I feel this way about denominations and churches. First, with my extensive research and acquired exergesis knowledge on religion, I know that "GOD" only wants you, me, us to search for, and STRIVE for the betterment of ourselves through the WORDS HE has left behind for you, me, us, to follow and live by to the vbest of our ability and knowledge. Religion is and has been the BIGGEST hang-up in our history since the beginning of time. As long as you, me, us, believe that "GOD" choice Jesus Christ.
to die for your and my continuous SINS, and you, me, us do our best to life and search for betterment the best we now how, then "GOD" and you should be at PEACE. Claiming a denomination doesn't define you, me or us...how we strive for the acceptance of our "GOD" through our day-to-day struggles with the world, ourselves, and others does that. NO one...and NOTHING else. AMEN!
I was raised Pentecostal & we were taught that being Pentecostal.was.the only way to.heaven, when I joined my current church.which is Baptist I joined not because of the denomination I joined because the sprit of God dwelled there, I dont feel.restricted,.Pastor Vernon made some.good points, im not about joining a church because of the denomination, im about joining.a.church.where.God is.the.center & where his.sprit dwells
That's a powerful message Denominational difference. The gospel is the good news of Jesus. Our faith hinges on the death, burial, and resurrection. If your confidence is in your denomination, you're missing the point. Faith is relational, not religious!
I love my pastor!!! This us my church and we or the ministry are not masons!!! We are just saved and sanctified, you all are welcome to come to Cleveland and join one of our services!!! Wordcity.org , be blessed
Denomination is a label, the doctrine, that is taught is the major factor of denomination. Denomination means to divide, therefore, united we stand and divided we fall !!!
Rev. Vernon... you were Baptist and still would be if the church you pastored didn't put you out... We don't preach denomoniation... As Baptist we preach and believe in the fullness of the gifts given to the church. the National Baptist Convention doesn't hold power over the local Baptist Church. Vernon in this talk you just defined yourself as a New Denomination... you proved it by saying you built a brand and told the pastor you planted to stick to your brand...
PASTOR VERNON WAS RIGHT. IN THE BEGINNING THERE NO DENOMINATIONS. ONLY THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH. THE CHURCH HAS GOT SO RELIGIOUS AND DIVIDED CAUSE OF DENOMINATIONS. HE DID NOT SAY NOTHING WRONG ABOUT COGIC. MAJORITY OF COGIC CHURCHES DO THE SAME TRADITIONS
I think he was referring to his brand as himself to the point where if someone is preaching under him representing him then that preacher must be of the same understanding which is Non-Denominational. Kind of like like if I had children then they need to represent my name & no one else because they are my own. =)
I was raised Catholic & married/ divorced. I remarried a Baptist, I got baptized and been going to that church...I'm having a hard time feeling it. I've visited other Baptist Church and it feeds me..so now My husband feels guilty I've changed church...help what do I do?
Ms. Jones where in scripture chapter and verse will I be able to read about a Baptist or Catholic church in scripture? Theirs only one true church in scripture, its certainly was name or called any of these denominational names. Its name & the doctrine jesus taught his disciples. Every denomination have a different doctrine which creates division. Paul ask the question is Christ divided 1st Cor 1:13?
The Church of God in Christ is an organization founded upon holiness not a denomination. We are pentacostal which is the denomination. God gave Bishop mason the name C.O.G.I.C. and biblical doctrine to back it. To say that we are defining ourselves is true! It is a church founded on the word of God just like any church, non-denominational or not should also be.
Con'td: Also, adherence to COGIC doctrine unites as well. My COGIC church is not a traditional COGIC church, but that doesn't mean I'm not COGIC or redefining the denomination, that's absurd. I can't speak for other groups, but pastor Vernon was off by a thousand yards concerning COGIC.
by pastor vernons definition: if no one has the right to redefine a denomination, then who redefined the first century church? & if redefining a denomination is out of order & disrespect, then isnt redefining the first century church disrespect to God? & if its your brand that u dont want redefined, then who changed Christ's brand? If a church is not like the first century church in doctrine, (not style) then its disrespect to Christ and doesnt belong to him. Christ has one church Rom16:16
Great message! Here is food for thought. Jesus himself was "non-denominational." lol! he never connected with the religious groups (i.e. scribes, pharisees, saducees, herodians etc.) of his day.
powerful word and all, but I was with him until he got ta talking about what others would think and say about him and his brand. Question: Whose Church is it, and I thought that it's suppose to be about Jesus Christ and not about us and our brands!?! I'm just asking
Apostolic= Apostle, like. denominations are more of a joiner than a separator. Because every apostolic church I know preaches water baptism in Jesus name and recieving the Holy Ghost evidenced by speaking with other tongues as the Spirit give utterance. anyone who believes that and hears your apostolic immediately has that family connection they know your core beliefs.
Great stuff, but he seems to have a monolithic view of denominations in that every COGIC church, for example, must be pastored or adhere to standard traditions which is not true. I can't speak for any other denominations, but there is great diversity of churches in COGIC, not all wear white on first Sunday and so forth. The pastor's particular ministry context and ecology will determine how a pastor approaches ministry, not a denominational template per se.
great word, until you talked about "BUILDING A BRAND". It's not your church and never will be. This is the subtle deception of successful organized church. A brand is a denomination within itself. Beware all.
Odis Richmond Denominations are "brands". A brand is a label. Attached to that particular brand or label are expectations of how that particular congregation does things. Dont get hung up on the usage of the word "brand". Yes I know it sounds commercial but he could have easily substituted "brand" for "culture". It still all ties in to the larger point he's making.
"The Brand"......smh. Non-denominational....literally means to stand for nothing. At least with those that "define" themselves we all know where they stand doctrinally. Just because you do things in Jesus' name doesn't make you a part of him or his church. Matthew 7:22-23

Amen Kevin. If the true word of God is going forth, how could you be restricted?
I was there in the service LIVE when he taught this. Very eye-opening!
Lord have mercy! I thought I was the only one. Thank you Pastor Vernon. I refuse to be limited to the denominational flow...
I concur. The truest exegetical Preacher alive.
In your opinion!
ephesians 4:5 one lord one faith one baptism . enough said awesome teaching
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS!!

Mr Webb where in scripture chapter and verse did Jesus or his disciple talk about denominational churches? Who authorized them?
whoa. i wish the rest of the message ws posted. is the full message somewhere on the net?

That was good!
@NormaJones Question: Did you accept Jesus Christ as savior and Lord before being baptized?
wow!
I was raised Catholic & married/ divorced. I remarried a Baptist, I got baptized and been going to that church...I'm having a hard time feeling it. I've visited other Baptist Church and it feeds me..so now My husband feels guilty I've changed church...help what do I do?

So, what's the purpose of being affiliated with your denomination?

Salvation is in Jesus not religion or man. 🙏🙏
what is he talking about?

My brand??? God help us.....

I've never heard of a church having a brand! Good point
@dmoore76 of course Jesus was holy but he was not apart of what you deem to be the "Holiness" denomination. you are stretching! lol!
@dmoore76 Jesus was not denominational! he belonged to no relegious group whatsoever.
BAPTIST
"The Brand"......smh. Non-denominational....literally means to stand for nothing. At least with those that "define" themselves we all know where they stand doctrinally. Just because you do things in Jesus' name doesn't make you a part of him or his church.

love the word and i did listen to the work...but i really like that coat! can i have it! lol jk!
where is any of that in the scriptures?? Lol! these pastors really need to get it together!! so funny
Non Denomination is the ONLY way 🤷🏾♀️
