- "Reasoning man tried to stamp out the beliefs of his forefathers, he failed. Witchcraft is with us today."
Classic BBC documentary, narrated by John Darren, investigating the cult of witchcraft in Wales, produced by the Wales Today unit.
Self confessed witches describe their powers and the reasons for their beliefs. A coven of witches practice a fertility ritual around a blazing bonfire for the BBC cameras. Reverend WD Williams - a lifelong student of witchcraft - elaborates on some of the strange powers witches wield, and shares some of his own experiences.
NB: The original audio on this track had degraded quite severely, so some minor restorative work has been done in an attempt to make it more audible.
Clip taken from Witch!, originally broadcast on BBC Television, Tuesday 23 June, 1964.

In my village way back in the 60`s were 2 witches/old healing ladies .
Folk used to drop off grown produce to their doors .
I had bad colic when I was 8 , was off school 10 weeks
could not keep anything down , not even milk it came back up
in a solid lump. I lost lots of weight .
My Pa went to call on Isoline , she came and put a gathering of plants on my pillow
and made me drink a honey type drink .. which I kept down .
I was back in school the following week .
What a treasure the BBC is. Thank you for posting another fascinating and insightful video.
It’s not real!
Except it’s not on the bbc is it. It’s on TH-cam. They make us pay for this content and then we end up watching in on third party streaming platforms, like the way all the best bbc natural history shows in are Netflix etc
@@jimferry6539 I refuse to pay for Netflix or Amazon prime, If it isn't free I don't watch it.
The government's propaganda machine you have to pay for.
If you like this might watch Jimmy Saville, the BBC legend.
Darker than you would think.
At times, yes.
@@patriciahayes2664 that is nothing to celebrate.

I didn't believe in witches until i saw Angela Lansbury fly. She was also not Welsh.
Angela Llanberis ;)
She was after the chem trails.
Well done I knew I was paying my TV license for more than Strictly !
Typical Friday night in Upper Cwmtwrch.
😂😎😂
Sounds like Oliver Postgate narrating a banned episode of Ivor the Engine.
Dai Station rips Mr Dinwiddy's heart out and summons Baphomet.
That vicar knows a bit too much bet he's dancing round a fire later 😐
Lovely gem xx Of course it's Pembrokeshire, my home county 😂😅😂....
They turned me into a newt!
I got better.
9:40 This lady's voice reminds me of Lynda Snell...
It's impossible to go to Wales without bumping into a witch.
😂
In March 1964 the film Witchcraft was released in UK cinemas (its on YT).
The Welsh went easy on witches during the Middle Ages only hanging 5 in total, England hung about 500 & in Scotland it was over 3000. 🤣
Which is utterly shameful considering there is no such thing.
Clearly a lot of people believe otherwise. If people state they are witches, it’s patronizing to insist it is not because we don’t define witchcraft that way nowadays.
@@tonicastel2390 These days it’s just another religion, Murdering harmless people because of Christian fanaticism is shameful,
And obviously magic isn’t real.
The Scottish Goverment finally apologised and posthumously pardoned those poor woman. There is a plaque at the spot where they were murdered.
@@jonathanlandau-litewski7405 That is nice to know.
My decodings should help.
Daft of the BBC not to Clean-Up the audio before posting🙄

Hope they checked the eyebrows on the guy at 0:30 for signs of witchcraft.

😂 yes Dear!
😵💫👾 MK it's not just for breakfast anymoaargh
Hawarden had a witches coven in the 1960s. A censer and candles and red robe were stolen from the church and the burned candle stubs brought back.
I enjoyed this.........Thanks..........
Witches in Suit and Tie, brilliant...❤
What a blast from the past
Well, there wasn't much else to do. 🤷
I think that a witch cult / witchcraft movie set in remote rural Wales would be great, anyone know of any movies like that ? either more modern setting (e.g. The Wickerman) or older times (The Witch (2015)) ??
I've not actually seen it myself, but on my watchlist still is Gwledd [ or The Feast].
Might be one for you to watch
I have too many suggestions, but I highly recommend Lord of Misrule, The Blood On Satan's Claw, Robin Redbreast, The Ritual, Apostle and Kill List.
@@mumfnah I was looking at The Feast, it got a very average Imdb score but you never know it may have 'something'.
@@PlagueCabaret Thanks, the only one on that list I've seen (and liked) was 'Kill List' - it's not a Welsh witch movie but the ending was great although predictable when the scene started.
Yes Darklands (1997) was literally that (but its not terribly good !)
Wales was poor but its people were so pretty looking and soft spoken!!! Maybe poverty and beauty go hand in hand 🤔 ?
How pompous and affected she sounds, just another ego construct trying to find a meaning in our fleeting existence. Did like the earthy essence of the group rituals though.
What is wales rife
Its saying the area of Britain called Wales is rife or has many witches.
