In the 1980's my parents bought a very old home radio from the 1920's and this was the station it was set to when I plugged it in. Thanks for uploading this..it brings back found memories growing up in Idaho .

I started listening when I got my Grundig in 1977. By then the voice was saying Coordinated Universal Time. I had forgotten all about those weather bulletins. I haven't heard those in ages. This was very interesting.

Thank you for sharing this! I remember later on they changed GMT to UTC, the station was awesome nonetheless. I was fascinated with world time and Station WWV for years after that, and the shortwave radio my parents gave me for Christmas 1975 was one of the best presents ever.

A very nice 1972 videotape…so nice to be done with a home videotape recorder…. I suppose it’s still magnetic reels and vidicon tube camera. The scene seems to be shot in the dark, but I’m sure the room was plenty of light…. Is just the video quality you could get with those vidicon tube cameras in that time…. Thanks for share!

Is that WWVH underneath WWV? I thought I hear Jane Barbe’s voice somewhere past the halfway point.

Thank you for sharing, interesting the solar flux report at minute 18, it has special interests for me because I was born four days after that recording.

Cool. When I got into SWLing around 1981, he was announcing Coordinated Universal time. I would check my watch and clock and by it regularly and adjust when needed. What was cool was when I could hear the female voice of WWVH under it. That told me there was an opening to the Pacific. One night when this happened, I was able to tune into FR3 Tahiti on 15170. I have the QSL card to prove it.

WWV, WWVH, LOL and all other time signal stations on shortwave are the coolest radio stations ever. The only problem is VNG quit transmissions in September of 1987 and JJY also left the airwaves.

This is approximately when I started tuning in to WWV. Felt 'different' when it changed to UTC from GMT.

I understand the nostalgia, but far prefer the richness, cadence and meter of
"Coordinated Universal Time" as the successive words drop syllables.
And the phrase, to me, conveyed an epic grandeur, making Fort Collins the center of the cosmos; a place were great Starships from across the galaxy would pause overhead, set their clocks, exchange yarns and gossip with pink-footed blobs from Betelgeuse and 5-head whatsits from Polaris...

I'm curious how much that Portapak cost in 1972. I assume that was expensive tech at the time.

Thank goodness Audicy or iHeartRadio never got their hands on WWV. they would have flipped the format to brokered religion.😮

Less than a year after their drastic format change. No more Morse code, all voice announcements.
