs to canning storage. My pet peeve, empty jars in the kitchen...lol

I buy stuff like your "gift box" stuff to use for gifts when my husband says, "somebody had a baby" or "so and so is leave the job" or a gift for a birthday/ special occasion for somebody I don't know to well (a new neighbor, a co-worker...) You have a great storage space! I love it. But I love the bookshelf more. Great story there! Thanks for sharing.

I never declutter jars!! I can WAY too much to get rid of any. I have a HUGE garden and can as much as possible. When fruits go on sale, I make jellies and when I find meat at my discount grocery store, I pressure can them to save freezer space. Most recent canning project was this week we found 20lb boxes of boneless skinless chicken breasts for only $20!! We bought 3...and I canned two of them

Re: the wedding dress. There are places to donate wedding dresses to, they make them into burial gowns for stillborn and tiny nicu babies that pass away. They make a second identical one for the family to keep.
