  • Driving in France? Unlock the Secrets of the Crit'air Sticker System
So, let's dive in and explore everything you need to know about the Crit'air sticker!"
"First things first, what exactly is the Crit'air sticker? Well, it's a vehicle classification system implemented by the French government to regulate access to certain areas based on the vehicle's environmental impact. This system aims to reduce pollution and improve air quality in French cities."
"There are six different Crit'air sticker types, distinguished by different colors and numbers, ranging from green to purple. The color and number on the sticker indicate the vehicle's Euro emission standard, with green being the cleanest and most environmentally friendly."
"Now, let's talk about where you need to display the Crit'air sticker. Currently, it's mandatory for vehicles to display the sticker when entering certain restricted environmental zones in larger French cities, such as Paris, Lyon, and Grenoble. However, it's always a good idea to check the specific requirements for the city you plan to visit."
"To determine which Crit'air sticker category your vehicle falls under, you'll need to consider its Euro emission standard. The categories range from 0 to 5, with 0 being the cleanest and 5 being the highest emitting vehicles."
"Now, let's talk about which Crit'air sticker you need in different situations. In general, it's recommended to have the Crit'air sticker before entering a restricted zone. You'll need to purchase the sticker that corresponds to your vehicle's Euro emission standard. For example, if your vehicle meets the Euro 5 standard, you'll need to purchase the Crit'air sticker with a number 5."
"To purchase the Crit'air sticker, you can visit the official website crit-air.fr, which is available in multiple languages. The cost of the sticker is around €3.11, excluding delivery charges. The delivery time varies, but it's generally advisable to allow a few weeks for processing and shipping."
"Once you receive your Crit'air sticker, it's important to know where to apply it on your vehicle. The sticker should be affixed on the windshield or a specific location as indicated by the regulations. Make sure it's clearly visible from the outside."
"Now, let's address the consequences of not complying with the Crit'air sticker requirements. If you enter a restricted zone without the appropriate sticker, you may face fines and penalties. The authorities use cameras and other monitoring systems to enforce these regulations, so it's essential to adhere to the requirements."
"Finally, let's discuss the validity of the Crit'air sticker. Once you have the sticker, it's valid for the entire lifespan of your vehicle, as long as the vehicle's Euro emission standard remains the same. However, if you change your vehicle or its emission standard, you'll need to update your Crit'air sticker accordingly."

What a dilemma. The areas where you need these stickers are densely populated urban areas. The areas where, if you have a foreign registration plate, your car is more likely to be broken into or vandalised. Now if every European country decides to spontaneously introduce such a sticker scheme as this, road safety will be greatly compromised as you will not be able to see out of your damned windscreen. Doesn't such spontaneity breech EU rules?

haha, you are right, but not every country has stickers. Some countries register your license plate only and no sticker is required. To my knowledge, only German and French stickers are on your car for a more extended period. So I think you will still keep a view through your windows

@@AnjaGalje Incorrect, you need to apply online and upload your registration certificate for the approval to be recognised. You might be getting confused with the Swiss vignette.
