winter is a master at off the cuff commentary. it's why i watch these videos and never even played SC2. there's more to it than just commentating (or is it called casting) a game.
Clem, when he's on his game, is my favourite terran player to watch.
Hero is the similar counterpart for Protoss, but Clem is more consistently on his game.
And Dark is the Zerg equivalent.
So this match is one of the best.
17 minutes in, Dark just casually times a perfect retreat... amazing.

Those hellions frying the flanking lings made all the difference in the last game. If he lost them in a drone hunt the main attack would fail. Very well played by Clem.
The foresight to leave the hellions exactly where the zergling surround would be coming from, with room to retreat is so well calculated 56:15

I think one of the traits of being a pro sc2 player is poking to see the army composition of the opponent.. Clem's solo tank on the main base is a good defense to prevent nydus..

That first match pissed me off. If dark cant beat ghost tank thor how am i supposed to. I think they need to reduce snipe range and increase the time by 0.5 seconds to snipe. Snipe is ridiculously over powered.
Terran in general is OP, also im not playing sc2 im just watching Winter (i played alot of broodwar).
Maybe. Snipe cast time i wouldn't be sure about, it gives reaction time but doesn't exactly change anything else. reduction in range could make things less about the terran trying to keep thr zerg stalled and whittling them down though, because you have to dive in more.
The real trick to beating it is, of course, that you aren't playing against clem. Just fecking pull the trigger, what they going do, outmicro you? You have fungal, just press the button and they can't move, let alone micro.
@@Santisima_Trinidad The big problem I see when I see late game TvZ is that ghosts are exposed to minimal danger because snipes outrange almost everything the Zerg has and kills all his high tech units in one snipe. All he had to do was creep forward half a step, siege up again, and let the ghosts sit there and kill everything. Zero counterplay, because you can't even destroy the economy with ling runbys.
Something should be done, but I doubt it will because Terran is played twice as much as Zerg and Blizzard doesn't dare risk pissing off twice as many players.

Also, snipe needs at least 2 casts to kill most zerg units. But thats a nitpick
Should also note that it's hard to balance counterplay when zerg counterplay is "all your units belong to us", which means no matter how balanced your own forces are, zerg can just them against you.

game 2 is the biggest standoff i've seen in SC2, and it's sandwiched between comically fast games.
First match was easily a game of the year candidate
When I saw the map was Gresven and the non-Terran player did not had 3x the resources banked I knew Terran would win so I just skipped to the end of the match and I was right.
SC2 is a truly balanced game.
You can't tease me with nukes in the thumbnail like that. Im already hooked now

Game 2: The Book of Billy

I could not imagine brood lords with 3 extra range. That sounds unreal
By 12 minutes into the 1st game I would've started making or made 2 "kill squads" of 5 Banshees to harass the Lings/Roach/Ravager army.
Then transition into Ghosts with nukes that you place randomly to try and catch the zerg army, or to delete the zerg drones to reduce their instant reinforcement capabilities.
The Banshee squads can also knock out key buildings when possible, flank the army, remove key targets, or harass any retreat thereby increasing the time until they can next engage (get a little more breathing room between battles).
It's not a massive amount of supply to reserve, but the benefits can be phenomenal mid-game.
10 Banshees flanking an army that can't shoot back? What's not to love about that? 😍

The first game, when Clem is sieging top left and Dark throws broodlings at his ghosts, and Clem only cloaks the two or three at the front to save them from more attacks but at the same time get in the way of the broodlings and protect the remaining ghosts. The speed and the precision, holy crap.
I've ... come to the realization that ghosts are a necessary evil - terrans do need something to counter spellcasters and something beefier than marines. BUT having 30 ghosts at a time, which is not even expensive, just makes the game so much less fun - there's no actual counter to ghosts, especially with cloak and medivacs. My proposal is a limit of 8 ghosts at a time - not being the bulk of the army but a powerful support caster like every other race's spellcasters
I feel like the ghost utility should be split across multiple units. Like maybe move EMP to the Raven or something.
except they die to zergling/bane...tier 1 and 1.5 units
@@cavemantero a ghost costs less than the amout of banes required to kill him, just saying.
Obviously there are scenarios where they hit multiple ghosts/bio, but also many banes die before reaching their targets... And don't ghosts two shot zerglings with some upgrades?
i'm not saying the ghost is busted, but that the answer is not as simple as lingbane.

On the Ghost topic - Ghosts are required to beat Zerg, and that's why they HAVE to be so good until any other unit Terran has gains the ability to fight back against Infestors and Vipers. They're the only stopping block keeping those units from making it impossible for Terran to win.

I know I'm bad at the game but why does every single game vs Terran seem like such an uphill battle. How is it balanced?
It sucks as a zerg main. There is no good splash damage for zerg.
Yet zerg wins everything.
It's because Winter doesn't cast every game and not every game goes well for Terran, I believe the race that statistically wins the most at the high level it's Zerg by a long shot followed by Protoss with Terran sitting at 3rd for total wins.
The other two races typically get their economy up faster and get more bases, and the game is designed for them to crush the terran with their eco advantage. You can see in the first game that Dark lost his roaches in the attack on the 3rd and then lost his own 4th in the counterattack. After that Clem was about even on eco and Dark was on borrowed time, eventually the terran army critical mass and orbitals become too much and zerg losses. In the 2nd game the same roach timing attack worked and won him the game. In the 3rd game Dark was just unprepared for an attack, Clem had a huge army supply advantage before the fight despite Dark not taking many losses beforehand.

anyone else find rotating the screen to be disorienting? when its to show stuff happening behind air units i get it but otherwise it just makes it hard for me to keep track of the action

AAAHHHHH WHEN WILL PPL LEARN?!?! Roach-Ravager SUCK late game, their DPS is too SLOW, you need hydras and lings and banes in the mix too!
That's why every time Zerg would gain an army lead it's quickly wiped because roach-ravagers get picked off easy and Terr just sit there and heal quick. You need QUICKER damage to take out Terr piles.
Whilst lings can be sort of "sacrificial", when you have a leading army of something like roach-ravager, the lings are distraction AND the SEIGES blast THEIR OWN army too trying to take out the lings, which help IMMENSELY.
Tech switching to pure ling-bane afterwards is shit too because they don't move fast enough to catch up! Half the army is gone before you even REACH the Terr, and only IF they stopped partway or got held up by like a choke or something! You need ranged attackers to keep them busy whilst Terr retreat. Hence they ALL gotta be in the mix!!
Maaan...do not bring up ghosts being op...yes they are terran's best all-in-one unit...they are still not on par with queens. The problem isn't terran honestly imo its Zerg. Zerg is still the broken race. Banelings are still busted and Dark wasted half the game on RR instead of using the most broken unit in the game. Ultras suck and that shouldn't be how it is. If you want to blame something blame the liberators zoning potential in combination with ghost snipe cover. I think maybe Protoss should've gotten the 'liberator' and Terran gotten Valkeries back with maybe a ground attack upgrade that doesn't delete units like libs do. But that's only because Clem had to literally play a perfect long drawn out game to do it. He already had sick micro but now he's developed a macro and tactical game and now Terran's broken? No one can play like Clem except maybe Byun. Like lol ok.

zergling auto, baneling auto explode, hydras auto, corruptors auto, broodlords auto, ultralist auto, queens auto...wtf are you talking about? attack while moving? Ok sure then delete brood lords and swarm host and get something else. Siege tank should be able to attack while moving too.

pvt is quite balanced each time i watch it. you need to buff zerg, but then serral will wipe the floor with everyone else, so zerg will never get any buffs. and besides, blizz does not give a f about sc2

absolutely insane level of skill and great cast, thanks Winter. zerg endgame vs terran endgame looks quite hopeless though, tbh. they both control very complex armies that require a lot of micro. but terran efficiency is a bit too strong. so zerg just gets out of money, if opponents are matched so tightly in terms of skill.
and broods stats really piss me off. that unit meant to rule the sky vs ground, as it's crazy expensive and deal less damage, but it adds over time. why in the hell the range is so pathetic.
Take a look at it from the Protoss and Terran perspective.
Vipers and Infestors are so insanely busted in terms of how much 1-2 of them can shave off of extremely expensive armies. Carriers, Motherships, Thors and Battlecruisers... all EXCESSIVELY expensive and 'supposedly' effective units... Completely useless because of Abduct and Neural Parasite. (In late game)
And Dark has shown plenty of times that a ball of Ghosts isn't hopeless. And he's not even Reynor or Serral who are both more threatening Zerg players than he.
