The problem is that LXDE is no longer supported so no new updates are being added to the desktop. Although Debian still supports it. The software such as web browsers, media players and other apps will get updated. But the LXDE software and desktop won't. Also LXDE is still on GTK2 while the other desktops have moved to GTK 3 and 4. That itself could be a problem as other apps might not work. So I cannot recommend LXDE as it is no longer being developed. Also any bugs will won't be fixed. I took a look at the WattOS forums and when I click on any of the posts the link is dead or broken. So I think the forums is either offline or the servers are down. I think if they need to changed their desktop to one that is still being supported as Lubuntu have done rather than stick with one that isn't.
A debian-Based distro that uses being "minimal" as it's selling point is like a Arch Linux-based distro using the fact that it is a rolling release as its main feature.
WattOS came out at a time where minimal low powered distros were needed. I was a WattOS user back in the day when my systems were Celeron/Duron based. They have a very small team from memory at one time it was only the founder that was the entire team.
Biff Baxter was that single developer. and I used wattOS from about 2010 until its ending with R8 on an intel atom based 10" netbook. i remember having a hard time finding anything else that would run on that thing. wattOS did and was great.
Maybe the maintainer of this distro just wanted his own light distro just so he could pirate stuff in a disposable machine. That is why Transmission and not much else. If he was familiar with debian and not Alpine, this might track.
How does one build their own installer? i want to make my own basic debian build but have flatpaks, probably cosmic de for enivroment. that ways i wont have to do everything over again if i reinstall.
LXQt beyond LXQt 1.4.0 is painfully broken on Debian, as the DE wasn't designed for Debian, maybe for Ubuntu although it's questionable to even acquire newer versions for it.
I'm a bit of a fan of LXQT. Used to run Lubuntu for years on my old netbook. Now on my old Thinkpad, its Debian with LXQT. So a Debian based "Lebian" might work :) lol
I like MX .. but I can't get behind ant^fa and the wok3 debian handlers either.. I've been on Nobara for a week or two and it has been great. I had to drop Firefox because it was spiking my CPU like crazy.. but Edge works great.
I do a weekly exclusive podcast for all of my supporters! patreon.com/thelinuxcast if you want to check it out
Watt the fork
Opportunity missed. That shoulda been the title

um actually, you can play video files and listen to audio files using firefox... 🤓
I am to the point where I agree that all distros are useless except for actual Debian, and Arch themselves.

Hey Matt, keep on going with the WTF Series!
WattOS came out at a time where minimal low powered distros were needed. I was a WattOS user back in the day when my systems were Celeron/Duron based. They have a very small team from memory at one time it was only the founder that was the entire team.

thanks for saving us the time of trying out WattOS lol, great review! I will be staying away from this distro
The amount of energy Matt used to turn awful things into the word "weird" is so funny 😂.
It was my favorite adjective in this vid. I noticed that when editing. Lol
keep doing this, thx Matt!
With so many minimal distros, why can't we have one that is maximal?
Comes with every single package, from the repos
I think that’s called Arco Linux
anything GNOME or KDE with the full install is basically what you're looking for :)))
Pika OS is pretty maximal Debian-SID based Distro. It's very heavy. But, extremely performant.
wattOS was a good option for ultra-low spec machines because it ran from RAM. and was its main "selling" point back on versions R4-R7.
Finally this series is back (before gta6) & it's my fav one.
Was good as a 32bit distro lighter than Ubuntu. They no longer offer 32bit.
Maybe the maintainer of this distro just wanted his own light distro just so he could pirate stuff in a disposable machine. That is why Transmission and not much else. If he was familiar with debian and not Alpine, this might track.

So your take is:
"At least lie to me" -- lol
also openbox window manager havn't been maintain FOR YEARS man dana she kind of just stop the project at 3.5
its not a distro its a spin of debian
I thought everyone moved from LXDE to LXQt already...
Me too
why would anyone choose this over vanilla Debian with LXQt is beyond me.
I'm a bit of a fan of LXQT. Used to run Lubuntu for years on my old netbook. Now on my old Thinkpad, its Debian with LXQT. So a Debian based "Lebian" might work :) lol
There are distros out there which shouldn’t exist at all. There are way to many and I reckon it’s an ego problem.
Totalbiscuit reference?
If so, it was accidental. Goodness, I miss that guy.
@@TheLinuxCast same, such a shame that he had to pass so early
MX linux is amazing distro :)
