There’s also an indirect buff/bug that Gief’s level 3 doesn’t activate on frame 7 but frame 6. If someone tries to drive reversal you and you block you get a punish counter from SA3.
From spectator side : It seems Capcom seen people parry a lot against Marisa because of drive gauge chip, they trying to reproduce the same thing for Gief. And given that parry got nerfed to get grabbed from far away, plus more recover frame. Players who block Gief normal would eventually have to do parry to not lose too much drive gauge, then Gief get to go for grab if opponent start doing parry.
Also, one of the strongest gief tools were his headbutt pressure, the drive gauge buff will be really good to make the opponent do something risky, which is very good since his famagr also got buffed
Gief needs a buff that will allow him to grab for the SPD and allow him to switch sides after the SPD. If gief is cornered. His SPD needs the option of placing the opponent in the corner afterwards. That would be sick.

Making wheel kick and knee safer is incredible! he may have been the only char in the game with no safe special moves. so he's becoming a street fighter! I guess now the main plan is to try and burn out the other players before they realize what happened. Like instead of elevating Gief to some of the better characters levels, they gave him the tools to bring them down to his, in a way.

At the very least the SPD and Siberian Suplex should be immune to normal grabs. This way the pressure on the character would have to be more intelligent, Zangief would become more dangerous, even when cornered, and it wouldn't break the game. He still doesn't have an invincible, the Lariat still doesn't have a hitbox against crossups... in my opinion the buffs should have been better.
I recently picked up Zangief for SF6 and am currently Diamond 2 with him. So in a way I’m pretty attuned to how he plays, but even I can see that he suffers from a lot of problem. Probably the biggest two or three things that harm Zangief is his lack of approaches and flawed specials and supers. 90% of the time I almost never use his Lvl 1 and 2 because of how situational they are, and even if you pull it off at the right context, they’re simply too easy to miss your hits. Lariat SERIOUSLY has to hit behind, I don’t know who thought it was a good idea to have the move whiff entirely on the back, but this hurts Zangief’s defense more than it already does. The 2HP Buff was honestly such a huge punch in the dick. That move is almost entirely useless to use in neutral. Sure, it can somewhat prove useful after a DP Whiff, but that’s really it. Some of the buffs to normals are pretty neat, but they aren’t useful enough to counterbalance Zangief’s awful defense and/or offense. I’m serious when I say this, if Zangief had his Banishing Flat like in previous games, he’d be SO much better… I’m still questioning to this day why Zangief lost his Banishing Flat
Im not sure about gief yet. All the changes were for the most part on damage or meter. The on hit pushback is nice, but his buttons in general are still pretty bad. Getting in is still a struggle, and lariat is still an inconsistent AA. Was hoping his level 1 would have the hitboxes adjusted. Its an AA but its not a good one and whiffs so often. If they want to make gief a chatacter who builds meter better and takes drive faster, his buttons and supers need to be better. At least it was all buffs though. Lily and Honda mains malding. Nerfing low tiers is crazy
These are smart buffs by capcom. Not making it easier for Gief to get in, just emphasising that he hits like a truck. Similar to Ryu having to work hard and honest in the neutral, but when he gets a HP with a Denjin stock he will end your life. I like the gauge-damage buffs for both characters too. Season 1 felt like it was defined by DR and neutral skip nonsense. Gauge damage and making DR a teensy bit easier to punish while rewarding characters that play more old school with big damage balances things out nicely. (I say this as a Ryu main muwhahahaha).
@ericksmart5563 Snakeeyez in the underground area 51 lab with Gief with these buffs. Trust that lol. He's about to really start winning a lot more now. Probably not majors but definitely a bunch of minor tournaments.
Boost his game plan I guess. Easier to grab people that go for a parry or a dry drive rush or they just whiff, easier to burn out people that block his attacks, safer normals so you don't get punished just from throwing a medium standing kick from anywhere other than across the screen.
Hi Mura as a Gief player i am not agree this time with you. Yes these are buff but these are not the buff that he need. The problem of Gief has never been damage and the meter gain just make him overall at the dame level as other because as a slow grappler you hit your opponant less overhol. It's just change the fact that when your opponant was at 3 you where at 2 or a little bit less same for drive meter. Better poke , good but he has already good poke and was bad. Better damage , he has already huge damage and was bad and to be honest the headbutt change make him combo with hellstab but it's not happening so much. You can do headbutt in oki and when you land a jump strong punch witch has a strange hitbox and has no range or 2HP witch as a strange hitbox too that make it wiff in lot's of cases. And oki with Gief ?? When??? On a sweap. I mean real oki not a drive rush one when you will not be at distance of headbut most of the time. Better meter gain for what his super are trash they don't change anything about them. These buff don't change what make Gief weak. I think Capcom needs to do some further damage reduction with Zangief. His output damage with everything now is way too high.
That's the only thing he has. He gets his ass beat but he can cover the lost ground with one combo or grab. Remove that and he is useless.
