@@crazitaco National media, maybe. I worked for a local affiliate in Corpus Christi and they had us all stay in the station...... the station had a leaky aluminum roof that wasn't even safe to walk on. They basically stuck us in a shed..... and then the executives evacuated.

Edit: my house is destroyed, the water was up to 3 feet 😭 I had to blow up a boat and float to the freeway so my cousins could pick me up , it was the scariest time of my life , I was just sitting down and water just starts gushing inside and we had no control of it 😭 but I'm safe now at my aunt's house . I don't know what's gonna happen to my house😭😭

Im in Houston it's barely rained so far, not sure if we'll get much of anything besides flooding in the usual areas.
Once your wooden hut has gone build a real home, with bricks and mortar. Not difficult, just look to the third world for tips. Everyone in the world lives in houses, but in USA they think that cardboard boxes with wooden struts is enough. THEN they want to get on the news for being 'brave' for staying alive.
Of course- they are a merry can (empty noise).
Sitting here watching this on my computer is as close as I ever want to be to a hurricane.....sending constant prayers to the folks in the effected areas

Great footage Reed! For those not familar with hurricanes a CAT4 is the equivalent of having a strong EF2-EF3 tornado just sit on top of you for like 2-3 hours.

Oh heck no I live in Houston Texas and we still don't even know if we are going to get hit with the hurricane
* Mimi * We are.. Harvey is going to go back over the gulf and come towards us but the reason why we haven't seen anything is because it's moving slow. We won't get hit until Tuesday and Wednesday of next week but we will see rain everyday until about Thursday the 31st. Stay safe.
After it hit Corpus it went aways but the heavy tropical rains are gonna go through out Texas.

Much more likely to be power lines crossing in the wind, one ziggs while the other zaggs and we have contact. A transformer blown would be accompanied by an orange oil burn fire as they are oil cooled on the inside, maybe 5 gallons in the smallest, 200 in the bigger ones. Just blue means arcing only.

Last year we experienced hurricane Matthew and the sounds were terrifying. We would have died in that thank god the eye tilted by 50 yards bck into the water if that didn't happen we would of flooded all the way out just like Katrina. God help Texas I hope not to go through a hurricane again.

I wish no one had to suffer with things like this. It truly breaks my heart.
However, our universe, a persons preferred god/deity's, and the weather on our planet are indifferent to the needs, desires, and sufferings of what we as humans face.
When it comes down to it, humanity can only rely on itself, and each other to survive and improve the world we live in. No one is capable of prolonging our lives or our future but ourselves. 100 years ago this storm wouldve been far more catastrophic because we wouldn't have been able to see it coming and allow people to seek shelter or to head to a safer area.
We need to start to rely less on beliefs and more on each other. Only then will humanity stand any chance of surviving long enough to reach the unfathomable potential we have as a species. We could one day, if given enough time, become greater than the gods we once created. We just have to mature ... a lot!!!
There are going to be plenty more hurricanes, and stronger ones at that. All because of global warming.
We've got the same problem here in Houston right now (9:50 pm) except we're receiving the tail end of the hurricane which is now more rain-potent, but no wind. However, the lightning has been striking every foot of land here.

Dee Tee - Those who stayed said there was one tornado after another, as well as the wind and rain. Some had to dig themselves out of collapsed houses. Rescuers could not come and it's doubtful they had a phone signal for calling 911.

One of my clients told me her and her husband stayed behind in a mobile home and it was the worst experience in their lives. She had 4ft of water in her mobile home and was unable to leave the city they closed down all the roads up until Harvey was to make landfall

So to put is in perspective to all the people who say this looks pretty calm, at peak intensity Hurricane sandy was a category 3. Katrina was a category 5 at peak intensity. This, so far, is a category 4. Good luck to you Texans in the path of this force of nature.

There is a large barrier island that sits on the Gulf of Mexico, then a bay, then Rockport and other towns. There were also lots and lots of trees and most are NOT palm trees. Most are oaks that are accustomed to constant wind. In many places, there are houses and businesses between the main part of town and the waterfront. There are concrete breakwater structures lining much of the waterfront.
There's the barrier island, then the bay, then a narrow strip of land with concrete pavilions and and concrete picnic tables and stuff bordering the bay, then a smaller body of water, then trees, houses, and businesses, then the 4 lane Hwy. 35, along which many businesses and most hotels sit. All between the Gulf of Mexico and the places shown in this video. How much more of a windbreak can you get?
Look at the pole dancer and the two vehicles body rocking! The hurricane is about as hard as some of the rap music in Texas. Most Texans probably don't know that Texas has some of the most violent rap music in the world stretching from 1987 to the present, but especially the 90s and half of the 2000s. Houston, TX. I have lived in the upper midwest my whole life, but I hope to experience a hurricane first-hand someday.
