All over the country convents are closing for their valuable land ... No surprise, this is so beautiful and valuable .. A huge loss to the community...
This has nothing to do with solitude..this is about money and power …I remember reading about the bishop and the nuns quarreling about this monastery….one day we will know the truth …
And so that was the issue here ..the bishop has no jurisdiction over the building the nuns owned it …but I guess the pressure was too much that they decided to give up …how sad …
This is going on all over the country and the cause is the Almighty dollar. I pray for Catholics not to lose faith, but continue praying for the strength to do so.
I’ll be glad to greet them here into Florida but I really doubt that they’ll appreciate the heat. I would think twice again about the destination. 🌞✨✝️
Do you know if the Carmelites own this property? Is the neighborhood really that noisy to distract the nuns? It looks like quite a large monastery, do you know how many nuns live there? Sorry for all the questions. Contemplative life is very close to my heart.
@@robertfirek8994 Contemplative orders will always have a hard time surviving. The neighborhood is still relatively peaceful - but, Buffalo winters can be rough. I believe the Carmelites own this property. It will be interesting to see what happens to the buildings.
So sorry for you Buffalo. But yes for a complative life silence is absolutely necessary. PRAYER is so important for the WORLD and that's what they do. Seems THESE LADIES all Over the WORLD are HAVING problems. How I wish the noises could have ceased. But I KNOW they'll pray for Y'ALL every day. And SISTERS BUFFALO SHALL LIFT Y'ALL TOO. GODBLESS Y'ALL
Nuns have a right to practice their belief at whatever establishment that is Catholic they did not sign any papers to any earthly person it is living on the earth
Transfer the management of monasteries and chapels to the monks/nuns or priests of the SSPX, they can better continue the Church's missionary work and will bear much fruit here. Contact their contact person immediately.
I believe the report said they are moving to the Diocese of St. Augustine, not the City of St. Augustine. The Diocese itself is 17 counties large. There's plenty of quiet space down here.
And yet, we have a Discalced Carmelite monastery here in the Miami area (Homestead). Now, if the Buffalo nuns move to St Augustine, we'll have two. As a former Discalced Carmelite I rejoice!
I wish them the very best in following their calling and obeying their Rule. I wish that the USA find peace and a better life than we have had under the current administration.
We may be sad but they are full of cheer & hope ! Many a times i visit a Great Carmelie Convent in the city of Kandy in Srilanka. They are cloistered for life & this particular Nun is a family friend & everytime i visit & look at her serene smiling Face through the iron grill how i envy Her ! This Nun has a degree in geography from the leading University of Srlanka & few professors even proposed to her. She joined the Carmelites of her own will (entire community of nuns) & lead a life of prayers for others ! ✝️
The letters that the sisters put out was forced by them. The bishop was taken out by Pope Francis and a new bishop was put in. They have plans on selling the property. And told the nuns either submit to the bishop or get out
I am so sorry. I am in Buffalo however I love New Orleans. I remember seeing the Ursuline convent in the French Quarter.. I didn't realize the nuns were gone. How do we turn this ship around?
The nuns are free to do with their convent what they need to do with it. From many comments, they were beloved neighbors and their prayers were working.
Prayer knows no bounds . The probably elderly and diminished numbers of sisters will continue their lifetime of devotion nearer the palm trees the ocean breezes and the fountain of youth. But then again prayer keeps one young . God bless they ll leave behind the odor of sanctity which will linger over the Buffalo future condos for a time. When the snow falls with its near silent nights future residents will hush and maybe hear the voice of God and the sisters intentions.
Sad to see them leave such a beautiful location. St Augustine is a fast growing city with much beauty but a beach town. Sure hope they find the peace and tranquility they are looking for. G~d bless. Bring your swimming trunks!
They are moving to the Diocese of St Augustine which comprises 17 counties, NOT to the city of St. Augustine itself!!! We already have Discalced Carmelite Nuns in Miami-Dade County (in Homestead). They have a beautifully quiet and isolated monastery where they follow their Carmelite vocation as it should be followed. I am sure the Buffalo nuns will find an equably quiet property.
Because of a male person is being the way he is and being wrong the people have to suffer for something that they've been used to having through their life
Not so much because of a "male" person, but rather, because (maybe) a corrupt bishop? God forgive me if I'm wrong, but this has been happening quite a lot lately as it happened in Pennsylvania.
Sad for you as a community. We are in the most busiest part of the town. would not leave for that. But know there are great difficulties to keep monasteries open due to financial circumstances and lack of vocations.
As one who lives in neither NY nor Florida, I appreciate the need to leave, and the need to go to a place that's receptive. I don't envy the move to Florida in times of global warming. What they'll save in heating will be more than made up for by a/c expenses. Yeah, I prefer the cold. Hope they enjoy the new cloister. Maybe some non-denominational "community church" will be able to use the Buffalo property...
They are moving to the Diocese of St Augustine, not St. Augustine itself. There are plenty of quiet areas in the entire Diocese which comprises 17 counties if I am not mistaken. And, if we can have Discalced Carmelite nuns in the Miami area (Homestead), St Augustine Diocese will be a piece of cake.
That tells you right there there's something Bailey that must be a male person karma will come and get them when you do something wrong it will always find you
They remind me of the Amish. They want to ignore those around them. How can the Gospel be preached by them if they are not part of the world????? Both group do not want to comment ( prob. so they do not get sued). so much for blocking out the world you RE supposed to Evangelize😩😩😩
Moving to St. augustine is a bad idea .. not just because of little fascist DeSantis but because the state will be under water before long and insurance will bankrupt them

God knows and in our end that is all that matters.
As independent Carmelites wouldn't they own their property?
Was this bishop responsible for transferring known pedophile priests to other parishes? I think every catholic bishop should be investigated.
And so that was the issue here ..the bishop has no jurisdiction over the building the nuns owned it …but I guess the pressure was too much that they decided to give up …how sad …

Bad news for Buffalo. Good news for St. Augustine.
St. Augustine, FL is really beautiful
I’ll be glad to greet them here into Florida but I really doubt that they’ll appreciate the heat. I would think twice again about the destination. 🌞✨✝️
Sad. So very sad.
A tremendous loss for the community.
Somehow I don’t see anything in St Augustine FL being quieter.
We need to pay close attention to what we are losing everywhere as Catholics. We need to pay attention to this.
If a nun does not want to be at that parish and there is definitely something wrong with that parish with someone
I will miss them! They are a fixture in our North Buffalo neighborhood. It's a loss for all of us in North Buffalo.

This will become expensive condos, and will be bought up in a shot. The nuns, though, are a presence for good, and will be missed terribly I’m sure.
I hope the statues, altars, etc. will go into good hands.

When the Monastery is sold, who will get the money, the Carmelites, or the diocese?😮
Don’t forget our Pope!
Wouldn't that depend on who owns the property?
The nuns will get the multi million $$$

Florida need some nuns maybe they could help the state keep from going down the tubes
@@Inmyopinion987that’s probably New York. Florida has hit #1 in many different metrics including immigration from other states…

@martinsusmahendra7492. Oh ya they'll run out and do that right away🙄.
St. Augustine Florida does not sound like a "quiet" place to me. Although it is not as densely populated as say Miami

The SSPX should buy it.

I feel like crying from very far far far...what about thise close to them...all these years.
It's not any noisier than it was 60 years ago when I was raised near here. It must be something else, like $.
I live in the neighborhood. It has become a lot noisier.
@@marykunzgoldman What kind of noise?
I hope I'm wrong, but probably another bishop canceling these dear sisters.
