You explained every thing simply, will enjoy working on round needles , tried before didn’t work out, but I feel more confident to use them now after you explained how to knit with them, your voice is very calming. I made the hat and it came out so cute!! One thing I noticed was that I was dropping a lot of purl stitches. I think maybe I wasn’t doing the purl belows correctly, so I had to fix those holes with a crochet hook. Anyways, it came out great, so cute! I made the medium hat and it’s quite roomy, so I think next time I would size down. Thank you for this pattern, I have it saved!

I would just like to say......... You make the nicest, most "professional" and "manufactured" looking pompoms I have ever seen 😍 A lot of people make them and add them to their work and it just looks like the rattiest bunch of fudd you have ever seen, and in that one step they totally bring down the look and quality of their work. But yours are full, fluffy and perfectly rounded to within an inch of its life 😊 which is the type of pompom I prefer. Some people I've watched say "I want my pompom to look handmade, because the item is handmade and I want it to be obvious I made everything " well that's OK, but you dont have to make it look like your hat was attacked by a toddler, nothing makes my skin crawl more (or maybe its a very slight case of OCD) than people showing off things that I myself wouldn't let out of the house (okay, it is a slight case of OCD 😂). Anyway I've gotten very off topic. Love the pompom 🖤 😍

And I was wondering where you were going with closing the top of the hat without actually decreasing, and I thought it was genius! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. I am in love with the look of this hat!!! My circular needles are size 11 and all I have is super bulky #6 yarn. I'm not sure how to adjust the pattern so I'll end up with the correct size 😐 Can you offer any advice?
Hi Beth! The first thing I would suggest is making a swatch. Whether that yarn and needle combo will work is going to depend on your gauge. If you knit at an average gauge, the super bulky yarn may or may not be too thick for the size 11 needles. The size of the hat is determined by the circumference of the knit 1, purl 1 ribbing. So, you'll need to work a swatch in knit 1, purl 1 ribbing. If you are happy with the look and feel of that fabric, then you'll need to measure your gauge. To make the hat, you'll need to cast on an even number of stitches that, at your gauge, will yield a circumference that is about 2 inches smaller than your head. (It needs to be smaller than the head so it will stretch to stay on the head and be less likely to slide off.) You can then begin knitting according to the pattern instructions. Just keep in mind that the shortcut brioche in super bulky yarn on a size 11 needle may not have the same drape, or slouchiness, as the worsted weight hat (worked at a slightly looser-than-normal gauge) in the photo. Yes, once the top of the hat is cinched closed, you pull the yarn through to the inside and secure with a knot before weaving in the ends. I hope this helps!

Hi. A hat like this could be made on a circular knitting machine, but it would not be slouchy like the hat in the photo. Those machines have a certain maximum number of needles / stitches, and they are best for making a fitted hat. This hat is much more slouchy and loose-fitting at the crown, so a hat made on the machine would not have the same shape. I hope this helps!
Well, sort of. Whether they are exactly the same or not depends on who you ask. In my personal opinion, they are structurally the same but made with different methods. The "brioche" method involves slipping and yarning over, then knitting the yarn-overs together with the slipped stitches on the following row/round. The "fisherman's rib" method involves the knit into the stitch below technique. Since fisherman's rib is not as well known, and since I feel that both methods produce the same fabric, I chose to call mine "shortcut brioche" as it is a simpler way of making the same fabric. Hi Yvonne! If you want to use #5 Bulky Weight yarn, you will need to size the pattern down a bit to accommodate for the thicker yarn. Since the pattern has no shaping, this will only affect the stitch counts in the pattern, and all other instructions will be the same. To adjust the size, take the wearer's head circumference measurement and subtract 2 inches. This will be the finished measurement of the hat brim, as it needs to be smaller than the actual head circumference so it will stretch to comfortably stay on the head. Then, make a gauge swatch with the yarn you want to use and appropriately sized needles in "Knit 1, Purl 1" ribbing. Measure the number of stitches in 4 inches, with the fabric un-stretched. Divide that number by 4 to get the number of stitches per inch (it will often be a decimal number and not a whole number). When you tightened the hat at the end what did you do with the outside loop, did you pull it through to the inside?
