    I actually think Garland is an upgrade over D-Lo but I’d still rather have Djonte Murray, slightly less offensive ceiling but much better defender than both D-Lo and Garland

      I'd rather have D'Lo at his contract than Garland at his... People forget that Garland signed a 5-year $193M extension that just kicked in this past season. He's got 4 more years on the deal that pays $34M to $44M per season. If D'Lo doesn't have a lot of suitors, I'd hope that LA try to re-sign him to a 3-year $45M contract or something close to that range, or at most, to a Rui-type contract...

    Chris Quinn should be on the top of the Laker's coaching list. In a lot of ways he's a lot like Cassell; both are former NBA PGs who have been assistants for a long time. The main difference between them (other than Cassell having been a much, much better player) is that IMO Quinn comes from a better coaching tree. Cassell coached mostly under Doc Rivers, whereas Quinn spent his entire NBA coaching career under Erik Spoelstra.
    I think coaching trees matter. Think about what LA just had with Darvin Ham. He learned mostly from the Budenholzer. Why was Budenholzer fired in Milwaukee? He often made questionable decisions in games, including the playoffs in his final year with the Bucks when he failed to call timeouts in key situations. He was criticized for not making in-game adjustments, and was publicly called out by his star player for the lack of adjustments after losing a playoff game. Hmmm... Sound familiar?
    That being said, compare Doc to Spo... Other than his one championship season, Doc is mostly known for failing to control his locker room & keeping his stars in-line (esp. in his years in Philly), as well as getting upset in the playoffs. Spoelstra, on the hand, is known as one of the sharpest coaches in the NBA whose teams tend to overachieve & have a great culture. So if I'm choosing between the 2, all things being equal, I'd go Spoelsta's assistant over Doc's.

    Yes, Dlo has "some" leverage but I keep saying that he killed most of his leverage with his poor performance. No one will hard cap themselves for him and no one needs a point guard that folds in the post season. He might get offers but this will be the next Dennis Shroeder situation if he opts out.

    You do need guys to get u through the regular season i agree with that. But not guys that are liabilities in the playoffs. I mean u can count on one hand the amount of guys that are better in the playoffs than the regular season but thats what we need. And honestly LeBron and AD make too much mo ey for us to go out and get that.

    DLo is headed to Cleveland in a deal for Garland. Take it to the bank. Mitchell & DLo have the same agent & have been buddies for years. And DLo went to Ohio State so he might find a home there with Mitchell.

      @@akaliotp6766 Agreed. Especially when D'Lo makes $18M & Garland makes $34M, & has 4 more years & $159M left on his extension. I think LA could get D'Lo on a Rui-type contract or less in this market, which basically means you're getting a relatively comparable type player for less than 1/2 the cost.

    Lakers should trade 2029 and/or 2031 unprotected pick to a team like OKC who has so many picks they can’t even use them all. Allows OKC to consolidate assets and kick the can down the road. For the Lakers it could help you make multiple smaller trades or even for a star player, most opposing GMs don’t have job security to wait 5 years for the Lakers pick to convey.
    Something like Lakers unprotected 2029 1st for OKCs 2024, 2025, and 2026 1sts, maybe a handful of 2nd round picks in place of a 1st.

    • @d.a.baracus1438
      @d.a.baracus1438 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That's just OKC basically throwing away picks for no reason. They're on the cusp of being title contenders. They should be using those picks to get a veteran star or something that can help them win now, like a couple young players & a couple of their picks for Mikal Bridges or something like that.

      @@d.a.baracus1438 if you had three $10 coupons that expired next week that you realistically couldn’t use, you don’t think it would make sense to trade them for a $30 coupon that you could use later?
      OKC literally does not have the roster space for all the draft picks they have coming up, and their picks are going to be late in the first anyway because they are going to be a good team. Trading them to the Lakers solves two problems. Don’t have to use the picks, and they have a very valuable asset later when maybe they would actually need it.

    • @d.a.baracus1438
      @d.a.baracus1438 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@joeyluckow2490 There are a couple of false assumptions you're making... The 1st & most obviously false is that OKC's 3 coupons are each only worth $10 while LA's pick is worth $30. Why would LA's pick be worth 3x as much as OKC's? I get that you're assuming OKC can't use it, so they're going to expire, but that doesn't explain why LA's is worth so much more. If we're going to use your coupon analogy, OKC would be trading 3 expiring $10 coupons for LA's $10 coupon that they can't you for 5 years. Yeah, maybe OKC might not be able to use all 3 coupons, but that's still better than trading $30 for $10.
      The other false assumption is that these are OKC's only 2 options. They are not, & all of OKC other options are clearly better than trading 3 1sts for 1 1st. Using your coupon analogy, I'd try to sell my coupons for discounted prices, & even if I sold all 3 for 1/2 value, I'd still get more value than doing a 3-for-1 trade.
      Heck, if these were my only 2 options, I'd rather waive the guys at the end of my roster & just use the picks. That's still better value than doing a 3-for-1 trade.
      Realistically what OKC will do is create a package using players & picks to upgrade their roster. I honestly don't know enough about OKC's rosters to know what their needs are so I'm just spitballing, but they could do something like Dort, Wallace, a couple 1sts & a couple 2nds, for Mikal Bridges. This upgrades the roster & clears out a bit of glut of picks & rosters you're so worried about. Even if they overpay a little for whoever they trade for, it's still better than just giving their picks away.

      Lol... It's not the NBA's fault that they consistently miss on their draft picks... They took KCP at #8 when Giannis was still on the table, & then let KCP walk away for nothing so they could sign Avery Bradley...who played for Det. for 1/2 a season. They also drafted Stanley Johnson when Devin Booker & Myles Turner were still on the board. They drafted Luke Kennard, & the next 2 picks were Donovan Mitchell & Bam Adebayo. In 2019, they drafted Sekou Domumboya, who was out of the NBA before his rookie contract was up. They took Killian Hayes instead of Ty Haliburton, Devin Vassell. Cade Cunningham has been okay, but thus far, he's been 1 of only 10 #1 overall draft picks in the last 44 years who haven't made either an All Star team or an All-NBA Team; he's keeping company with guys like Fultz, Anthony Bennett, Kwame, Oden...so that's not good. Even the guy taken #1 overall in the season after Cunningham, Banchero, has already made an All-Star team...
      Every team misses on draft picks every now & then, but the Pistons haven't hit a home run on one in the past 20 years, & really have more total whiffs than solid hits during that time. Can't blame the NBA for that...
