It took me a solid weekend to finally get to putting all the things I've gathered/drawn together to make this video.

Honestly I left the art commentary community because I felt like I was being manipulated and wasnt allowed to form my own opinions on things it felt really toxic 😭 and then years later after I left turns out I was being manipulated so that was fun
And like everyday someone was being called out for something (sometimes valid reasons sometimes it was just "this person was mean to me 😡)

I totally grew up on animation memes too. Honestly, looking back on it I can totally see the nsfw undertones of it but I can also see why kids were so drawn to them because (for lack of better words) they were just really colorful and it's really that "ooo shiny" sorts mindset you have when your frontal lobe is barely developed. Also the art is so yummy! ALSO POKEMON!!
Yah definitely, many of the stuff I used to see were very much sexual and I didn't understand. Because in my mind I thought "if it is drawn, is okay since is fictional and can't affect me personally". Well I'm wrong and now growing I can see the problems of the stuff I used to watch, and hope that we may be able to protect the kids of today to not get into the same deep hell as we got to

So I'm in my 30s and have been posting art on internet social media since 2005 and I've been on the internet artist side for a relatively long time now and when I tell you that there has been a big shift in how things were 15 years ago vs where we are now, I really mean it lol. And I can how this ended up happening but first to clear up some things.
The call that you were referring to with Peaches and Lio (the older man) confronting Rosa (mentally handicapped woman) was over her keeping a predator in a discord server. Granted the things that they were saying to her that wasn't related to the seriousness of the situation was very uncalled for and out of line but I digress, just thought I'd provide the context for that.
And on the Synnibear drama, you (and many others) ask "why" she did what she did and the answer is in her own story of her past She's pretty young (well, compared to me anyway) and from what I've read about how she was growing up, she shared that she started seeing NSFW type stuff when she was like 10 and then stumbled upon nsfw at the same time and was coerced into drawing NSFW material and participated in accompanying chats over Discord while still in middle school. She pretty much got desensitized from this stuff because she was so young and there just was no parental or guardian intervention which further contributed to her stunted sense of right vs wrong when it comes to NSFW stuff. And by the time she reached 18, she had it in her mind that sharing NSFW with minors was not a big deal because she herself was sent and engaged with that stuff when she was younger on the internet as well and that is how she ended up where she is now.
This is all a total mental whiplash to me because most people in my age range or older did not see NSFW stuff until we were at least 18+ and I think is the biggest problem with why you see this issue today because your generation (I'm assuming you're a gen z, at least someone born after the 90s though if I'm wrong I apologize) is the first generation to literally grow up on the internet via getting smartphones and/or tablets at a very young age and how a lot of your generation may have stumbled upon NSFW stuff through the fandoms you had interest in. For example Synnibear was really into Undertale and that was how she got exposed to the nsfw side of it. All this to say, if children get exposed to NSFW material at such a young age, they're not mature enough to process it and as they continue to look at that stuff, they get desensitized from it to the point that they will engage in inappropriate behaviors and this can be worse if they have a mental disability like autism (I say this as someone who is autistic myself) as they can hyperfixate on these things and extrapolate their more socially questionable quirks. Like even you mentioned that as you were consuming the "content that you shouldn't have been seeing" at a young age, you were developing issues as well and well, that's to be expected because the content was made for children but you know the old saying, "kids will be kids" though instead of kids doing dumb things IRL, it's not being done over the internet because of easy access.

@ It's unfortunate but it's the reality now. I've heard similar stories about gen z admitting that they stumbled upon NSFW while still in middle school and it seems to be a much more recurring thing as the years go on...
@ But that's the thing, I don't think Synni really understood and saw that what she did was not right because again, no adult intervened and tried to correct her. Sure she had internet strangers trying to tell her once she got caught but it's not really going to hit the same, especially at her past adolescence age.
as an artist who grew up on the content kids shouldn't see, who got desensitised but still understands that violence upon another is a no-no, and who DOES draw dark and depressing stuff - kids shouldn't be ANYWHERE near it. ever. solid MDNI on my art accounts. my personal reason is mainly coping, but i don't blame those who do it for other reasons.
but if an adult, especially 21 years of age or older, doesn't realise that doing stuff they saw in media irl is a no-no, that's not the media or the other artists' fault, as they can't control who consumes their work. that's on the perpetrator themselves and that's the issue of their own psyche. arguing otherwise is the same as saying "shooter games cause school shootings", imo.
i chase those who directly harm actual people with a torch and a pitchfork. i refuse to touch artists tho.

Honestly I make content on Tumblr to have headcanons based on characters and their arcs, but also from personal experiences that I hate having being a part of me. It is not for kids, and any kids who hate it need to learn media literacy before they insult me. Same for the TikTok I no longer run and the Instagram I am migrating TikTok content to.

And, yes, i agree kids shouldn't see that gore and nsfw. But i think artists who make gore or nsfw can be sane and have reasons why they're making such content, as long it's out of the view of minors.

never understood the whole “darkshipper art style”. It just sounds chronically online, and only further pushes the idea that a problematic person has only ONE specific look.
That discourse never existed until more people got into fandom spaces because back then no one cared for what you did with fictional characters lmao. I don't like it but it's as easy as ignoring it...but kids now have more access to the internet and want it to accomodate to them and so nsfw creators are having a harder time.

Eh I think you should adjust the thumbnail. I just mean putting Thummin and nawii (can't spell) next to Synni, birdie, creepshowart, and peaches is not it, givin they haven't done anything all that bad or weird as conpared to the others.
This is not hate or anything, but grouping them all together just lumps them all as bad when at least 3 of them are far worse. Not saying they are necessarily innocent beings (hell peaches is pretty bad). But synni is a predator and birdie and creepshow both have reps so bad I don't think I can name everything they've been accused of.

I have a personal beef with art commentary :^) Omina legit not only outted one of my online friends to their stalker but they also put them on full blast :^) but hey when you have an issue with someone it's easier to sick your fans on them right? 🤷♀️ it got to the point said friend had to go to the hospital beacuse of a panic attack and left the internet entirely :^))) Also don't even get me started on how when the newer peaches stuff came up, instead of showing any actual care towards the victim onima used it as a "HAHA SEE PEACHES IS BAD I TOLD U SO!!!" They were hurt in a way no one should be hurt like at all, the stuff peaches did to them was shitty, but using your trauma to treat people badly ain’t it 😔

A kid that grew up around these types of communities some of these communities where pretty much 16 n older children like myself back in the day joined anyways didnt care and lied alot saying we are older than we actually are ,over time the communities also lowered the age rating due to all the children sneaking in because no matter how hard the creators tried the children came in even if you wanted them in or not , many of them simply gave up about moderation and now we have what is happening today ,there are alot more factors but keeping children out of communities is nearly impossible theyll find a way in theyll get in and they'll do anything to get in,i was like this , lied i got into places i shouldn't have I got lucky I didn't come out too messed up
Pretty much this is a build-up of a deterioration of rules over time both from the artist part and the relentless waves of children and predators normalizing things, making others slowly into what we know today
Im an artist, and I've chosen not to make a discord or any really interact much outside of comments for my own safety and to prevent my morals from being eroded like what happened with many of these artist
I hope my point of view helps others understand another side of the community one those who where children once in these communities dont talk about as it likely makes them look less like victims

I feel like in the case of art commentators, a good answer is also just extreme projection. That thing thing where you've done a bad thing but you call out other people who have done said bad thing and giving advice or ragging on them for it when you've *also* done it, whether that be the same or maybe even worse than the person you're calling out.
Another thing that adds on to projection sometimes is grandstanding and acting holier than thou, as though they could do no wrong. Often times if you prop yourself up to be such a beacon of good and does no wrong when those people fly into the sun they get burned harder than they otherwise would have been. Creepshow Art and HopelessPeaches are prime examples of talking about art topics or, most popularly, talking about or calling out certain bad actors. Meanwhile, they're exposed for also being horrible, terrible people whose reputation was so tarnished because, again, they propped themselves up to be good people. It completely destroys what people and / or their fans saw of them, and its not even the same person you would see in videos calling out people who have done bad things. Those were the people making videos exposing other people?
It could also be a myriad of other things people can suggest as to why a lot of art commentators end up being horrible but those are the two most prominent ones I can think of lol

It was mainly minors, most people creating the dramas were actual children. Adults in the commentary scene were just bullying petty kids drama while pretending like they were above it. A lot of the time it was bullying art style or something really dumb. Kids just having disagreements being made ten times worse because some random adult trying to feel good about themselves had to wade in and give their opinions.
As someone who’s been somewhat in the ACC/ANIMATION MEME community ever since Sonic93 was still relevant, it’s been nothing but toxic.
Cuz theres always seems to be a pattern of nitpicking, misinformation, etc. And said creators falling from grace every time.
Don’t get me wrong, every fandom/comms always have a few rotten apples in their groups. I do like hearing some commentaries, but sometimes I take some info with a grain of salt.
I just think we shouldn’t be surprised if said creators turn out to be awful people behind the scenes. As the old saying goes: Never meet your heroes.
