Does anyone know if Yamaha is planning to release a newer version of this keyboard anytime soon? I want to purchase it but am wondering if they'll be coming out with a DGX "670" or something similar anytime soon. Any ideas? Thanks for the great vid!
I'm on my 3rd DGX - basically I upgrade every other model. The DGX line seems now to get refreshed every 3+ years so its 'possible' there could be a new version in 2019. If so, the first you'll probably hear of will be from the NAMM show in January. Then expect at least 60-90 days before they start shipping to dealers (maybe the March-April timeframe). In other words, a new model MIGHT be available 8 months from now. Or not. Considering what they've already added at the current price point, they may choose to wait another year for the new model. If you don't already have a DGX I'd recommend go ahead and taking the plunge on either a used 640/650 or a new 660 and spend the next 8 months learning all the functions that are available. Then, when and if a new version comes out, you'll have a better understanding of what the NEW features are - and (more importantly) if those features are actually important for your use. (BTW - whichever one you get, make sure you get the LP7A 3-pedal accessory. Its only $75 and it not only gives you additional piano dampening, it keeps you from having to chase down the sustain pedal that inevitably scoots all around the floor.) And I also recommend buying from Sweetwater. I have bought several small and big ticket items from them and they have EXCELLENT customer service.
Jeff - do you know anything about the new P515 coming out? One thing I loved about playing the DGX 660 is the full speaker sound. What are your thoughts on the new P515 or the P series in general compared to the DGX-660? Thanks!
I'll be happy to share my opinion but I'm by no means an expert. I view the P-series as a more serious instrument for more accomplished pianists (as opposed to "consumer grade" - for a semipro or recreational keyboardist such as myself). I have not played the new P515. But I have played a P-255 and a CP4 which are both higher end digital pianos. Both have excellent workmanship and are beautiful pieces of musical furniture. The P-series speakers are potentially slightly better than what is in the DGX but frankly, I just don't have a good enough ear to be able to really tell much of a difference. My DGX speakers fill my practice room at home for larger areas such as church I am plugged into a mixer and amp. The main difference I see is that whereas the DGX keyboards have hundreds of voices including many variations of things such as accordions, organs, brass, synth, bells, in addition to the piano, electric piano, etc., the P-series tends to provide many more variations of the Piano voices itself - including more emphasis on high-end piano samples, and being able to slightly adjust the sound of the piano voices for different conditions (lid open, lid closed, lid slightly open). Yes, there are additional non-piano voices in the P-series - they just don't seem to be the main focus of the P-series. Both instruments allow you to layer 2 sounds and split the keyboard, but the DGX also has other "fun" features such as onboard 6 track recording that a "serious pianist" just wouldn't do (I guess). I suppose if I were a classically trained pianist and a demanding audiophile I would lean towards the P-series. But for the money, the extra fun features and my use (home enjoyment, church and other vocal accompanist, etc.) I find the DGX to be more than adequate and an excellent value. I personally am not a good enough player to justify paying more for a P-series that will give me less capabilities.
Hey, Jeff, excellent your review, even though not being and expert, like you said. Also, very interesting your point about the cost benefit, showing that your feet are firmly planted on the ground. Congratulations.
Great questions! The DGX-660 can record 6 tracks and up to 30,000 notes, with 80 minutes of max recording time. There are 205 accompaniment styles with 15 drum kits. The mic input is TRS only and does not provide phantom power. There is an unbalanced stereo output for headphones, but no other outputs. If you have any other questions about that keyboard or others, feel free to reach out, we're happy to help you! Hi, Mikael! The piano sounds on both units are going to be pretty similar, I love the sound of Yamaha Grand Pianos. The major difference between these two would be if you are looking for a lot of different voices to choose from, or if you are just looking for a nice at-home piano that doesn't have a lot of tones to choose from, but covers the strings, organs, pianos, etc. Choosing between the two really boils down to what you are hoping to achieve from the piano itself. If you are playing with a band that does a variety of music, I would go with the DGX-660. If you are an at-home player that needs a solid piano sound and not all of the bells and whistles, then I would definitely go with the P-125. I hope that this helps. Let us know if you have any more questions! Maryann Shirley, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1774

Hello, Salma! Thanks for your inquiry. The DGX-660 will certainly function as a MIDI controller to a computer, Mac or PC. In the case of GarageBand, Mac. You'd simply plug a standard USB cable into the USB Type B (to host) connector and the other end into your Mac to send and receive MIDI data straight into GarageBand. Best part is that it's plug-n-play, no drivers needed. If you chose to go wireless instead of using a USB cable, the Yamaha UD-BT01 could be used. Please feel free to contact me directly to discuss further, or to place your order. Greg Savino, Sweetwater Senior Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1357

Hello! The DGX-660 is a much more fully featured keyboard instrument, whereas the P-125 is meant to be a fairly straight forward piano. The DGX-660 has 554 voices, an arranger auto accompaniment feature, and a 6-track audio recorder, compared to the P-125's 24 voices (and none of the other options).
Is there a recording feature? How many songs can you record? How many styles are there of drum patterns? Does it have a XLR mic input? Stereo outs?
Great questions! The DGX-660 can record 6 tracks and up to 30,000 notes, with 80 minutes of max recording time. There are 205 accompaniment styles with 15 drum kits. The mic input is TRS only and does not provide phantom power. There is an unbalanced stereo output for headphones, but no other outputs. If you have any other questions about that keyboard or others, feel free to reach out, we're happy to help you!

Is there anything coming up for the DGX LINEUP ANYTIME SOON?
No
Thank good review. How about its piano sound compare to P125 ? So.. better this or P125 ? I need to decide to buy. Thanks !

Will the iOS pianist app work with this keyboard any Harmony FX in voice section with the mic
Hello, Pastor Walter! You can use an iOS app with this DGX-660, as shown in the "videos" tab on Yamaha's site below:
usa.yamaha.com/products/musical_instruments/pianos/portable_grand/dgx-660/audio_video.html#product-tabs
There is not a vocal harmonizer you can apply to the microphone input of this keyboard.
Thanks for the message!

Thank you
Is there is any oriental voices or styles ?
Super!
One thing I didn't understand - When you click 'send to the instrument" - it creates a "New Style"?
What is the piano style settings for the first part
Nice
It was great!
Is this piano light weighted
i dunno...its missing something...the sound.not full....but for the price i guess its good..
If I add a microphone can I add effects the microphone? Or kinda make it like a talkbox?
Hello! The DGX-660 does have some vocal effects, which you can see on page 71 of the manual linked below:
uk.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/3/739463/dgx660_en_om_a0.pdf
It doesn't have a talkbox effect, for that you may want to investigate the MXR M222:

This animal is a great value. I also own one. Too cool not to have.
So no Android support? Not everyone likes Apple.
Yes it does.
For the Lesson 3 Minus One function where it grades your performance on the song presets, is there a specific rubric for how to get a grade of Excellent (or any grade for that matter) on a song? Does it depend on the percentage, or number of wrong notes for the performance.
Is the sound from this DGX 660 more beautiful then the sound of the P125 ???
Its better the sound of the P-125 by his speakers! Its more real. Great but the YAMAHA DGX 660 sounds very well and realistic too.
Is this equal to DGX 660S?
How about getting the Church Organ expansion compatible?
Please advise me. Thank you.
Hello, Murphy! I believe the part number "DGX-660S" refers to the stand, which comes included with the DGX-660 keyboard. I'm sorry, but I'm not familiar with the "church organ expansion." If you can call me, I would be glad to look into it. Thanks for your interest!

If you could purchase any Yamaha portable digital piano, would you choose this DGX660 model?
Hello, John! The DGX-660 would absolutely be a top choice. But in order to recommend one specific model for you, I'd need to know more about what type of music you're looking to play, and how you plan on using the piano. Do you have a moment to call me at my number below? Thanks for your interest!

How can I connect it to mac to use it with Garageband?which cable?
Or can i connect wirelessly to Garageband through the yamaha wireless device?

Hello, Elton! Yes, you can purchase and download extra DGX660 styles from Yamaha's website here:

May I know the difference between DGX-660 and P-125 (except the price)? 660 was released in 2016 while 125 was released in 2018, so I want to know if 125 would be a better choice. Many thanks
If you'd like to go into more detail, feel free to call me.

I know i am super late on my question. I wanted to know can you use the DGX-660 with FL Studios?
Hi, thanks for your interest! Yes, the DGX can be used as a MIDI controller with FL Studio or any other DAW. Let me know if you have further questions!

hi ,gr8 review , i am thinking about buying it ,how's the action key comparing to P-125 ?i played on the p-125 and loved the action key mechanism ,hope its the same for 660 :)
Liran M I know your comment was from 2 months ago, I did a video music recording of me playing this piano at guitar center, I’m mainly a guitar player, but I will say the action on the piano to me is pretty good, now the weighted keys are what got me feeling pretty comfortable with the piano, the lower the notes the keys are heavier and the highs are lighter. . If you want you can check out my video... th-cam.com/video/v7ipb5_nRYg/w-d-xo.html
Its sounds okay, I recorded and did the video edit with an iPhone, but aside from that, I’m definitely getting this piano when I’m ready to up the cash for it
Is there a way to edit the different temperaments with this piano? Such as Werkmeister and the Well temperament?
Hello! The DGX-660 does not allow you to adjust the temperament of the tuning. I did a bit of investigating, and found that the Roland FP-60 and FP-90 models do have temperament adjustment:

What the app name is mate?
What do you people think of the "attack" or sensitivity? Thanks in advance
It is touch-sensitive and I find it very good, though the keys are a little "heavier" than usual pianos and can hear the keys pressing down even when the sound isn't on.
@@victoriaduguay4329 vielen Dank!!
Yamaha dgx660 is a synthetizer too
Hell NO!!! You probably think so but this ain't anywhere near what a synthesizer sounds or feels like....let alone the functionality.
What cable would I need in order to connect/record this piano through my mac?
I would like to record using logic, did not know if it was possible. If not, what platform do you use to record the piano? Thanks
Victoria Duguay u can record with whatever app u like. I think There’s a feature in the piano where you can plug a usb drive in the piano and press record and it will automatically save it in the usb
@@boulahbel yes! currently I use the usb and record using that, but I would like to use the piano, almost as a MIDI where I can play and record straight from Logic Pro. (I am not professional at this).
Victoria Duguay simple..you just need a usb to host cable for midi and connect the piano to your computer.
Hello, great demo, do you know if the keyboard runs with garage band on the ipad?
Thanks
Hi, Thiago! The DGX 660 will be able to work with Garageband on your iPad, as it will recognize the MIDI data coming into it. Depending on what version iPad you have, you will have to get an Apple adapter to make the connection, but you should be able to set the MIDI input device as the keyboard. Let us know if you have any more questions!

Thank you for the feedback! I apreciate that!
Hi ! Reading the owner's manual I see that the sound of the microphone can ONLY come out through the built-in speakers. Is this an error in the manual ? I can believe this

What about us Android users? It's so annoying Yamaha wants us to use IOS devices. :(
Exactly, with Apple everything is a rip off
I guess Apple usually wins when it comes to photography (If you don't want to build an editing pc) and music (garage band) so Yamaha just wanted to appeal to Its target demographic. It's a shame how much you're paying for the logo.
But in a recent review of Yamaha's p125, the reviewer said that android support is coming soon
Is it just me realize that it is like 666 ? D6x 660 b ??
DGX -660
This is not arranger or keyboard. It's digital piano.
does this keyboard have heavy keys?
I would, never purchase another Yamaha keyboard. I purchased the Roland rd2000 is a much better keyboard in my opinion.
Show D+ like 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Is there a difference between the DGX-660 Arranger and a DGX-660 Digital piano?
Hello, Patrica! It's Greg over at Sweetwater Sound. Yamaha makes only one model of the DGX-660, and it's a Digital Piano with Arranger capabilities. Or, it's an Arranger with a great Digital Piano. Either way you look at it, it's one in the same instrument.
Please feel free to contact me directly with any other questions.

Sweetwater do u guys ship to canada?
Can you operate all that without using a stinking I pad ?
Wtf is with everyone always playing this kind of music in reviewing pianos xD
Why only for Apple not very smart from Yamaha...so if you use Android don't buy this piano...!
This or the P515? Heeeelp! :(
This
Very good your video but Don’t play Samba or Bossa Nova like a Latin Jazz! isn’t the same thing! Thx!!
Disgusting colour on a piano or keyboard.
White looks so awful ;)
this keyboard is a total waste of money!!
Ugly color :D
I love things ― in gorgeous white!
It exists in black
