  • Liszt Grandes Etudes (S137) no 12 (difficulty rating 8.5/10)
    It's the last etude in the set and ironically also the first one I learned (yes I actually learned the Grande version first!). In this etude we get a mighty "snow drift" aka a huge blizzard that buries everything in snow and ice. It's another quite challenging one that trains jumps (my favorite technique lol) but also endurance. Specifically, since it basically has unending tremolos, it teaches endurance on separated fingers, not for chords. The grande version is pretty brutal in this regard, the jumps are pretty similar to S139 but the tremolos can get pretty terrifying. In this sense I think the S137 version is worth playing to get stronger fingers.
    I feel like I didn't play the first part very well (need some ramp up time as usual) so it's another one I want to revisit sometime later. For now though, this is it for the Liszt S137 etudes (and time for me to go back to the actually manageable S139 ones hahaha)!

    This concludes my series of the Liszt S137 Grande Etudes. Thanks everyone so much for following me on this journey, I've spent a looooong time learning these (and the Transcendentals) and I'm happy to finally post them for everyone to listen to. I realize I'm not that great at all of the etudes sometimes but I do the best I can as an amateur so thank you everyone who still watches and supports me!!

    The "ramping-up" after 2:30 in is actually a really great mood change, intentional or not. Pretty sure it was intentional though

      Yeeee I think that part needs more energy. I like it dreary at first then accelerating into a beeeg storm.

    I don't understand is this a older version or chasse neige that liszt wrote first?

    • @thenotsookayguy
      @thenotsookayguy ปีที่แล้ว

      S.136/12 is the original version of Chasse Neige written in 1826 and vastly is different different to the latter two versions.
      S.137/12 (this one) was a revision of S.136/12 written in 1837, it is pretty similar to the transcendental étude, but still somewhat different.
      S.139/12 is chasse neige, and the most popular version of the 12th Étude. It was written in 1851 and was a part of the final revision of Liszt's études
