Yet another use for paracord. Nicely done Sir. A few tips that could make this easier, would be to simply cut/remove those metal ends and poke a very small safety pin through the plastic end to feed the cord through more easily. Also, once you've finished threading your paracord, you can easily finish the ends of the plastic with some small electrical crimp terminal lugs. Crimp them on and they're surely to be stronger than those thin metal ends that originally came on the coiled plastic.
Nice vid. I tried this and found that coating the plastic coil with mineral oil as it feeds into the cord helps tremendously. But despite that it helped, the project proved far more challenging for a desired result than it was worth the effort. Easier to buy these on Ebay for a good bidding price. :)
Great vid. i need to start learning how to do things without pressing the "buy" button online lol smh. quick note: when I opened up the ends of my paracord it had a small group on cords inside that were blue. I tied the blue ends to key rings and pulled the rest through with no problem. running the coil through was a bit challenging. you just gotta take your time an pull the bottom just as much as you do the top. thanks for the vid.
Reverse wrap gives a better recoil and feed the paracord before you start..ie when the nylon is still straight then coil..into hot water...cool it off then reverse wrap. Hope it helps.
You can make the coil tighter by turning it in on itself. Or you can make your own coil by using trimmer cord by wrapping it around a dowel rod, boil it for 15 minutes, then ice it for 10...then turn it in on itself. But then you need to purchase the ring terminals and add them on the ends yourself. Or, like someone said, purchase one already made on eBay. I like using the GITD Paracord or paracord with a reflective tracer.
MsRotorwings I used .095 trimmer cord fits right in 550 sheath... so you can change the trimmer cord memory with a hair dryer or heat gun in place of boiling water...
I make them with .095 trimmer line and it's WAY easy! I can make any custom length l want. TH-cam is full of good vids. on this. But kudos for a heroic effort to a worth while end.
had a terrible time with the metal eyelet, so i removed, passed the cord and put it back in the end. Anyway, keep posting this stuff. Greetings from Ecuador
Each inner strand of 550 paracord can hold 50lbs. That means the sheath of 7 strand 550 paracord can hold 200Lbs. This would work great as a handgun lanyard attached to your molle plate carrier, so you don't lose your handgun during combat. Nowhere in the description did he say it was a piece of survival gear.
Great idea for an existing pistol lanyard, probably wouldn't want your piece hanging off the example lanyard in this video. Then again, the thickness might not fit.
What is this good for? Your taking away the most important part of the paracord and adding some plastic thing you bought from china to help save your life? Nah...I'll rely in my king cobras with impregnated fish hooks. That way I can use the business portion of the paracord for fishing line, clothes line, wtf line and for sutures. Approx 17' of cord. (17'•8 strands=a shit load of small, useful, strong string.) Oh yeah and its good for 550 pounds. Ha

"It's a lot easier than it sounds, it's kinda a pain in the butt" - Ok, sounds like a challenge. I'm in! Thanks

Nice work, bonus points for the Wookie reference and the SOG Power-Lock Multi-Tool.

Use weed trimmer material instead of the key coil...heat in water to form coils.
Hell yeah, probably stronger too if you use Stihl/Pro grade .095!
Can it support a large Frame Pistol? I just might use Coiled Telephone Cord then use a larger Black 550 Cord (Para Cord) for a Stealth Camo cover.
Would spraying a dry lubricant on the plastic coil make it slide easier? Have you tried that?

I've got the same multitool as you got it for christmas
Very cool! Thanks!
i thought to myself when the vid started,, how the hell is he gonna push that threw,, then i seen you pul it threw,, genious

550-cord: See wikipedia for "parachute cord".
really i'm interested of your stuff
Great vid...you like to play out of the box.....I'll build one for my knife...thanks ...Rusty
Is there a way I can do this with a micro usb cable?
That helped a lot it would help if you could look a mine thank you
i had both the white cord and then the keychain break on me
Use better lighter for shrink tube
Your cheap metal ring is going to break long before your cord.
any paracord under 25ft is to short... every survivorlist knows this.
That is really the hard way to do it.... :-/
5th
thumbs up for wookies
...toss that away.
