Now that managed Spark is embedded in Synapse I'm wondering what's going to happen to Azure Databricks.

Synapse Studio is really cool. I have the preview edition in my subscription and have been working with it for a while. It is great that you can work with data from different locations all in the same IDE. You can run spark workloads as well as SQL workloads all in the same place. Keep it up Microsoft!

Where is this Synapse workspace in Azure portal? Azure Synapse Analytics (formerly SQL DW) does not have worskspace

Hmmm, so in summary Azure Synapse is a mash of SQL DW + Azure Data Factory into one portal experience across a serverless architecture. Looks good but I have my concerns about costs given each query or action is now measured in $$$.

It's everything pre-configured with limitless scale - versus having to wire up all the underlying services manually. It does come with reserved compute for querying, so the on-demand compute is optional as-needed.
