  • Greg Chappell - The Coach
and the years spent under him are seen as the darkest period of Indian cricket.
& the start of that fall begun with the Sourav Ganguly Captaincy Controversy.
    IN a matter of months
    emails were sent
    allegations were levied
and the captain was thrown out
in the political turmoil that followed
Dada kept on trying his hardest to get back into the Indian team
but Greg Chappell and the BCCI seemed adamant on keeping him out
barring him in spite of a good performance in Pakistan he was made to sit out
and then Pepsi that was caught up in pesticide controversy came up with an idea for an advertisement
after having success after success with campaigns like dil mange more and oye bubli Pepsi was counting on Dada to change there legacy.
even departing from there new icon Rahul Dravid in doing so
and after the ad aired...after the group stage exit n the DLF cup and champions cup 2006.... India was standing on the verge of a whitewash in South Africa
what followed was such public well of anger and disappointment that went onto give Dada a chance for comeback...and propelled him into the team to reconstruct his legacy
Dada who was given a new lease on life by one advertisement that he didn't want to do
refused to do - was forced to do
It went on to change his career, his future his legacy in Indian and world cricket.

I loved Sachin from the first match I watched. At that time, I was annoyed by savrav's slow batting. But boy did that change overtime. If not among Indians....surprising comparisons of legends in those era:-
      1) India Sourav, SriLanka Sanath, Pak Anwar, Aus Gilchrist, SA Klusener and unshined Jacques Rudolph who didn't survive for long, NZ Stephen Fleming, Trescothick Eng, WI C Gayle. Only defective piece is Stephen Fleming who always played well Vs Ind and poor against other opponents and can't be compared much and also has poor conversion rates than all listed here but in a charity odi match post 2002 or 2004 I can't forget his quickfire 106 with 9*6 when he batted like a combo of Sourav Ganguly+Sanath Jayasuriya+Chris Gayle+Lance Klusener in one such match till today his that 106 is available in TH-cam highlights.
      2) India Sachin, SriLanka but lefthander Sanath here, NZ Nathan Astle righthander, Windies Brian Lara lefthander, Andy Flower Zom lefthander
      3) India R.Dravid, SriLanka Atapattu but still lower standard, Pak Yousuf Youhana/Md Yousuf who is little more aggressive than these 2, Windies Ramnaresh Sarwan, Zim Grant Flower, SA Jacques Kallis but can bowl regularly, Zim later stage Tatenda Taibu
      4) Ind VVS Laxman, SL Mahela, Pak Younis Khan
      5) Older generations Ind Azhar, Aus had 2 Azhars they are Waugh brothers in same team, Ind had lefthander Robin Singh also
      6) Ind Sehwag, RSA Gibbs, AUS Ponting
      7) Ind Yuvraj, AUS Bevan, RSA Jacques Rudolph less opportunities and didn't shine much, less shining for same Ian Blackwell Eng all these are Yuvraj category batsmen
Some of these players have similar style of cricket across the globe.
      8) Ind Ajay Jadeja, SL Upul Chandana, Pak Moin Khan, NZ Chris Cairns....this Cairns I d I o t also usually bats only well Vs against Ind had 4 odi 100s Vs Ind
      9) Ind Robin Singh, NZ Chris Harris
      Compensating innings:-
      1) Sourav had few ODI 100s Vs SL, Sanath had 8 Vs Ind, Sachin had 8 Vs SL
      2) Sachin had 8 100s Vs Aus, R Ponting had 8 100s Vs India

I still felt sorrow during his last test made 85 Vs mighty AUS and lbw 0(1) off Jason Kreja a waste spinner of Aus, he must have scored a ton in that 2nd innings lot of time is there, his 85 in that last test and one of the before tests also made an 85 IVs Aus I think.......but he still should have played till Sachin continued here and Sanath lucky to get many chances although promising youngsters came in their team.....Sourav I wish must have had a test career till 2011 atleast and odi career somehow till 2010. It is because MSD got captwincy awarded and by that time Ind is studded with talentful players......had Sourav been continued till 2010 and he was in captaincy , I hope Ind would have reaped much more benefits.....if he was there till 2010 the Odi team would have read a MY IDEAL 11 as Sourav, Sachin, Uthappa, Sehwag, Yuvraj, Raina, Dhoni, Irfan Pathan, Harbhajan, Zaheer,
Shami/Bhuvi/Munaf/L Balaji as 11th (removing Dravid, VVS after 2007WC completely).....giving youngsters a chance during that time apart from Yuvi, Viru, MSD is not a good thought and could have limited places to these players mostly....Post 2011 WC Sourav, Sachin, Dravid, VVS retiring at a time WOULD HAVE BEEN LOOKED AWESOME....Then would have welcomed PLAYING 11 of
Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Sehwag ,Yuvi, Dhoni, Raina, Amit Misra, Shami, Zaheer, Praveen Kumar......After 2019WC Sehwag, Yuvi, Dhoni, Raina, Misra must have been replaced.......I feel phasewise replacement of no players was also not taken care of properly, disrespected seniors from BCCI without proper farewell including seniors listed above .....one more problem is the outburst of T20 cricket saw many pool of players inpour ..

Dada scoring relentlessly after his comebacks.Making a thunderous comeback in 1996 then in 2006-07.Believe me its next to impossible to made such kind of comebacks at the international level. The standards are damn high the Bowlers, teams all knows your weaknesses thats why apart from Dada i have never seen an international player making a great Combacks twice in his life like a champion. Surely he is Comback King.

I was right hand batsman till Ganguly retired. After I heard he is retiring, I was so sad. So I changed as a left hand batsman to get him in my head every time I took my bat.
But, the most attacking I ever played, most easy looking shots I ever played, the longest six I hit, most off side score etc… came when I changed to left hand. I loved that man that much.
That energy in the “shirt off” moment at Lord’s is what I get whenever I take my bat.

  • @nilnil8411

One thing that Dada can never be is Selfish. He was probably the only Indian captain who was selfless enough to gamble his own position as captain to select players that the team needed and not necessarily what the selectors wanted. Under him India played like a united country revolving around his team with the dream of becoming the best.
Taking nothing away from Dhoni's immense contribution but if you ask any Indian fans who grew up watching Dada and his team, there's only one captain that led India like a true Lionheart.

The struggles which this man faced can never be compared with any of the other captain's..
Dhoni, Kohli they all are tigers, are stronger .They are aggressive but has a limit. Always avoid unwanted fights bcoz they were scared of their prestige, position, fame, even life......But Dada.. He was a Lion🦁.The fearless 🔥The one who protects and fight and even die for his pride.Indian national team was his pride. He is the only one who redesigned the indian team 💪Salute to The indian cricket's Michaelangelo🔥
