Whether it's a demonstration, a sparring match, or a flat-out battle in a movie Jean-Claude Van Damme's movements appear smooth, controlled, and calculated. It is always a pleasure to watch him in action.
That's one of the things you really notice in well-practiced martial artists like him, exceptional kicking control. Others like Wallace, Norris, McGregor, Mochida, Silva, GSP, many many Muay Thai experts all kicked with very solid, well-controlled stances; in many other MMA kicks the kicker is spinning around, the leg doesn't retract, etc., no control of their body during a kick. And good low kicks, like those used often by Jon Jones, are very effective if, like him, you keep your control and posture for the next technique. But the many, many off balance, straight legged low kicks in MMA are useless.

Van Damme! What a guy!!! Hollywood knocked him down but he got up. Love him in that Volvo commercial, doing the splits 😬 it was done in 1 take and he was 47 or so.
JCVD was my inspiration to train in martial arts, from basically the first time I saw Bloodsport. I don't have quite the same height on my kicks anymore, but I can pretty closely imitate his "low-mid-high" right side kicks and that flashy standing high spin kick. Also, my tornado kick isn't bad either. I'm 38 and I cherish the fact I can still do most of the moves I learned as a teenager. When I'm drunk at a party some of my old friends still go "hey dave...do the kick man". If he actually does read this...bro...thanks for being a huge part of my life man.

So glad to have grown up with action star icons like Van Damme, Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal, Wesley Snipes, Dolph Lundgren, Bruce Willis...... and the list goes on and on. My absolute favorite years were late 80's throughout the 90's when these guys were dropping blockbuster movie after blockbuster movie and we ate them up like PEZ. Times have changed........we all had it sooooooooo good back then. Nostalgia road is a bitch sometimes.

Like strength and movement and good reflexes. I'm limber and no sagging parts! I still kick higher than my head. All because of Jean-Claude Van Damme! I do wish this channel would upload the full "Training you can do at home" videos! Just to have a little something I can do. I'm starting to get to that age... It's important to keep fit and I only have like those 5 min of those videos Jean-Claude made. (Those must have been made 20 years ago maybe?) This is the best 2 minutes of my life! This man is truly a gifted martial artist that can do incredible moves. No wires, no stunt doubles. Just pure flexibility and grace in all of his kicks. If I could download any kung-fu skills like the matrix, I'd want Van Damme's kickboxing, then maybe Iko Uwais Silat, and Tony Jaa's Muay Thai.

I practiced the spinning back kick on the trampoline as a kid, repeatedly. I’m 52 now, and can still pull the kicks off quite well from ground level, exceeding 6 ft. JCVD’s fluidity is effortless. Thanks to him, Sho Kasugi, Sammo, and later Donnie, Jing Wu and the incredible Max Zhang, I kept my training to a standard to where I walk the thug filled streets today with total confidence that I can defend myself. I’m glad I chose Wing Chun as my exponency, I’ll carry the skill set well into my 60s. Great demo here, tfp 👍🇦🇺
Good to know, I'm 47 I can't do a 540 triple anymore, not sure if it's age or I've not been training as hard as younger times but good to know you in your 50s still kicking give me motivation.
@@Ming1975 I kept training in WC, but not so much the old fancy kicks, so rest assured it should come back to you without much of a struggle. Once you get to 50, make sure your diet and vices are well managed. I trained at my school in Sydney with another student, a chinese elder in his 80s, and he had a Tan Sau with a force strong enough to knock me over. Very humbling yet at the same time reassuring. @little drane That's like telling me to lower my standards. Imagine someone telling you don't need to be strong enough to do chin ups, push ups or one leg push ups to be a strong punch/kicker just extend your arm or leg at them is enough. I can stand firm on one leg and kick the heavy bag in 3 directions vertical and horizontally and don't fall easily because I can do gymnastic and free runs to have good foot work to run away if things are not in favor. You have a very low standard if you think being agile is not important because there are always those who can beat me with just brainless brute force by size but at least I can get away and run. To win a fight is child's play, just fight someone physically weaker and less capable. Real Martial Artist want to prove they have more refined skills than basic. Winning is only important to those with nothing to show so they need someone to lose to them.

Many have tried to copy the moves and many have succeeded but nobody will ever do the moves as elegantly and beautiful. That nobody will ever replicate.
These are high level kicks. The balance displayed here is uncanny. This is decades of experience, rarely achieved by your average black belt. Don't doubt that these are powerful techniques to use in a real fight. Van Damme's kicks have greater range, power, and speed than almost any punch. Just because JCVD doesn't have a ton of actual fighting experience does not mean his technique's would be worthless in a fight. Just like a trained soldier is no less deadly just because he hasn't seen combat yet. JCVD has always been legit.
Van Damme had a long competitive career in full contact martial arts before he got into acting. In fact, Van Damme worked as a bouncer in a bar that Chuck Norris owned and that association eventually got him into the movies. So yeah Van Damme has lots of real fight experience.
“Decades of experience”… while there’s no doubt that the stuff he did was impressive, saying things like that and “rarely achieved by your average black belt” or that his balance is “uncanny” seems a bit stretched. I’ve only been training in taekwondo for a few years and I could faithfully recreate all the skills showcased in this video, as could many of my friends. Now, I give respect where it’s due, after all, he was a staple in martial arts cinema and did a lot to popularize martial arts as a whole, but I can assure you that if we were to only talk about his martial arts skills, he wasn’t much of a prodigy so much as just a guy who’s dedicated enough to train consistently
Ever since my dad showed me kick Boxer & Sports Blood when I was 6, it was from there on I became an instant fan of him!! Man the memories, I'm so glad I got to witness all the late 80s & 90s!! I will forever cherish those times!!
If we can get only the training without the achievements and that would be a massive gain! Jean Claude it is one of the few heroes of my childhood! I wish him all the best from the bottom of my heart and I bet that many of my generations agree with me!

I was already practicing taekwondo when bloodsport came out and my favorite kick was that spinning kick.
These are high level kicks. The balance displayed here is uncanny. This is decades of experience, rarely achieved by your average black belt. Don't doubt that these are powerful techniques to use in a real fight. Van Damme's kicks have greater range, power, and speed than almost any punch. Just because JCVD doesn't have a ton of actual fighting experience does not mean his technique's would be worthless in a fight. Just like a trained soldier is no less deadly just because he hasn't seen combat yet. JCVD has always been legit.

Van Damme had a long competitive career in full contact martial arts before he got into acting. In fact, Van Damme worked as a bouncer in a bar that Chuck Norris owned and that association eventually got him into the movies. So yeah Van Damme has lots of real fight experience.

“Decades of experience”… while there’s no doubt that the stuff he did was impressive, saying things like that and “rarely achieved by your average black belt” or that his balance is “uncanny” seems a bit stretched. I’ve only been training in taekwondo for a few years and I could faithfully recreate all the skills showcased in this video, as could many of my friends. Now, I give respect where it’s due, after all, he was a staple in martial arts cinema and did a lot to popularize martial arts as a whole, but I can assure you that if we were to only talk about his martial arts skills, he wasn’t much of a prodigy so much as just a guy who’s dedicated enough to train consistently

Ever since my dad showed me kick Boxer & Sports Blood when I was 6, it was from there on I became an instant fan of him!! Man the memories, I'm so glad I got to witness all the late 80s & 90s!! I will forever cherish those times!!

When was this ? I grew up with him in movies I’m 56 and a black belt in karate I’ve gotten a little out of shape that guy has never looked any different except his face a bit his moves his kicks nothing has changed after all these decades that guy really rocks !
