Ikamva Labantu Early Childhood Development Training Course

Ikamva Labantu’s award-winning Early Childhood Development (ECD) programme assists over 400 preschools, reaching over 20 000 young children in Cape Town’s vulnerable township communities.
One of the key activities in this work is training of ECD practitioners. Our training methodology is based on the principles of experiential learning and mentoring, aiming at enhancing the practitioners’ skills and practices, with a particular focus on the holistic development of young children, including infant care and language development.
Each year, 60 new trainees join this intensive 10-month training course, combining theoretical knowledge and mentoring at our model pre-school, and coupled with in-situ mentoring visits in the trainees’ own classroom.
Our training programme has been successfully implemented over the past ten years, with over 600 graduates to date. Their dedication to childcare and their commitment to learning is admirable. We are proud and honored to play part in improving the quality of early childhood development for thousands of vulnerable children in South Africa.
