In my very personal list He is the first in these categories : singer, composer, arranger, style, elegance and I could keep on writing about Him for days. He's just the GOAT
I remember getting my hands on this album(1978? 79?), playing this, and thinking...holy cow, in this age of glam rock, metal and disco, a young man wrote THIS? FInally, someone posted this so I could hear it again, thanks.
This was my favourite song on my favourite album of his -- A Pauper in Paradise. I always thought this song must have been inspired by George Gershwin's music. I remember reading that after finishing the recording with the orchestra, they stood up and gave him a standing ovation, recognizing that they had participated in something special.
Ohhh Lord have mercy! You have certainly blessed this man w/many gifts. That glorious, exquisite voice... ever improving... even more gorgeous live, on stage. Thank you Father for blessing the world w/the incomparable Maestro Gino Vannelli. I, as but one of many, am eternally grateful.💕🙏💕
This is so wonderful! I'm just astonished that he wrote such a sublime song at such a young age. Thanks for all you do Mary to keep Gino in the consciousness of humanity. Bless you...Jason
the album version of this with the London Symphony is so gorgeous.. check it out. Jazz voicings done by a one of the great symphonies and great artists. Gershwin comes to mind with this tune
Respectfully... Ive lived a lifetime of LOVING Old Blue Eyes. But my "Earth God of Music," who I traveled 800 miles by car in one day to see perform live in Toronto (circa 1990/91)... who Ive been an adoring, unyielding fan of since his debut album "Crazy Life" in 1973... whose music I treasure, memorizing every word & every note... the INCOMPARABLE Mastro Gino Vannelli has created a unique class of music... all his own. NO ONE ever has, or ever will, even come close. Gino's gifts... his all-encompassing talent... the extraordinary compositions that ONLY GINO can compose... & his voice! OHHHHH... that glorious, gorgeous, most exquisite voice has only improved over the decades. And so... in my humble opinion (& I sincerely mean this most respectfully, as I realize & truly appreciate that we all have our own taste), but... Barry White & Isaac Hayes? No. Not even Sinatra came close. These talented artists could only dream of sharing a stage w/the unequalled... the ONE... the ONLY... Maestro Gino Vannelli. As I listen to Gino sing, I feel so truly blessed that he has shared his abundant gifts with us for so many years. Gino is a part of me & has had his own special place in my heart for nearly 50 years. I pray he outlives me. I do. As I cannot imagine my world without him... without his seductive, sultry voice & without his alluring, provocative, most captivating music. I am eternally grateful for the rare beauty of Gino Vannelli in my life. A beauty I never knew before him. A beauty I never... ever... want to live without. 💕 💕 💕
I just saw Gino a couple weekends ago and I was listening to this CD today at work and just am in awe of how beautiful his voice sounds on this song. all the different ways that he has added to his vocal style through the years you can hear so wonderfullly!
V, I am glad you like it. It is one of my favorites. The song is actually from his album "Pauper In Paradise" which was released in 1977. There are some classical arrangements on that album which are fantastic. I really like this live version the best. See, Gino has a side that a lot of people are not familiar with....
Just saw Gino in Windsor Sept 2011 - he still has it! Saw him in Detroit about 10 years ago do this song and he said that the song was about a one night stand that he had in Detroit with a black lady that he met while on tour.
Wow this brings me back. I share the same birth year as Gino and his songs define my love life from back in the 70's when I was trying to define myself as a young man with my emotions. I remember all my old LP's that I would just pop on the stereo kick back and get all wound up inside listening to his albums.
I bought the "Pauper in Paradise" album when it was first released, expecting great stuff...but was not prepared for this song. So moving. There was a video here of him in warmup, I think, nailing it in his dressing room to prerecorded music maybe? It got taken down for some reason, but it was transcendent.
Love on ya G-man...Gemma Inc. Toronto.....saw your 2 Dobermans running around your gated home in Montreal...they are so beautiful...come to visit us sometime...we always miss you...all of us! Gemma Inc. Toronto
I totally agree with you !!! Thank you for the nice comment, it is nice to find others who feel the same way as I do.....No one will ever come close to him......
You have great taste --I've noticed you're a big Gino Fan---I see you pop up a lot while I search for his videos..--I too am A fan.. thanks for the video
"According to a 1976,songlyric-'Love Me Now',Mr. Gino Vannelli's heart was once fractured in pieces: For me, as a woman,at this moment-- this man's songlyrics, are therapy, supposedly."
@RMAchello Yes this is from the Prince and Pauper side B. It is the whole back of the record. I don't what is on the CD but it is on my record from the 70's .
When Gino, sat at his white, grand piano and sang this song, he looked so sexy and sounded so fine, I remember, being temporarily paralyzed and sweating, until the song was over! Lord that Man had it going on !!!
@repelghosts Gino will be in concert in Quebec City on Oct 28th and in Montreal on Oct 29th, go to GINOV.COM for ticket information...Have a great day !!!
I think that note at 1:43 is an insult to Gino Vannelli. He writes big luscious music with one of the best voices in modern music.. He's not just "add a pleasant voice to John Travolta"..

The whole album of "A Pauper in Paradise" is exceptionally brilliant.
Una canzone, un capolavoro, qualcosa che rimane sospeso nell'aria, come le stelle. Che dono che ha dato Dio a Gino Vannelli....
No one compares to GV...he's an enigma of sound and genius. NO ONE!
I remember getting my hands on this album(1978? 79?), playing this, and thinking...holy cow, in this age of glam rock, metal and disco, a young man wrote THIS? FInally, someone posted this so I could hear it again, thanks.
I can't believe how good this song is ~ His voice is not of this world......
This was my favourite song on my favourite album of his -- A Pauper in Paradise. I always thought this song must have been inspired by George Gershwin's music. Loved this song for decades, this is an incredible live performance of it, what a singer, what a remarkable voice.
This was one of those albums I listened to all the time in college. Incredible!!! I am so glad I've found it again.
Wow! The album version is sublime and I thought untouchable…. This is much better than I would have thought. ( love the crowd reaction!)
This song gets me everytime! So beautiful.
