I have an irrupted wisdom tooth and I have had 2 rounds of antibiotics and it’s not going away. I have gone to the oral surgeon and unfortunately they can remove it because I had radiation in the area and if they take it out there can be a bigger problem. I’m at a loss and feel so helpless. 😢 I see my surgeon again in a couple days

How to know if we have a tooth infection? Can someone have a tooth infection without having any pain or any other symptoms?

    • @3Dental

There can be just some redness of the gum that you might overlook or chronic infection with no symptoms that only shows up on x-Ray. Generally, though, there will be pain, swelling, tenderness and/or pus coming from the gum.

I’ve had the pericoronitis infection in both lower wisdoms for close to a year off and on but all 4 need to be removed. I was so busy with work/school I had put off the removal and lately I’ve been feeling pretty sick. Bad sore throat and just tired and feeling like I’ve had a cold as well as sinus infections very consistently. The dentist gave me some antibiotics and mouthwash which seems to have helped a little bit but there’s still some inflammation and still having a pretty sore throat. I’m supposed to get them removed in a week but I’m just curious do you think that the infection and/or the pressure from the top teeth could be what’s making me feel sick with sinus infection/cold like symptoms?

Hello , I have no pain and my dentist says infection in one wisdom . I have no pain although eyes ears smell all off so I went to aces with dentist . I honestly think it’s a money grab . They say pull the tooth and get an implant . Why would I have no pain yet have an infection. I did the expensive good X-ray that does a 3 d image showing infection . To corroded to do a root canal . And I would never want a root canal as it leaves dead debris in the body . They also said pull other side as that root canal looks infected ?? How do we know when they telling truth ?

Thanks for your comment. It sounds like the question here is - How do I know if I can trust my dentist? The situation you described does not sound unreasonable, but we could not offer a clinical opinion without looking at the 3D X-ray and carrying out an examination. The dentist may have shown you the X-ray and pointed out the area of infection. We build trust by establishing a rapport with our patients and have great reviews and testimonials. Good luck with your decision.

So a week ago I was having jaw pain leading up to my to my ear that went on for a week. I went to the dr this Friday and they sent me to the hospital for x rays said everything was fine and gave me an antibiotic because my cheek and jaw is swelling. It’s not Sunday 2 days later my far tooth on the right side top has stated hurting and swelling and now I have what looks to me infection in my gums or something but it has covered up the whole roof of my mouth now in 2 days. I called to try and make a emergency appointment at a dentist office but 4th of July is Tuesday. Hopefully it ain’t nothing serious. I’m a little worried. Cause it’s getting worse and worse

So it’s been a month they told me it was my wisdom teeth so they pulled them. My bottom right side has not healed at all, I have pulled a few bone spurs out and went back in because my jaw bone was coming through my gums. So they scraped down my jaw bone 3 weeks ago now. 2 separate visits because it’s been nothing but issues. My gums still haven’t healed over my jaw bone they did give a week long steroid to take tho. As far as the swelling and pain up to my ear has not stopped one bit.

The swelling and restricted mouth opening are due to the infection related to your wisdom tooth. Antibiotics generally take 24-48 hours before you begin to see the benefits, in this situation you should continue to take the antibiotics and rinse out your mouth regularly with an antibacterial mouthwash. If the swelling continues to increase you should return to your dentist for reassessment.

    • @3Dental

That would be highly unlikely. Any infection after an extraction would happen rapidly, within a few days, and would generally be localised to the tooth socket. Sepsis - an infection of the blood - is very rare following tooth extraction.

It sounds like you have a separate problem related to a different molar tooth. Pain to bite on a tooth generally indicates a problem with the nerve inside the tooth. Swollen gum on the outside of a tooth indicates either a problem with the nerve in the tooth or a gum problem. You should visit your dentist to diagnose the source of the problem and have it treated.
