Her refusal to move to the back of a segregated bus ignited a boycott that lasted 381 days and helped transform civil rights activism into a national movement. Rosa Parks you shall not be ever Forgotten.
Rosa parks don't give up the seat cuz you have a rights to make us gives a freedom and courageous about the bus from Cleveland avenue and somewhere else to exchange the political party and segregation breaking down for at this institution. If she did that it would be easier way. But I love the inspiration lifetime of Rosa parks bringing up the powerhouse to those who having a hard time to having fight for justice.
Sorry, it's still unforgivable that I was told the Rosa Parks story as gospel truth in school as a child. You people actively lied, you are lying now. You cannot be trusted and will never be trusted so long as anyone is still alive that remembers you are liars. You deserved Donald Trump, you deserve Vladimir Putin and you deserve whatever else is going to happen. Because nobody can trust you nothing good can ever happen.

I like how they finally mentioned her livelihood. She worked as a seamstress to help make ends meet and didn't magically have means out of thin air as most biographies or videos about historically important people who struggled often neglect-why do they do that? Does having a job take away a sort of legendary status? I also liked how they honestly said her political activism made it hard for her to get a job after getting arrested. It's a real story that happens to many who fight the system to this day!
@Brownskikuca Garlic Bread There are definitely some people who do in places that need such fighters. But yeah, most present day social justice warriors in America are a parody of real reformers.
Unfortunately people losing their jobs over their political beliefs still happens.

We should celebrate her, but more or in fact something at all, should be told about the lives of Claudette Colvin, Viola Desmond, Elizabeth Jennings Graham, Mary Louise Smith, Aurelia Browder, Private First Class Sarah Louise Keys, and many more.
Did you actually watch the video? She worked for civil rights for our people. That was not inspired by a 15 years. She worked with the NAACP for many years!!!!!!!! She established a school. She was an activist!

This is just one example of how people already want freedom, and have little to lose, only need a spark to create a bonfire of liberation and organization. Sometimes humanity has a good side after all.
errr not to be a party pooper but it was 381 days which is a very significant difference since I realised it lasted for more than a year.

Why wasn’t Claudette Colvin mentioned? She was the first one to actually say no and what Rosa did was planned ahead of time, it was a staged incident. I’m not taking away from what Rosa did, but she wasn’t a mere victim, she planned it. Claudette was the inspiration for what Rosa later did

@Christian Tompkins This is a video specifically talking about the bus incident and what it changed. It's a logical place to name her 'predecessor'. When I watch a video about Apollo 11 I damn well expect them to acknowledge it wasn't the first rocket ever built, too.
The Browder v. Gayle case that ended the boycott would have been the most ideal context in which to mention her, because she was not the only person who resisted the system prior to Rosa Parks, but there were 3 others. The long history of people who had resisted the discrimination on buses in Montgomery also included Jo Ann Robinson, who was a major architect of the boycott. We might have considered Pauli Murray, or Ida B. Wells. With more time, there are so many illustrations that we might have explored, who paved the way to Rosa Parks. The Rosa Parks Children's Museum in Montgomery does an excellent job of spotlighting aspects of this longer history, alongside the tour in the main museum. The scripts we worked from were much longer and included more information in the beginning, but there's only so much storytelling that can be mentioned in such a short production. It's really an invitation to dig deeper. The father of the civil rights movement, E.D. Nixon, is often forgotten or sidelined in a lot of the dialogues on civil rights history, and doesn't receive a lot of emphasis here. But the main goal was to take up the life and story of Rosa Parks.
Love how they hearted almost every other comment. But when someone notices they have a massive glaring omission. They ignore that comment.

I'm glad to finally see a more accurate portrayal of her life. We often see a summed up, short event making her seem frail when in reality she had been working hard throughout her entire life. It's sad that it's often overlooked how many other amazing things she did.
I'm thankful to have been a part of this project and so agree with you. Even so, there's so much more that our short time did not allow us to cover. Really, the challenge is to continue to study her. I highly recommend the brilliant political biography written by the historian Jeanne Theoharris, along with the several books published by Rosa Parks.

She was my hero as a kid I would always love doing projects on her but in all my years I never learned most of this, I feel like school was very minimal on what we were allowed to learn...
Rosa Parks so loved children, devoted much of her work and activism to their causes, and would have been so inspired to hear that you embraced her legacy as a child and did projects related to it.
The animation is haunting at parts but so suitable for this video. Thanks for spreading her story in such an accessible format!

I remember reading and being fascinatd by a short story in my English book named "Rosa Park sat still", as a little kid. I'm from India and knew nothing about the American history, didn't even understand it completely then but I definitely remember a strange feeling of pride that I felt after reading that story. :')

Why do people keep insisting that Rosa Parks was merely a tired old lady who accidentally became an activist? This story is so much more fascinating, it's Hollywood material.
She was not at the time she was on the bus. So, she was not tired because of her age. She was older when she received awards! Nothing that she accomplished was acidental.
