      So what happened was whirlpool sent me a brand new burner an a repair man free of charge ,I changed the thermostat myself bought it at Amazon ,there’s two types so be careful, it’s best the pros install the burner cause they calibrate them,check your warranty if it’s not too old complain and complain!its you’re job to make sure water doesn’t drip in from the ceiling vent when it rains I put roofing tar to make sure any water leaks will mess up the tin burner in no time, hope this helps🙂it’s important that the burner stays dry and clean!

    It still amazes me that people don't get a plumber every 2 or 3 years just to do a basic check of plumbing systems. Yet they spend a fortune keeping a car in good condition which costs a hell of alot more than replacing a water heater every 10 to 20 years. Most houses would only take about 1 hour. Often a plumber will identify this sort of thing before it happens.

      Because people with common sense can do it themselves as home owners. Average residential products are common sense proof including the newer heater systems more for safety and efficiency. If my house is old instead of paying a plumber I rather skip and upgrade my aging system rather than checking a system I know is old

    • @napster2890
      @napster2890 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cr1m203 Common sense does not come into it. I used to teach Plumbing and gasfitting at our local trade school and this is one this is one that I would rarely say. You only know what you know. What you know is something that has been taught. How you learn is beside the point. Unless you have been taught and/of taken the time and effort to learn how do you know. When I was on the tools it used to amaze when customers would say "It is common sense" to do this or that when i knew what they wanted me to do was simply wrong. After a few years experience i leaned the hard way just to walk away.

    Yesterday, at about 2am, I heard a loud bang, like a firework, and I thought, "Who the hell is doing fireworks at this hour?!" So, I looked out my window, and I saw a bright orange glow that looked really close. I also heard a whole bunch of fire trucks, and I knew that meant only one thing- a huge fire. It turns out that a malfunctioning water heater ripped through three apartments down the street from me, blowing a huge hole in the roof of the building. Thankfully, no one was injured, but, those who lived in that building lost everything they owned to that water heater. This is why it is absolutely vital to care for your appliances properly. If you don't, they will malfunction and possibly destroy everything you own- maybe even take your life.

      improper care will not cause your hot tank to explode. it will just cause the T&P to trip.
      improper maintenance will cause an explosion. when it starts spewing water from teh t&p valve (bronze valve on the side or top of tank), don't cap it to be cheap. either shut it down and live without hot water or replace it.

I’d say 500 psi aught to cover it! And then tell them his ideas about a water heater and tell them to get closer so they can hear it bubble....... do you hear that gurgling noise and cracking? @@monkeyking-self-proclaimed7050 Honeywell is the thermostat controller which is used for many different brands. For your safety, you can turn off the gas supply. In the video, there's a red valve near the wall on the yellow gas hose that connected to the Honeywell thermostat. Just turn it to off position (typically 90 degree). So you don't have to worry about it. Good luck!

  • @krazi77

    first problem, flexible gas line going to the water heater. (that yellow one) second problem, using a small cigarette lighter to ignite the pilot light. problem 3, a plumber that knows what they're doing would never ignite an empty water heater. problem 4, "do you hear it now?" after they've been told to step back. at 3:46 it popped the flame. I would think that's from inadequate venting, possible back draft from the flue. "its torching my parts," you shouldn't have your parts that close to fire. them, they? what rank is on your plumber's license? how old is this water heater? they have a life expectancy of 10 years. if this is older than that, it's your own responsibility to replace the water heater. repairing your water heater without proper licensing and training can void your water heater's warranty, and possibly your home owner's insurance. every water heater needs to be inspected after installation by your local plumbing inspector.

      @@leathercheerio1 it shows laziness for starters. it should be rigid black metal schedule 40 pipe from the wall. flex line can be ran inside ceilings and walls as long as it's properly supported every 16 inches. from the wall to the appliance it needs to be rigid black metal pipe. the only exceptions are for slide in appliances, such as a clothes dryer or a gas range. it also needs a drip leg on the pipe.
