I've owned the MY for 2 months. I have the 19 inch wheels and even with those, the ride is excessively firm. Also, autopilot doesn't work on the very winding mountain road in the Bay Area where I live, but I expect it to improve over time. I've had none of the issues reported about the earlier builds (panel gaps, rattles, etc.). Overall I love the car. Will never go back to an ICE vehicle.

My husband and I bought a used Model S in April 2019 after trying out a Model 3 and Model S on Turo. We then made the jump to ALL ELECTRIC in September of last year when we sold our Maxima and leased a LR Model Y, same build as yours (Red/Black Interior/20 inch wheels/FSD). We haven't regretted it a minute! I even took a long-ish road trip by myself last November (Nashville to Little Rock) and it wasn't too bad at all. We had installed the outlet for faster home charging after getting our Model S, and now we just use that one charger to charge both of the cars at home. We can get a full charge on the MY in about six hours, for less than $6! Also - I totally agree on the rougher ride, especially coming from a Model S with the Smart Suspension, but I LOVE the easy entry/exit and riding higher in the Model Y.

@@SickSkilz I've only used Supercharging while on road trips. Even using a regular 120v outlet has been enough for my daily driving. Live in central AZ, been to the Grand Canyon twice and a road trip to Dallas (that was a long drive), no issues with range or finding convenient Superchargers along the way. Side note for those in AZ; The Oak Creek Canyon scenic route between Flagstaff and Sedona is amazing with the glass roof and regenerative braking.

Great video production and review! This answers all my questions except for the gas & maintenance price differences between this and comparable gas car. However, I know that depends a great deal on the gas and energy prices that vary a great deal from location to location. I learned a lot from this video! Thanks! It appears that the EV and home solar markets have really taken off in the past few months. I live in Southern California and have been surprised at how quickly Tesla cars have become commonplace on the road.

    Ryan,
I took delivery of my 2021 Model Y LR three weeks ago and was very pleased to discover that the build quality was flawless. Before I left the dealership, I looked it over from front to back and top to bottom and did not find one thing that alerted me in any way. After 3 weeks of driving it, nothing has changed. It is easily the best car I've ever owned, and I've had Mercedes, BMW, Volvo, and Lexus. It isn't the most luxurious, and it isn't the most comfortable ride, but it is by far the best vehicle as a whole. It's also way faster than my M3 was, and that's saying something.
Anyway, I just wanted you to know that I bought my Model Y in large part because of your TH-cam channel. Thank you and keep posting.

I agree with Ryan about the harsh ride in the MY. After six months of ownership, it is one of the few complains that have with this car. And I also have had the car slow down dramatically while in Autopilot. It will freak you out when it happens out of the blue on a busy freeway.

For the supercharger network use the taper charge cycle for the entire trip, meaning you charge until the charge start to slow then unplug it then go to the next charger and repeat the process.

We ended up taking a road trip from WA to Las Vegas in his car and had so much fun that we did it 3X! Love the responsive speed, sound system and the Model 3's low center of gravity in the curves. Ryan,
I don't know what kind of a channel you have to communicate with Tesla, but I am hoping you could pass along a suggestion. The Model Y has a nice audio system (not great) but very enjoyable. It has a short coming that could be addressed with a software change. You may be old enough to remember audio receivers (a combination radio and tuner/amplifier for a stereo system). Because of the inherent power curve in these devices, they never sounded as good at a low volume as they did at a higher volume. It takes a disproportionate amount of power to make the high and low spectrum adequately and appropriately balance in volume. So on the receivers they would have a loudness button or boost button that altered the internal equalizer to raise the volume on the ends of the sound spectrum.
I think it would be great for Tesla to put a button on the equalizer that would boost the volume on the low and high spectrum and low volumes.
    What do you think?

  • @jamesbuchanan3439

I am so glad that "very picky Ryan" (which we have seen from time to time discussing the Y) didn't show up for this one-year review, and that it is very fair, complete, balanced, and quite positive in it's overall conclusions.
(We have been enjoying our Y (with standard wheels) since early last June--an early model by east-coast standards--and can say that the minuses are OVERWHELMINGLY overshadowed by the pluses of the car: it is a pleasure to own and to ride in, especially when environmental considerations are part of the analysis.)

Very well review all things considered. I am a new Tesla MY owner (2+ months) and can relate to most of what you said. Maybe too early as I still love it very much so at this point, yes I would buy it again and no, not picking up the FSD option, at least not on all the Tesla I will own.

Thanks Ryan for the updated review. My current 2018 Subaru has a feature with which I can push a button on the steering wheel and then speak a command from a fairly complete list. For example I can call someone on the phone as long as my phone is cabled to the car via USB or I can "navigate" to some location. I'd like to see Tesla add this kind of feature to reduce the number of times my attention is diverted from the road to pick out an icon on the screen. The Subaru feature set, called "insight" or something like that is on a number of other car makes as well. Cheers, S.

I believe my model 3 can do the same. I’m not sure how extensive the list is, but I can definitely press the right scroll wheel and ask it to call or text someone when my phone is connected via Bluetooth.

Ryan, love your channel and videos. Do you know if we can move the seat warmers to the outside of the screen? I live in Florida and am accidentally turning seat warmer on when trying to tap the AC up or down. Can we move the seat warmer icon to far side of the screen? I never need those and I’m accidentally tapping them way too often. Thx!!

Thanks! This was a great overview. I have an older Model S and am looking to buy the Model Y later this year BUT I am looking for a great road trip car and the stiff ride may be an issue (I would definitely get the standard wheels). I have yet to test drive one and also hoping that air suspension will eventually become an option. Thanks again.

    • @TheSteinbitt

Why would you change from an S to a Y? I would perhaps get a Y as a second car, but never change from my S, too comfy on road trips:)

    • @loums52
      @loums52 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@TheSteinbitt I will definitely need to test drive first. My S will be out of warranty and I am looking for more range. I also like the higher up driving style as I never really liked sedans, though I was happy to make an exception to buy a used Model S. My real desire would be to buy the X with air suspension but the much higher cost is a big factor though a used X is also another option. I typically buy 3 year old cars with a suitable warranty. I am in no hurry and will see.

@@loums52 it’s sad Tesla doesn’t offer the 4 years/50k miles warranty anymore. Still have over 2 years left on my 2015 S85D. Yes, the Y is much easier to get in/out but live the suspension on my S.

I think the new compartmentalisation of the screen is FSD-related. Its just too significant of a change to take it as a mistake. I dont know, time will tell, but this is Tesla, I can easily see a point to it being later revealed.

Charlottesville to Douglas GA, new model Y. Fully agree on the suspension. Trip - stay 2 days, driving 30-40 miles each day around Douglas and then returning. I can certainly get there, but the problem is getting back. No destination charging at any hotel. It is possible, but just too risky Nearest supercharger or charger of any type is > 1 hour away. Not even a 120V place to plug in and I called the hotels. Maybe I could find a welding shop with a 240V plug... I don't think it's fully possible YET to ditch my other ICE car. A year or two more? Maybe.

Hi Ryan: Will the installation of the Unplugged Performance suspension cause limitations to the rest of car warranty? I don't think it should but this is Tesla. I have a 2020 Y that was built around the 10,000 count and we have not experienced any problems. Great car for us in SoCal!!!

I bought a Model Y in September and bought Enhanced Auto Pilot before the end of the year for $4k. It seems to come with everything Full Self Drive comes with other than not stopping at traffic lights. Paying $6k more for it to stop at lights seems ridiculous. I can always upgrade to Full Self Drive if it ever releases.

My SCE rate came out to be $0.184/Kwh. $90.36 / 491Kwh = $0.184/kh (2/17/21 - 3/18/21) D-CARE rate. Would you mind checking your SCE bill again? $0.16/kwh sounded a bit low for the L.A. area. Please make sure you've combined generation cost + delivery cost or just divide the monthly bill by the kWh used. That's the most accurate per Kwh cost for home charging. Thanks for great videos. PS: I wished I could buy your Hond Fit for $500.

New design on the screen is much better. The info you need like speed is moved so you can see it easier now without moving your head. It also looks much better designwise.
