God Bless the greatest generation America ever had. I lost an uncle during the war in the navy. Lost another some years later due to cancer. He served on a ship during testing of a bomb.
When I served at NNPTC in Charleston SC we would take new students on a special tour of the USS Yorktown. We got tours for them from WW2 vets. There was one in particular that would tell stores to the kids of the battles and how they would maneuver. We got to see pets of the ship not on the public tours. There were still some nameplates on equipment that said “Bonhomme Richard” as she was renamed to replace the original Yorktown once she was lost. Amazing stuff.
The special effects in the movie were good but couldn't do justice to the real thing. I was able to watch Iowa exercising her main armament in practice and then 3 years later watched as Missouri and Wisconsin unloaded hell with shots in anger during Desert Storm. I was riding a destroyer when we exercised with Iowa, we could out maneuver and accelerate faster than the bigger ship, but she proved faster than we were even with our gas turbine engines. The craftsmen who built those ships knew what they were doing.
Oddly enough, this scene and music went through my head going into my neighbor's garage to try firing up her snowblower yesterday after it snowed a bunch. As I turned on the lights and got ready to start it up and get the overhead door open to take it out....even started saying "Thun-Der! Uh huh huh huh huh!" as I'm working. I am SUCH A DUCKING WEEB!!
Allô. Dans la famille, nous l'appelons : « La chanson du Missouri ». Quel beau bateau, avec ces lignes et cette quille qui fend l'eau ! Quelle chance de l'avoir à nos côtés ! Quelle génération courageuse !.
I still could fire up the equipment I was responsible for in Engineering on the Big E, CVN 65. (83-88) So yeah the old guys could run that ship in their sleep.
Best generation of brave men, the likes that you don’t see these days. Have you ever wanted to stand up in a movie theater and yell fuck yeah, well this will do it to you.
It will never happen. They tie up too much ressources and are too vulnerable against modern anti-ship systems. The age of battleship was threatened when reliable torpedoes could be deployed from torpedo boats, and it latest was over when carriers could be put to sea in significant numbers... they are a relic of the past. Impressive, yes but outdated
The USS Missouri isn't only battleship that the Navy still has saved, but they're restoring the battleship Texas just in case. Folks there are a lot of the older battleships that have been restored and kept ready in case they're needed, by the way, the ships are keeping their original equipment thankfully because in case of a EMP strike they won't be affected unlike the ones now.
The USN will not be using the USS Texas as we still have two IOWA Class battleships and the yards to make new ones if needed. But it would be to costly to get a WW1 battle ship up to date.
@@grimreaper2625 We still have all FOUR Iowa class plus North Carolina, Massachusetts and Alabama. All of these will need a lot of work to be made ready for sea again, 2 years minimum for the Iowa class, up to four years for the other 3 ships. All seven would need a lot of main powerplant work and need to be rearmed, the guns including the 16" are so old that I wouldn't trust them to fire.
What ship fought in the Desert wars? Can't remember. But seeing the Mighty Mo out in the ocean is spectacular. And the old tech will be able to fight after a nuclear war. The EMP won't damage these ships.
Loved the movie and that skit makes me want to jump and say fu#$ yow. The old salts ready to serve again and the young buck saying "we need to borrow your boat". My dad was a wwll old salt who stayed in the reserves 20 years or more.
A lot of people saying that this ship is outdated, but it’s cannons are still able to do a lot of damage in today’s warfare, and given that there’s only one turret on the rear of the ship, you could put the vertical missile system like we have on some of our modern warships onto the rear of the battleship And you could also add a laser weapon system to the ship that would make it entirely capable in today’s warfare.
It would cost billions to bring a WWII battleship up to combat again. Re learning the how to run it would take years. Then there is the ammo problem or the guns learning how to make it again. I doubt any has been produced for at least 60 years. Not to mention how many sailors say 1500 at least. It was a good silly film but getting a WWII battleship ready to sail would not take hours, more like years.
To sum up this scene, I paraphrase the late Rowdy Roddy Piper from the movie "They Live": We have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass.........and we're all out of bubblegum.
I could really see those old salts showing the new guys how it was done in the real Navy. BTW both the New Jersey and Texas will be ready for the next alien invasion (if New Jersey doesn't go to the Gulf first).
In real life, they actually keep all of our battleships capable of going to war again just in case if we need them. Our battleships are able to deliver a strong below, and they are also able to take a hit while our modern cruiser and modern destroyer naval vessels for example can be sunk with a single tomahawk missile.
I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer, but they cut the anchors for the ship and then use them later on to turn left. I've been to the USS Missouri, the chains are on the left...they cut those anchors off. I know, I know, it's a movie. It is, and a great movie at that, but seriously...continuity.
YA just have to love it big MO's 70 years old and it can still kick alien butt. America biulds monster battleships, they never really go out of style. Nothing else can unload 9 16" cannons on a target those 2000 pound shells are awesome.

This was an amazing scene with old generation working with new generation. Gives me chills every time. God bless the men and women of our military
Those Iowa class battleships! Make no mistake they were a brutal war machine deserving of much respect! God bless my country America!!!
Agreed
Such a pleasure to see one of our War Beasts return! She had her nap...now it's time to go back to work!
God Bless the greatest generation America ever had. I lost an uncle during the war in the navy. Lost another some years later due to cancer. He served on a ship during testing of a bomb.
Our battleships, especially the Iowa class battleships, truly were and are astonishing machines.
watchin the old guys bring the battleship back to life - was worth the price of admission ,
mad respect!
They maybe old but the design and quality of workmanship in the battleships is breathtaking if you stop and take it in , like breath of freshair.

best scene ... great ship ... only old guys can handle it ... like an real lady ... time to play with the big boys ....
Good to see results and respect payed to ship that surely has earned it!!!
The "Mighty Mo"!
Glad to see the men who surely look like they served in m past in believable positions.
Because they are real vets
Badass tribute. Hard rocking song choice and good editing. Keep up the excellent work. 💪💪
Best part of the movie, the Missouri is a massive battleship. It was an honor to be able to walk on the ship.
The special effects in the movie were good but couldn't do justice to the real thing. I was able to watch Iowa exercising her main armament in practice and then 3 years later watched as Missouri and Wisconsin unloaded hell with shots in anger during Desert Storm. T'was a silly movie, but bless them for including this.
silly but fun. was entertained the whole time. fewer and fewer movies' are doing that now in days.

Nope. Just caught up in the difficulty of making old things run great again! Good job, good thought, great lyrics! Use anywhere!

American tech and workmanship best in the world then for that job. God bless America
I recently rewatched this movie. And it is not as bad as I remembered. Especially in comparison to some modern movies

Ive stood on the deck of that beast a few times as a kid... Bremerton is a great place to see history....
Incredible machine.
A hand full of veterans and the right equipment and they will rain hellfire down

I absolutely love this part, music is quality man ❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊🇱🇷
It might never happen, but damn it would be bad ass to see Mighty Mo and New Jersey wake up again with intent to kick some ass.

I think New Jersey is in dry dock right now and Texas just left. Texas is pretty old but New Jersey is still the queen of the fleet.
What about no bucket?

This movie was a LOT better than I thought it would be.!!!! I watch it whenever it's on network TV!!!! 👍🏿
This Movie is a Coolest Crazy Shit my friends. And Only AC/DC could supply So Excellent Musical Theme for this Scenes. Thanks.
I live 10 minutes away from where the new jersey is docked. She's ready to roll at the drop of a hat.
If by a drop of the hat you mean 9 to 12 months.

We had one in Desert Storm that most definitely made a point, warheads on foreheads until they get bored.

Love it
The missouri is truly a beast of war
And the other three Iowa class BBs.
@@jimreilly917 ALL EIGHT of our surviving battleships are.
@@robertf3479 so glad they’re finally rehabbing USS TEXAS. She’s a legend for her role in DDAY especially.
Powerful music for a very powerful scene.
Navy Brat was on the mighty Mo with my Farther ex Navy officer .10 years ago was station in Hawaii in the late 50S
It gives me goosebumps also. God Bless the USA fight fight fight against Tyranny from any and all. Rock on
This may be my favorite movie.

I wish the US would commission a new Battleship class . Hell even reinstate the Missouri
Love this movie. Big Mo comes out and dhows that an old ww2 battlrship can still kick booty. Big Mo wins agsinst the aliens.
Круто !!!!!!!
Stand aside
The Greatest Generation got this 👍
She's still a very capable and lethal piece of equipment ;)
She is a beautiful ship I pitty the fools she lowers the BOOM ON 😁
Moral of the story; when Americans come together there ain't nothing we can't accomplish. Beloved Americana.
beautiful. but how does a museum shop even have high-capacity ordnance or bunker fuel
Hit it

It's a movie, but, can you imagine being a lieutenant taking out the USS Missouri as the "captain"?!
A fantastic movie for an Iowa class nerd.
Would take the Navy ten years to get the Missouri back to active duty and they did it in 30 min.

I love how high pressure steam boilers that are cold just start up like an old flat head ford v8. Totally unrealistic.
