One thing you mentioned that is the greatest thing about these bikes is there is no clutch, no gears. Just throttle. I have watched electric motor cross racing with gas and the electric bike ate their lunch, primarily because the ride does not have to down shift or up shift just power off in corners and snatch the throttle out and it is just gone! Plus the other rider can't hear you coming up behind them.
I was so surprised that when I rode an unlocked one, it didn’t have any bite down low. I was expecting an electric bike to be like a Tesla & should have that instant torque. It went ok mid speed, but I wasn’t impressed, thought I was going to buy one that day, nope. Just a 250 dirt bike is infinitely more fun.
Man that thing is bad to the bone!! I want one . I have been a motorcycle guy since I could climb on one. I am 60 now and want a play toy. I rode a 650 Suzuki Enduro from Outerbanks of North Carolina to Costa Rica and back over a month and a half in 92 what a trip! But with all the noise and restrictions now due to wild fires and encroachment of neighborhoods on riding areas I see this as a great option. Do you know top speed? How is the torque? I am 5’10” between 180-190 is the suspension tunable? What are your weight height etc??? Sorry but really excited!
How does she climb? What about pointing it down a line? How much travel on the forks for descents and how does she do standing on the pegs? I had a WR250 with a Scott front stabilizer and geared down with some proper tread. The Yamaha always felt like a heavy bike power to weight ratio and was good as a desert bike and technical sections. It performed well in rock gardens, but it was limited by the power to weight ratio. The Sur Ron is light some I. Thinking it’s good for tight single tracks and regening on the 20 minute downhill runs.
Depends on terrain and riding style but I usually get a couple hours of hard riding. I did a pavement only ride the other day.. rode 20 miles (not always at full speed) and had 60% remaining when I got home
I test rode one expecting to buy it that same day, but I have to admit that I really missed the low end power. It didn't feel powerful enough at all even though it was unlocked. Maybe it's because I have a KTM 500 that I use in the woods. I know you obviously can't compare the two but still.. People on TH-cam are really hyping the surron but in reality it was a big let down for me.
I wouldn’t even ride one with the thought process of comparison to my dirt bike. I’d be thrilled to bomb around town and what not all stealth like, avoiding the cops! 😂 🤷♂️
