Surprise Catch at Tifft Nature Preserve! (Buffalo, NY fishing)

I decided to try fishing at Tifft Nature Preserve (local known as Tifft Farm) in Buffalo, New York for big largemouth bass. I only landed two small largemouth bass but I caught a decent sized bowfin which is a rare catch in Western New York. I also caught a big brown bullhead at the end on live bait.
At the end I included some drone shots of the historic grain elevator on Buffalo's Outer Harbor.

fished that spot a lot as a kid before it was Tift farm , never saw a bowfin just lots of crappie and big pike that would come in there to spawn

Yrs ago when I was a kid. Use to stock the back ponds with trout and could catch nice crappie in the front pond.

Nice Bowfin. My wife and I went there last year to check it out. I saw a couple huge largemouth and some really nice big carp. There’s a small bridge at the end of where you are allowed to fish and that’s where I saw them.

Nice, unfortunately I didn’t have time to walk down that way. I’ll have to try that direction next time, Tift has a reputation for having big fish that are hard to catch haha

Grew up fishing Tift farms and small boat harbor. Stopped there with my niece couple years ago, caught a 5 pound largemouth on whopper plopper

Some of the Indian folks in Buffalo will take home and eat fish from the most polluted water bodies ever. Personally I wouldn’t dare but all the power to ya (as long as it’s not my precious bass)
