    Another alternative :
    Using first kinematic equation and getting the value of time and substituting it in second kinematic equation. By solving i get the value of time at which velocity equals to acceleration due to gravity is 1sec and by substituting it in second kinematic equation i get the same answer as 5m
    Correct me if I'm wrong

      This approach is logical and aligns well with the principles of kinematics. But you forgot one more step you have to subtract your answer from the initial height so can you get height above ground. Questions asked the height of a ball where the magnitude of velocity and acceleration becomes equal. It means we have to calculate height from bottom not from top. now you are calculating the time where magnitude of velocity becomes 10 (approx) and get answer as 1 sec. and after putting the value of time in kinematics 2nd equation you get height from top not from bottom....... I hope what I said is clear.
