    Scottie is soo under-rated. He wasn't just MJ's sidekick who could play defense, Scottie was the whole package he could play against any position on defense, he had Carmelo Anthony like offensive game meaning he could score by shooting, driving, and posting, he was a terrific rebounder, great in transition especially with passes. He was the NBA equivilant of a 5 tool player

      Karl Malone:" If i had to start my team with one player it would be Scottie Pippen"..not micheal. From a breaded basketball player's perspective in myself. Its wrong that people only talk about how great of a defender he was. All Scottie Pippen did offensively as super star was adapt to the roster. Micheal took a lot of shots, and in a league that played far more system basketball back then. Scottie sacrificed his shot attempts for the better of the team/to keep others in rhythm. This wasn't about Pippen not being a natural born killer offensively. It's usually the more well rounded gaurd that has to take the so called back seat, because he can do other things. John sally: "Scottie Pippen was the most skilled player I've ever played with ". Steve kerr: Scottie could score only 4 points..and still dominate the game. I'd take pippen over jordan myself, ask me why..instead of just calling me crazy. I speak of things most ppl don't talk about.

    Scottie Pippen would dominate todays league and probably be Lebrons worst nightmare.
    They just dont make players like Pip these days.
    A true warrior of his era.
    Pippen defined what "all around" is all about.
    There was not a catergory in the game of basketball that he didnt excel at.
    And he may be the greatest wing defender in history and he knew how to navigate his freakish wingspan like a hawk searching for prey.
    No disrespect to Lebron, but if 1991-92-93-94-95-96-97 primed Pippen was in the league today, Lebron would be ringless.
    Great floor vision like a point guard while owning the wing at the same time.
    He was an expert at BOTH sides of the floor.
    And he could score in everyway when needed.
    He very well could of averaged 28 to 30 points per game had he not been unselfish, as he got his teammates more involved which is key to success. Great leader and favorite to his teammates.

      People laugh at me and ridicule me, but if I'm selecting my best starting 5 all time in their prime, the small forward spot belongs to Pippen every time. And Lebron isn't even in my top 5 small forwards. I'm taking (in no particular order) Kawhi, Bird, Dominique, Durant, before I pick Lebron.

      Even tho listed as a SF, I would have him play PF a lot due to him being 6"8' and the lockdown defense to easily guard good and big PFs, but for arguements sake, let's look at other SF's. I love Scotties game, but that statement was just stupid. Because people like LeBron, KD, Elgin Baylor, Larry Bird or even somebody like Kawhi Leonard are living on this planet, there's no way you should say that "he is the best by far".

    Pippen was truly a beast. To be able to do the things he did under MJ and still create separation and step on his own light... unbelievable. As much as I love watching the Bulls during the golden era, I frequently ask myself, what personal accomplishments would have Scottie conquered had Seattle kept him.

      We will never know, but in some biography books about MJ, Jordan was so hard on Pippen during his early days. Him and Jackson so much talent on him, and Jackson actually made Pippen battle Jordan everyday in practice. Scottie plays with the main team while Jordan plays on the other. When one team wins, they run around the gym. It came to a point that Pippen's team started to win and there you have a developing Pippen. To battle against Jordan everyday honed his skills like crazy. Pippen and MJ were just the best under the triangle by Tex Winter.

    What I've always admired about Scottie (besides many other talents of his) were his hands. He's been blessed with really big hands, maybe almost as big as the ones of C-Webb, but at the same time Pip has found his way to maintain their quickness, and that multiplied by his ability to equally use either made his game a real beauty to watch in terms of handling, passing, rebounding, blocking, shooting those Js or finishing at the rim.

  • @FuglyFatt

    With all the debating and arguing over the past decade about Lebron vs Jordan, most of these people forget that if the Jordan/Pippen Bulls actually played the Lebron Cavs or Heat, Lebron would be matched up against Pippen, not Jordan. And, I think that Pippen would have the edge. He would shut James down on D and make him work his ass off on the other end. In a 7-game series, James would be cramping by the 2nd half of game 2. To make things worse, the Bulls would also switch Rodman on James every now and then which would all but make him a non-factor in this hypothetical series. I don't care if Wade is 110% or if Bosh is playing to his potential and Ray Allen is shooting 100% from 3, the 96-98 Bulls win 9 out of 10 series against the 10-13 Heat. Against this year's Cavs and any of James' other years with CLE, that number becomes 10 out of 10.

    • @anthonyrose7103

      Your right man....100%. The only current player who would have a chance in the 80's and early to mid 90's and still be an elite player is a prime Kobe Bryant, talking about the 2 guards and SF positions skill sets. Lebrick would struggle.

    • @tubeathrun
      @tubeathrun 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jay Man I think James could do better on that, Pippen match with James, both of them will make trouble for each other, and both of them could not totally shut down the other one. But I agree, Bulls got Rodman, and Jordan to backup. I think even Wade got 120%, the bulls will find a way to end the game.
      I am a big fun of Scottie, but I think James is also powerful.

      spencer bancroft Maybe. I am back and forth with Magic and Stockton, Jordan we agree on. Bird was awesome and I have no argument there hdonestly because if Pip weren't my favorite player he'd be on my list too (though I think Pip is criminally underrated and could have done a good job guarding him). Duncan is a newcomer to these lists and I understand why but every winning team needs a player like Rodman, he was a force on defense and rebounding so he is on my list by effort alone. I go back and forth on Kareem / The Dream / Russell so I can't argue that.

      spencer bancroft I've always said the same 4 except to replace Bird with Pippen as the 5th. Your list makes sense for the sake of individuals, but the game is based on chemistry and Bird/Jordan would be a conflict on the same team, whereas Duncan, Jabbar, Magic and Pippen could all play their superstar roles while Jordan does his thing..., Bird is one of the all-time crunch time specialists, but so is Jordan, so who is the go-to guy? You cant have both, so what you gain by having both is lost in some ways... the addition of Pippen as the all-time greatest all-around defender is what helped win 6 titles - with two completely different rosters in two trimesters! No DPOY because that award is given to players polarized to their positions, whereas Pippen could defend anyone anytime and was the best team defender ever and fast break defender ever also. Defense is half the game, but people put too much attention toward offense.

      The same amount that Lebron has without Wade and Bosh. Just playing. If Pippen was never his teammate I assume that he wouldn't have retired to play baseball and he would have had a much more difficult time of winning championships. I'll say about 4 rings. Pippen was the first person that Jordan thanked in his HOF speech and from what I could see those two aren't even that close off the court.

    He’s my goat. I started watching the Bulls because of MJ. But when Scottie got his game I started watching because of him. Even when he went to Houston and Portland which I know he was beyond everyone in skill, play and talent. Their he had Smith as his play partner and Damon was trying to be his Robin, and where Scottie made Shremp his Steve Kerr.

    this guy it's great, many people put him in a second place cos' of jordan, but Jordan career wouldn't be anything without Pippen, and he was too inteligent too.

    • @xzxzxccxzcw2028
      @xzxzxccxzcw2028 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nigga if you don't think Pippen's second place to Jordan then you're delusional. Jordan's career without Pippen stepping up would still be HoF. Even before Pippen became an All-Star in 90-91, MJ already had an MVP, 5 All-Star selections, 5 All-NBA selections, 3 All-Defense selections, a DPoY, and 4 scoring titles. He could have never won a ring and gotten into the HoF off that.
      And if you think Pippen could have won a ring without Jordan, then you only have to look at Jordan's retirement season to see how that worked out. They went out in the 2nd round lol.

    lynchie137 It's a shame that after his first 11 seasons with the Chicago Bulls from 1987-88 to 1997-98, where he won six NBA Championships with them in '90-'91, '91-'92, '92-'93, '95-'96, '96-'97 and '97-'98 to be a part of Chicago's 1990s Championship Dynasty,...
    ,...Pippen was shipped to the Houston Rockets in a sign-and-trade for '98-'99, where he played alongside Rockets' franchise cornerstone C Hakeem Olajuwon and the ever-so-talkative All-Star PF Charles Barkley.
    During his one and only season with the Rockets, Pippen averaged 14.5 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game, 5.9 assists per game, 2.0 steals per game, and 0.7 blocks per game while averaging 40 minutes per game in all 50 games played.
    You can really say that his across-the-board stats were still good, but somewhat the scoring is down from his Chicago Bulls glory days. However, Pippen should not have played that many minutes because he just came off his second back surgery after the 1998 NBA Finals (Chicago vs. Utah) ended in a Chicago Bulls series victory over the Utah Jazz, but that was because Houston had no depth at SF with only journeyman 3PT shooter SF Sam Mack and an aging former NBA Sixth Man of the Year and near 40-year-old washed-up scoring machine swingman (SG/SF) Eddie Johnson.
    They should've utilized either Sam Mack and/or Eddie Johnson more to allow Pippen to rest his bad back, but Rudy Tomjanovich overplayed him at 40 minutes per game. So what was the point of playing Pippen 40 minutes per game when he just had a second back surgery and was utilized as the third option on offense behind Hakeem Olajuwon and Charles Barkley? And Pippen seemed to be a more natural fit for Phil Jackson's Triangle Offense rather than being a weak fit for Rudy Tomjanovich's Half-Court Offense imo.
    Only because the head coach of the '98-'99 Houston Rockets (Rudy Tomjanovich) didn't even bother to change up his system (half-court offense) to accomodate Scottie Pippen's true skills (which was as a point forward/leader/lockdown defender) rather than utilizing him as a catch-and-shoot gunner while Charles Barkley and Hakeem Olajuwon remained Houston's go-to-guys on offense/scoring.
    Many media pundits expected Pippen to be the #1 superstar for Houston and Portland just because he was finally outside of Michael Jordan's shadow again, which seemed to be his constant stigma. But his somewhat lack of usage on Rudy Tomjanovich's half-court offense for scoring really indicated that Pippen was unhappy having to be the third wheel to Hakeem Olajuwon and Charles Barkley, especially after having played the role of Michael Jordan's sidekick throughout the glory days of the Chicago Bulls.

    • @FilipoSooaUlufale
      @FilipoSooaUlufale 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      lynchie137 Pippen's lowest point in Houston was with his feuding with Charles Barkley over Barkley's lack of desire to win an NBA Championship.
      Barkley did come close to winning the '92-'93 NBA Championship with the Phoenix Suns though, but still, Pippen accused him of not giving any effort to play on defense, and never watched his weight with his unhealthy food choices overstating his gifted monster basketball talents.
      Barkley's desire to win can actually be misunderstood. When he was with the Philadelphia 76ers from '84-'85 to '91-'92, Barkley blasted Harold Katz (the 76ers' owner at the time of Barkley's 76ers career) for not giving him a great support cast that could go deep into the NBA Playoffs, and so Sir Charles did all he can to get himself traded knowing that Katz brought in players that just couldn't play. Ultimately, Barkley went to Phoenix via trade in the 1992 offseason, and it was in '92-'93 that Barkley won his one and only NBA Regular Season MVP Award.
      Back on point about Barkley: guys like greatest 90s role player Mario Elie and former Trail Blazers and Rockets' megastar Clyde Drexler got fed up with Barkley's clowning around antics, now there are some serious pros who don't want to be around Barkley too much because of his OTT nature.
      And Clyde Drexler was supposed to stay on with the Houston Rockets in '98-'99 instead of retiring after '97-'98. But I think Drexler did retire because of Barkley anyway, and because Drexler's playing style had always been of the athletic dunker type, and with him aging (35-36) he probably retired because we wouldn't see him changing his game from athletic dunker to jump shooter because of age and injuries, although Drexler was still an effective solid starter.

    • @lynchie137
      @lynchie137 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Filipo Sooa Sounds like Sir Charles rubbed a few people the wrong way while in Houston. Perhaps if he were more serious he wouldn't have pissed off his teammates so much and therefore, they would have worked better on the court and generated better results.
      But on the other hand, all the players you mentioned were getting up there, so who knows how much they really had left in the tank to give?

    • @FilipoSooaUlufale
      @FilipoSooaUlufale 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      lynchie137 Even though Pippen averaged 14.5 PPG, 6.5 RPG, 5.9 APG, 2.0 SPG and 0.7 BPG in 40 MPG, that ridiculous minutes average that he had with Houston seemed exactly insane because:
      A) Pippen already came off his second back surgery after the 1998 NBA Finals ended.
      B) Because he was with Chicago from '87-'88 (rookie season) to '97-'98, having so many virtually deep playoff runs probably caused Pippen's eventual statistical decline 97/98.
      C) The '98-'99 Rockets had no real depth at SF outside of Scottie Pippen seeing as they only had Sam Mack and Eddie Johnson.
      If anything, it serves me correctly that Rudy Tomjanovich shouldn't have overclocked Pippen for all 50 of the games he started during the shortened season.
      Do you really think Rudy Tomjanovich should've utilized Scottie Pippen on offense instead of leaving him to watch Hakeem Olajuwon (now an aging predictable jump-shooting solid starting Center) and Charles Barkley be the top two guys on Houston's pecking order?
      If anything, should journeyman 3PT shooting swingman (SG/SF) Sam Mack or aging former Sixth Man of the Year winner and veteran SG/SF Eddie Johnson have been utilized more at moments when Pippen's on the bench?
      Have a look at the averages for each player and see who should've substituted in for Scottie Pippen at times:
      A) Sam Mack: 9.2 PPG, 1.7 RPG, 1.3 APG, 0.6 SPG, 0.1 BPG while averaging 20 minutes per game in 0 of 25 games started after being re-acquired by the Vancouver Grizzlies via midseason trade.
      B) Eddie Johnson: 4.0 PPG, 0.7 RPG, 0.3 APG, 0.0 SPG, 0.0 BPG while averaging a feeble 6 minutes per game.
      Should Eddie Johnson have played more as the backup SF to Scottie Pippen, or do you think Sam Mack was the better man to be the main backup behind Pippen?

      @Julius_Paul 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Filipo Sooa But look what Portland did to LA in 2001? if only they didn't miss 13 shots in a row and if they could control Rasheed to stop jacking up misses - he missed 6 of the teams 13 consecutive missed shots after getting a 15 point lead in game 7 against the stacked Lakers... And there were no superstars on Portland and they were on their way to the finals but choked... that's twice Pippen was on a starless team and just missed the final (94 verse Knicks because of referee bad call on Pippen at endgame)... point being is that Pippen was a strong anchor to Portland and the chemistry was great around Stoudamire (mighty mouse)

    Scottie Pippen was so raw, I wish somebody now could play with that much intensity on defense and be a true lock-down defender. He is one of the most underrated NBA players of all-time. In my opinion, he is definitely a top 10 or 15 player of all-time, personally, I rank him at 7 or 8. Cause, if you think of as a pick-up game you are definitely going to want Scottie Pippen on your team and would be about the third or fourth guard/wing-man chosen

    I grew up in Chicago too and my favorite Bulls team in the 90s to watch was the 93-94 squad led by Pippen. That was a contending team that could have won the championship if not for that bogus Hue Hollins call in Game 5 during the Knicks series. It was just a pleasure to watch those guys play and move the ball around like a team should. It was good basketball. Never got that feeling again after Jordan came back. Yes we won three more times, but we all knew acquiring Rodman was the main factor.
