On visiting passiv houses I had an asthma attack each time, This is indicative of unhealthy air quality. It is very very unnatural. We evolved outside, as a child until school I was outside during the day except when weather was intolerable. My baby grandson cries to get outside. A better thought is needed. The window treatment is excellent imo, managing size and the covering. How does your air tightness affect mould growth and toxic volatiles from the internal materials.? CSIRO in 1977 was world leader in passive solar with an experimental home built in Canberra owned by my family since then and copied on other sites. Different approaches including airflow from base of windows and out the top. Warm, low heating and healthy.. Like your airflow under the flooring. taking advantage of the very large canberra solar hours annually. Interestingly to me, while renovating an 1840s Irish cottage in Paddington I lived thru winters with whole unwalled areas...open to the air, so an open fire and strong air currents. I loved that had spot heating for a warm and thrived. Thanks re the heating information re heat pumps, very helpful. Very helpful re the mechanical ventilation. Thanks Jenny. The lesser footprint is important as you spare the land and have more outside..

Passive houses have heat exchange ventilation. So exhaust air is warming up incoming fresh air. One should not just create a tight house.
